Chapter 72 Alpha Jacquet's pov
Chapter 72 Alpha Jacquet's pov
I have never been rejected my entire life. Selena has not only rejected me in front of the whole pack but she has made a mockery of my feelings.
“ Did she not feel the same way all this time?” I said angrily pacing back and forth.
Mara raised her eyebrows slowly to meet mine. I could tell that she was hiding something beneath those emerald eyes.
“ If you know something then now is the best time to spill it.” I said with a sharp gaze.
“ You really do love her don't you?” She said slowly getting up to her feet. “ I have never seen you bother so much about anything.”
“ Of course I love her. Ever since she set foot into this pack, I had always known she was the one but it looks like something is holding her back.”
“ Or someone.” Mara said back immediately.
“ What do I do? I love her, Mara.” I said walking closer to my sister.
The room felt silent.
“ I love Lucian too. My heart beats for him but then, he won't return my feelings.”
I let out a low smile. We both were in a delima of love.
“ What do you think we should do?” I finally asked, my eyebrows arched slightly.
Mara looked away after my question, her fingers twisting together like she was weighing every word before letting it out.
There was a brief silence between the both of us.
“What do you want to do?” she finally asked.
I was not sure what to do but I know my heart beats loudly when I see her.
“I want her,” I said plainly. “But I don’t want a forced mate. I don’t want a woman who looks at me and wishes she was somewhere else.”
Mara sighed. “Then you already know the answer.”
I clenched my jaw. “Knowing and accepting are two different things.”
She walked closer and placed a hand on my arm. “Jacquet, Sienna didn’t just reject you out of fear. There is a bond there. A deep one. I felt it the moment she ran.”
My chest tightened. “With Lucian.”
She nodded.
“Arent they brother as sister?” I asked quietly.
Mara shook her head immediately. “I am not sure they are telling us everything . Whatever they have is real. That much is obvious.”
That did not comfort me at all.
“So what am I supposed to do?” I asked. “Let him walk into my pack, lie to my face, and take the woman I love?”
“You are an Alpha,” she replied calmly. “You are supposed to see beyond emotion.”
I laughed without humor.
“Then why does this feel like my chest is being torn apart?”
She was quiet for a moment before speaking again. “Because you are not just an Alpha tonight. You are a man who got his heart bruised.”
I sat down heavily on the chair behind me. My hands rubbed my face as I tried to think clearly.
“If Lucian truly is who I suspect he is,” I said slowly, “then his presence alone puts Ravenclaw at risk.”
“And yet you allowed him,” Mara said.
“Yes,” I admitted. “Because I saw strength in him. Leadership. Something familiar.”
She studied me. “You see yourself in him.”
I did not deny it.
“So what if the truth comes out?” I asked. “What if he really is an Alpha with enemies hunting him?”
Mara crossed her arms. “Then you decide what kind of Alpha you want to be.”
Her words got stuck in my head.
An Alpha who acts out of jealousy… or one who acts out of honor.
“I don’t trust him,” I said. “But I don’t think he is evil either.”
“That makes this harder,” she replied.
“Yes.”
I stood up again and walked toward the window, staring out into the night. The pack grounds were quieter now. The celebration had lost its spark.
“They will talk,” I said. “The pack already senses something is wrong.”
“They always do,” Mara said softly.
I turned to her. “Keep an eye on them. Both of them.”
Her eyebrows lifted. “You want me to spy on them?”
“I want you to observe,” I corrected. “I need to know if Lucian plans to hurt this pack or use it.”
“And Sienna?”
My voice softened without meaning to. “Protect her. No matter what happens.”
Mara nodded slowly. “I can do that.”
I exhaled. “Good.”
She hesitated, then spoke again. “And what about you?”
“What about me?”
She smiled sadly. “What are you going to do with your heart?”
I had no answer for that.
The truth was that it hurt to see her reject me like that. Mara looked at me and sighs.
“ we could actually make this work out in our favour. We could find out where Lucian hails from. Find out who he truly is and have him given to his enemies. Or do we give him our condition? If he doesn't want to comply with it then we have him sent out of the pack.”
I arched my brows. “ And are you going to be okay with it considering how you feel about him?”
The room went silent yet again.
“ Make Sienna yours and I will try to gain Lucian's love. It is going to be a win-win for both of us. We can simply turn the tides in our favour if they refuse to give us what we want. They are in our pack after all.”
Those were her last words before she walked out.
I clenched my fist as I stared out of the window into the dark. Sienna had made me feel small tonight.
Tomorrow was going to be a long day, a day of questions. She is going to tell me why she refused my gesture after I had provided for her and Lucian.
Tomorrow was going to be all about choice. She was either going to choose Lucian in front of the whole pack or she was going to choose me, the Alpha who saved her and protected her when she needed protection.
I shut my eyes in anticipation of what tomorrow was going to bring.
