Chapter 64 - Memories
Jae Hyun didn't know how he got there. A place that shifted between white and black, filled with loud, unrecognizable voices.
He wandered aimlessly through the place, the color of the place changing with every step he took and blinding his eyes with every change.
Until a golden door appeared, shining brightly, its light inviting him to enter. With no other options, he did so.
The energy was intense and cold, like an icy wind on a winter day. Jae Hyun opened his eyes and found himself in a forest. Children passed by him, and he smiled when he noticed that one of them looked very much like his own son, Kian.
At that moment, he knew he was experiencing Kallias' memories. However, the reason was still not clear enough.
He followed little Kallias, running among the children, his heterochromatic eyes observing the environment. And then, suddenly, he stopped.
“Mother,” the little boy shouted happily and ran to the Goddess. Jae thought it was super cute.
The Mother hadn't changed, she was exactly as Jae Hyun knew her, her dark blue hair flowing, her gray eyes and slightly bluish skin like the glow of the moon.
When she hugged her son and Jae Hyun noticed the happiness in his eyes, the omega understood the love Kallias felt for his mother and the anger he felt towards those who had disappointed her.
He continued to wander around the place until new memories were presented to him. The older Kallias was already a man and, well, he was already as handsome as his current Kallias.
Kallias always had a smile on his face, but Jae Hyun could see that smile slowly disappear when he noticed his mother's new creation.
Jae Hyun had seen that look before in his husband. The sparkle fading and being replaced by hatred. This made the anguish return to her chest again.
However, some good memories appeared as if to console him, and Jae Hyun smiled, happy that her Kallias still remembered the happy moments they had together.
He smiled as he watched them dancing together in the middle of the forest, while the sunlight touched their faces and the birds sang. Jae Hyun felt his lips tremble and small tears threaten to roll down his cheeks. He missed that, he missed his Kallias without hatred in his eyes.
However, that comfort could not last long. The memory changed to exactly what Jae Hyun did not want to witness. Kallias with all his hatred, mad to destroy the new wolves that Mother had created. With resentment, anger, and a thirst for justice against those children.
Tears streamed down Jae Hyun's face, he hated to see his beloved like this, consumed by such feelings. The memories of him trying to restrain Kallias appeared right in front of him and he felt useless for not being enough for his husband, not being enough to make him forget his revenge.
And in a flash, without him realizing it, the memory changed to the day he abandoned Kallias with their child in his womb. That day, his alpha fell to his knees, overcome with hatred and guilt. Jae Hyun could feel those feelings now, in that place. And he wondered if it wouldn't have been better to have stayed.
Fortunately, the memory faded, and he accompanied Kallias through the years he spent alone without him. And then came the day when that girl appeared. The one he secretly felt a slight envy for.
The girl, Ada, was about 17 years old, thin, and had big eyes, just like his daughter, Sera. They really looked alike. She was near the river, with her feet in the water. Her wolf controlled her, and the wolf was controlled by her hatred. An endless cycle that poor child had to go through.
Jae Hyun felt sorry for her, and apparently, so did Kallias. At that time, he was thinner and paler. Life had not been kind to him. Guilt consumed him along with hatred, and the absence of his family worsened those feelings.
And then he found that child in need of help, who also had a heavy heart. And so Kallias approached her.
First, he watched her for a few days until they started talking and Kallias comforted her. And he lost some of his hatred for the Goddess's new creation and saw Ada as a sister.
Jae Hyun couldn't help but sigh when he realized that there was nothing romantic between them. Kallias gave her a scarf and she smiled. It was the last time they saw each other until Ada's life changed.
Immersed in that moment, Jae Hyun didn't notice someone behind him.
“I told you we had nothing romantic. I would never love anyone but you.”
Jae Hyun was startled and jumped when he noticed he was being spied on. Kallias was behind him with a smile, a genuine one.
“You found me.” Jae Hyun smiled and looked back, noticing that Ada had disappeared. There were only the two of them at that moment, with no memory.
Kallias smiled and held his hand. ‘Come, my love. Let's go back.’
Without being prepared, Jae Hyun found himself submerged. He emerged, frightened to be in that place so unexpectedly.
“Breathe,” Kallias said calmly. He helped Jae Hyun out of the water.
Jae Hyun gasped, wet and shivering. Kallias pulled him out of the cave. “Come, dear. Let's warm ourselves in the sun.”
They sat on the ground, and Jae Hyun rested his head on his shoulder after removing his cloaks, leaving only his shirt and underwear.
“How did I get into your memories?“ He asked, looking deeply into his alpha's eyes.
”Akiner.“ Kallias replied, almost growling. ‘He's responsible for this.’ He said, caressing Jae Hyun's face. But don't worry. I punished him. He'll get what he deserves.” He said, kissing his omega's forehead.
Jae Hyun smiled and confirmed, “You cursed him!”
"Exactly. No one can touch you, Jae Hyun. I love you more than anything and I will protect you. Don't doubt that. I can't allow anything that will harm you. We may fight, but I know we can't hurt each other and I couldn't bear to lose you. Believe that, please.”
“I believe you,“ the omega replied, kissing Kallias.
”I believe you,” he smiled as he snuggled up to his alpha and fell asleep.
Kallias didn't want to lose that. He knew what he had to do, but perhaps the resentment in his chest made that decision more difficult than it already was.
