Chapter 56 Sienna's pov

Chapter 56 Sienna's pov
Juliet looked at me, and I could tell her what she was going to say.

“She did it. Martha.” "Juliet," she said, gulping down the thick phlegm at the back of her throat.

Elder Zack got up again. The same way he did when my mother was accused. “Your words are the same. It was like you had said some months ago.”

He walked forward towards her. “You don't need to be scared of anyone. You are free to say what actually happened without being penalized.”

Juliet looked up, but I could read her gaze. It went to Elder Vincent and back to Olivere. I don't know what they were holding over her, but I guess that she wants to break free. I remembered that night I fell out the window. Juliet had also come for the vial.

The only question I could ask myself was why?

“ Martha poisoned the Alpha because Stephan humiliated her daughter. I heard her saying that she was going to make him pay and then run away from the pack.” Juliet said with her gaze fixed on Elder Zack.

“Liar!” I shouted with anger burning my throat. “Then why don't you tell this gathering what you were doing the night I died? The next thing you did was throw me out of the window.”

The room went dead silent yet again.

Each elder was murmuring all at once. “Did you just say she pushed you out of the window?” Stephan's gaze locked on her the moment he heard that word.

I was not sure if he was angry or thirlled to hear the fact that I rose up from the dead.

“ Care to tell the court why I was thrown out?” I asked again.

“ Why don't you tell us what you know and we might decide on your fate.” Alpha Efron said from his seat.

“She was snooping around. I don't know why I went into Olivere's room but I met Sienna stealing some of her things. I wanted to grab them from her, but she refused. We tussled, and then she fell out through the window.” Juliet said finally.

“ Lair! She saw it. She knew what I took. She also wanted the same thing.” I said in anger.

“ And what is that thing , Sienna?” Olivere said, walking out of her space. “ You accused my father of taking you hostage. Then, you accused me of poisoning the Late Alpha which I never did. What else are you going to accuse me of?”

I looked at Lucian, maybe hoping he could say a word. Tell them what he has seen, but he simply shakes his head slightly. I know what he was telling me to do.

I looked towards the Alpha seat. My gaze landing on him. “ She poisoned your father, Stephan. I swear it!”

Stephan said nothing. He simply looked at me for quite a while. I don't know why but I could see his gaze was filled with regret, anger and maybe hatred.

“ I thought you had come to terms with everything your mother did.” he said slowly getting up to his feet. “ Your filthy mother laid her hands upon my father and yet she allowed you to live. She gave you a space in her maids quarter. How dare you lie against her!”

“Why would I lie when the truth is so glaring?” I finished, my voice shaking but loud enough to echo in the hall.

My chest rose and fell fast. My hands were cold, yet my blood burned. I took a step forward before I could stop myself.

“You think I enjoy standing here?” I asked. “You think I enjoy being called a liar, a thief, the daughter of a criminal?” My eyes burned as I looked around the hall. “I died once already. I felt my bones break. I felt the ground crush my lungs. If lies were easy, I would have stayed dead.”

A soft gasp ran through the elders.

Stephan’s jaw tightened. “Enough,” he said. “Your emotions do not change facts.”

“Facts?” I laughed bitterly. “Then let us talk about facts.”

I turned to Juliet again. “You said I was stealing from Olivere. Tell them what it was. Say it.”

Juliet’s lips trembled. She opened her mouth, then closed it again. Her eyes flicked to Elder Vincent.

“Say it,” I pushed. “If I was stealing clothes or jewels, say it.”

Silence.

Elder Zack frowned. “Juliet,” he said gently, “answer the question.”

“I don't know what it was, but you were stealing a priceless jewel.” She said again. “I tried to stop you, but you tried to fight me back.”

“Maybe she wanted to run away.” An elder said from his seat.

“I would think of running too if I was branded the daughter of a traitor.” Another said,

My head went down in shame. I know I had lost again. But then, I remembered the old man. My mother's friend. The same man who had told me what I carried was poison.

“The poison is rare.” I shouted.

Stephan, who had just turned back, looked at me. He let out a smile. “Are we still on this? Rare? Is there a poison that I don’t know of in this pack?”

“No. There are poisons that can only be gotten outside these walls. That is how he was killed.” I said with tears. “I showed this vial to a man outside the walls. Why don't you send for him? I am sure he will shed more light on this.”

Elder Zack looked at me. “You mean you showed this to someone else? Someone who can vouch for you?”

I nodded. My eyes are blurry.

“Yes. I took this vial to see him. He is a man known for making portions. He is a friend of my mother. His hut is deep in the woods. I am sure he is going to be more than willing to come with you to tell the truth.”

Some of the elders nodded.

All eyes shifted back to Stephan to give the final call. But instead, he walked towards them, his robe sweeping the dusty floor.

“If this is all a lie, if I find out that you have been lying to me, you won't only be paying for your crimes, but you will be branded a traitor for the rest of your life. I am going to make sure of it.” he said with a cold and icy tone.
