174. Luna vs. Alpha
Cora
I took Jax bike, John drove behind me. I felt like some kind of warrior, as I unmounted the motorcycle. I had dressed the part. Tight black pants. Thin black zip up jacket. It was what wore when I was in the war camp and when we made the last stand against The Circle. My white hair was tied high on my head flowing down my back. I even put on makeup. My eyes were smoky, and I had a deep red lip. John walked behind me in similar leathers. We were showing the seriousness of the moment.
I approached the field. Tanner was there with some idiot next to him. They both scowled at me. I looked past them and saw the rest of the pack standing and sitting to see what happened. I was surprised he had even let them come. He had to know I would win. He gave me a cruel smile. “So, my brother sends his whore to fight for him.” I didn’t change my expression. It remained neutral. He looked too confident something was off. Tanner yelled to those in attendance. “You all know I was supposed to fight my brother for territory today. But he sends a witch to fight for him. Is this someone we want near us. Cora Hemmings is a witch and our sworn enemy.”
John leaned in. “Think he is going to kill you by talking to death.” I laughed a little and Tanner spun around. I shrugged. “Waiting on you.” I spoke. “Fine Beta draw a square.” John leaned in. You must stay in the square during the fight. The fight ends when someone concedes, dies, or is given mercy.” I nodded and walked to where the large square was drawn into the dirt. I kicked off my boots making sure I was barefoot. Then Tanner’s Beta shouted. “Go”
Tanner lunged and I moved. I was not used to hand to hand. I never had to be this close to fighting. I was not equipped for it. Because just as I moved, I was hit hard. My body felt raw. My face was hit hard, and I fell into the dirt. No wonder Jax didn’t want me to fight. I could do magic and not hand to hand. Get ahold of yourself. Tanner hit the side of my head, and I fell hard into the ground. I went to get up, but my leg felt pressure and I heard it break. Tanner was breaking my leg by standing on the bone. Dig deep I told myself. That is, it dig deep. In a split second I shoved my hand into the dirt below me Channeling the earth. To plummet downward. Then we were falling down in the hole. The square still intake. I had a second to plan.
Shoot the square back up, I told the earth, and we began to rise. It was like an open topped elevator as we rose the dirt passing us by, I looked at the dirt and saw roots far in the distance. I commanded them to come to me. Be my leg and hold me up when we breakthrough the top. I told the roots. They listened. As we went back to the top of the soil the roots propped me up and protected my broken led. My hand outstretched and rocks that had been just below the top surface of the ground rose to the ground. I looked at Tanner.
“Do you concede?” He gave me an amused smile like he knew something I didn’t. John shouted. “Cora to your left, bullet.” I turned my attention to the trees and my rocks skyrocketed and I heard a thud. I could see a body fall down. Then I was thrown back. Roots leave my leg and bind him by the neck. They listened and I wobbled only having one leg to support myself. I looked down at Tanner who was now in the center of the square being held down by his neck. “Do you concede?” He shouted and thrashed. “No I don’t concede. Kill me. Kill me show them what a good witch you are.” I tightened the roots, but instead of killing him I silenced him.
I looked out to the crowd who was silent. “I did not kill Tanner. I do not plan to. I did however bind him and his mouth so he would not talk while I addressed you. You all know I am Alpha Jax Hemmings Mate. You have all called me at one time the Witch Luna. I want to be your Luna again. Jax cares about each and every one of you. He and I want to start something new. We don’t want witches and werewolves to fight anymore. There is no reason for it. We want both species to live in harmony. I know some of you may remember that before the war with The Circle, I helped you. I moved things for you, cooked for you, helped with anything I could, and I used magic to do it.”
“All I want is for you guys to give me and other witches a chance. None of whom have drank blood. I know a lot of you hate me for what I did to protect you. I know you are repulsed by it but think about this. Look at your children.” None of their eyes looked. “Fucking look.” I yelled. Then I raised all those little rocks again. Holding them in the air with magic I shot them at the children while their parents looked at them. There were screams. Then I stopped the stones right in front of the children's face and had them fall to the ground.
“Now if I can do that, what do you think The Circle would have done to you? You may condemn me for what I did, but you and your children would either be dead or locked up waiting to be drained alive right now if it wasn’t for me. If you think Tanner can protect you, you are wrong he can’t even win against me when he cheats.” I spoke. “Now the choice is yours, safety or stupidity.” I looked at them. “No one will release Tanner. He will be let go when I say so. If you do, I will know.” I turned and walked back to Jax’s motorcycle. I felt like a complete bad ass.
