Chapter 21

Lelandi tried to block out the screams as silva and ritka fought each other nearher to her bed. Jake shook his head and leaned against the doorframe.

The doctor and Darien entered the room slowly, and Darien said, "Enough! How the hell did that happen? He gave off the impression of being a bit rattled, had a little less color on his face, and paid Lelandi a little too close attention. actually, her neck

She inhaled deeply, calming herself. Well, now that the boss man has arrived, there is calm.

"She struck me!" Ritka cried out.

Yes, I would have done it again if they hadn't restrained me. We can see, Darien assured. "I'm curious as to why," Lelandi struggled to speak, but the IV was once more attached to her arm, and she assumed that stronger medications were being injected into her system because she was unable to even focus on what was being said let alone keep her eyes open.

When I attempted to stop her from ripping out the IV, the b*tch punched me.

"You yanked her back so forcefully that pain filled her face as you clutched her hurting arm. She hit you for that reason, Silva reprimanded. "Don't you know what a good bedside manner is?"

Lelandi stumbled her words, "Sure."

What did you say to her? Darien asked Ritka without looking away from Lelandi.

Ritka made a shrug. "Nothing significant,"

"I simply gamble." Darien scowled at her as if she were the next person to get her head chopped off. "Dr, why doesn't she seem any better?"

"Slight fever. She must remain at least through tonight. Then, I'll check on her condition. Ritka was motioned to go by the doctor.

She gave Lelandi a stern look before storming out of the room. Jake, did Larissa ever mention anything to you? Darien \sasked.

Not even a word,

"Talked... about... you... and... me." At Jake, Lelandi attempted to scowl.

Darien turned his focus to his brother, whose ears started to get red. I'll speak with you later. Silva, did she say anything to you?

“Nope. Everything Ritka stated to her took place prior to my arrival. Darien, she has gorgeous glazed eyes. Do not believe she is truly on board.

What did she tell you, exactly? Darien extended his hand to touch Lelandi's, but he seemed to change his mind and put his hands in his pockets instead.

About... Green... Dept.

Darien had rounded eyes. "She told you about the Green Valley deputy sheriff?"

She was able to nod slowly.

“Shit.” He shook his head as he turned to face her neck. A snake, you say?

Lelandi prayed she would be able to restrain herself from speaking until the painkillers were removed. Otherwise, she would have to invent outrageous tales to add to whatever else she said.

She raised her finger to the wastepaper basket as she suddenly remembered her blasted donut. She said, "Donut."

She nodded off, and Darien motioned for Jake to follow. I'm curious as to what you said to Larissa.

Jake gave a head shake. She is a cougar. This one had the devil in her, unlike Lelandi who was too much of an angel.

To speak, they entered Doc's vacant office.

Jake slammed it. But I genuinely don't think she ought to visit us.

"For the time being, it's the safest location for her. But that's not the topic I want to cover. How did you address her?

Jake put his hands in his pockets while sporting a belligerent expression. I informed her that you had already experienced hell with her sister. You shouldn't also have to deal with her. Regarding bringing her home, you already know how rumors spread.

"I don't want to be her mate, but that's my concern, not yours. I'll handle her whatever I see fit. Understand?”

Jake said grudgingly, "Sure. "So what's the thing with this Green Valley deputy sheriff and snakes?"

Darien went through everything with them, including how their uncle was looking into the crime site where they had discovered Larissa. "Did you notice anything when we were with her, or smell anything?"

Jake gave a head shake. Sam had been shot, and I was focused on telling the rest of our group that we had discovered the woman.

Could the person who shot the shooter also be the one who choked her? Do you believe he could have arrived there in time given the distance?

"We're not sure when he split up with her."

Darien scowled while reflecting. "Maybe when we got close. He heard us speak.

Hence, two of them must exist.

“Great.” Darien combed his hair with his hands. Upon reflection, I can clearly remember smelling decomposing leaves rather than a lupus garou in human form. Instead, I only smelt the godawful perfume Larissa was wearing. Do you believe the offender wore human hunter spray to mask his scent?

"I'll have Uncle Sheridan visit the area to see if there were any rotting leaves nearby. Now that you mention it, I noticed the smell as well. Yet, do you recall the scarlet scent I caught?

"He couldn't have strangled her because he was in wolf shape." “True. What's up with Leidolf? Do you think we shouldn't get in touch with him?

"We don't know his true identity. Peter is investigating it. Was her luggage stolen, assuming she had one? That is what I want to know.

Jake regarded the mountain range outside the window, its summits covered in clouds that looked like fluffy whipped cream. “ When Larissa checked in, Mrs. Hastings claimed she was distracted since her grandkids were there, so she didn't notice if Larissa had a suitcase or not. Trevor questioned Mrs. Hastings about this. She paid cash and did—

What name did she use to register? Melissa Weber

Darien considered the name, his eyes becoming more tight. The name is recognisable. He scratched his chin as he recalled her earlier remarks. She repeatedly demanded to see Dr. Weber. He must be sincere. Darien cast a quick glance at the credentials and medical degrees that were posted across the wall and had been updated throughout the years to make Doc appear younger. I want you to look for any doctors with that name that are currently in practice in the state.

However Leidolf claims that she is a Portland native.

She was definitely from Colorado, according to Deputy Smith. Also, according to Larissa, Lelandi wrote her a note just before she passed away. Not in her purse, either. It's gone if it was in her bag. Lelandi was apparently being blackmailed by a lupus.

Jake muttered an expletive. A member of ours?

Whoever had been black-mailing Darien's mate was a dead lupus garou if it resulted in her demise. The letter was ambiguous.

When Larissa was drunk, did she tell you this?

She might not have been as lucid as she appeared to be. Heck, I have no idea.

Where else might the letter be, you ask? Jacob queried. "Maybe she buried it at the B&B or burned it in the fireplace. A teenage visitor claimed Larissa had been crying, and Mrs. Hastings mentioned that Larissa was clutching a letter in her lap in the loft. The letter must have been the cause.

The solution suddenly dawned on them. They both uttered "her garments" at the same time.
