Chapter 484 Who Is There
Chapter 484 Who Is There
"Help me, please! I can't let Ms. Bailey get in trouble!"
The group of maids hesitated as they approached, exchanging glances. "What's she staring at?"
"It looks like she's fixated on the corridor... Is there someone there?"
"No way, who'd be lurking around at this hour?"
"Yeah, she's always a bit quirky, chatting with empty spaces is her thing. You think she saw someone? With Kaida's failing eyesight, what could she possibly see in this darkness?" A maid chimed in uncertainly, her voice trembling. "But Kaida seemed so sure she saw something, how else could she be so spot on... Maybe she's dabbling in witchcraft on the sly and summoned a demon to the Ramirez Villa!"
"Ridiculous! She's not capable of that!"
The head maid, growing impatient, cut in.
She pointed at the person holding the oil lamp on the side. "You, go check the corridor. And you, help me tie up Kaida. Someone grab a cloth, are you all deaf? Don't you want to stay alive?"
Except for the maid singled out, nearly everyone eagerly assisted the stout maid in restraining Kaida, even muffling her still noisy protests.
But Ava, at that moment, couldn't care less about Kaida's predicament. The corridor she was in was fairly empty, with the oil lamp above preventing total darkness.
Ava could vaguely make out that there was no hiding spot in the corridor at the moment. In other words, if the maid with the lamp entered, her presence would be immediately detected.
Darn, this was frustrating!
Ava bit her lip, attempting to press herself tightly against the wall, but it was futile under the light!
If that maid walked in, it would all be over!
As the light from the kitchen door drew nearer, Ava's heart leaped into her throat.
'Help! Whoever you are, please come and rescue me!' She thought to herself.
Just then, Ava keenly picked up some strange noises. She quickly realized they were rats in the corridor!
Ava seldom encountered rats, but Chase and Aiden had mentioned that rats were wicked creatures because they often carried diseases.
In some dark rituals, rats were even used to invoke evil.
Considering the maid's mention of Sharon possibly dabbling in witchcraft to summon demons, although Ava knew it was all a ruse to mislead the gullible, she couldn't dwell on that at this crucial moment.
Ava took a deep breath and lightly hurled the stone she held towards the direction of the rat noises. Despite the darkness obscuring her vision, Ava had practiced blind attacks before, so estimating the rat's position by sound wasn't too challenging for her.
Sure enough, after the rat was struck, it emitted a shrill cry and, thanks to Ava's clever angle of attack, the rat misjudged the direction and scurried straight towards the light.
The maid outside initially paid little heed to the noise, but when several plump rats scurried past her feet and made a beeline for the kitchen, she abandoned the idea of checking the corridor. With a pale face, she turned and screamed as she dashed into the kitchen.
"Rats! Rats are everywhere!"
"Damn it, cursed rats! Kaida must've summoned these vile creatures just now. She's probably dabbling in witchcraft behind our backs!"
"Help! Someone, get rid of these rats!"
"Oh no, keep quiet, do you want to alert everyone in the kitchen and put them in danger?"
Seizing the opportunity amidst the commotion in the kitchen, Ava swiftly slipped out of the corridor.
As for visiting Kaida, Ava swallowed nervously and decided to postpone it for now— at least until she and Michael could confirm Kaida's condition.
If a situation like tonight's were to occur again, she wasn't sure she'd be as fortunate to have rats come to her aid.
Initially, Ava had intended to head from there to the tower where Shawn was.
Michael had informed her that the current Shawn at the Ramirez Villa was an imposter. This brought to mind the first time she encountered Shawn on the tower, where his eyes held a peculiar fondness and longing, yet his face was entirely unfamiliar.
It felt like someone who had always watched over her had changed faces, meeting again at an unexpected moment.
Such thoughts were perilous, especially since Ava couldn't pinpoint anyone familiar who could carry out such a scheme.
The Davis family?
That was out of the question. When facing Shawn, Ava sensed no familiarity, not even close to what she felt with Michael. Hence, the person posing as Shawn couldn't be from the Davis family.
Ava had planned to sneak into the Ramirez Villa that night and inquire about this, but now it seemed improbable, particularly since the maids mentioned that "that person" had beaten Shawn severely and even requested Michael's aid.
Hence, the identity of the individual the maids referred to was apparent.
Hestia had only just arrived at the Ramirez Villa that day, and Michael had mentioned that no women from the Ramirez family currently resided there. Therefore, the one who had whipped Shawn was the enigmatic masked woman.
Regarding the origin, the maids had noted that this masked woman hailed from the western part of the Soth Empire.
The west...
Wasn't that where the Jennings family was situated?
Ava's mind suddenly sparked with ideas.
While there were numerous nobles in the west, the Jennings family held the title of marquis. They likely possessed a better understanding of the nobility and powers in the region.
If she could sketch the mysterious emblem and present it to Jennings or Patricia, she might uncover more information.
