Chapter 70 Mission
Evan kept her heart calm because one missed beat and Simon would find her suspicious.
“Hmm, that’s good,” she replied. But deep down she felt bad. A strong urge to apologize waved at her, but she tried eating it in. Isabella, on the other hand, felt kind of bad. She never expected her words would result in this.
“It’s a good thing that you’re now normal,” Zeke complimented. He felt utterly pleased with the new Simon. Otherwise, Simon would start making him talk. Zeke never loved talking too much as that hurt his mouth… and of course, the people that triggered him to speak were Simon and Lord Raphael. Seeing that he was able to shut Simon up was truly a blessing.
One thing everyone didn’t know was that he was once again mourning Lena’s death and was ready to avenge her. Last night he had already planned how he would kill Isabella, leaving no trace for anyone to find out. And at this point, his greatest obstacle was Evan. He also thought of killing Evan, but it was almost impossible to kill two powerful people without notifying anyone—especially Zeke.
He didn’t even get the chance to sleep soundly last night, busy plotting how he would eliminate his enemy.
‘If Zeke gets in my way, I won’t hold back!’ Simon thought to himself. Zeke was more like a brother to him, but Lena… she brought air to his world.
Lord Raphael kept chatting with Evan, and for a flicker of a moment, something sparked inside her.
“Lord Raphael… I… don’t feel too well,” she suddenly said, though it was subconsciously.
A worried Zeke asked, “Are you sick?”
“Ridiculous… I’m fine. I’m just getting some early morning sickness, and I really don’t feel like talking anymore,” Evan explained. As soon as Isabella heard this weird lie, she spared a glance at Evan. Seeing Evan giving her the doggy eyes, Isabella became alert. Evan had a special ability of recognizing danger. Her eyes glowed silver, but she hid it by shutting them.
‘Oh no, something’s wrong,’ she thought. Evan was never wrong. It was true they were going to the wild forest filled with black witches, but… no normal witch would dare approach them—only rogue witches could attack. And even if a witch was about to attack, why would it be so dangerous as to alert Evan?
“Master Ezekiel… can I put my head on your lap to relax?” Evan asked slyly, as a snake in the green grass as she was.
“Of course… put it down.” Hearing this, Evan immediately did that. She wanted to communicate with Isabella inwardly. And because Isabella was a witch and Evan wasn’t, it took Evan lots of effort to communicate… while for Isabella it was something normal.
“Evan… can you hear my thoughts now?” Isabella asked.
“Yes. I can hear you. And I think I sense danger.”
“What type of danger? Can you at least trace it?”
“That’s what I’m trying to do. But I sense it, and it feels close… really close.” Evan didn’t know why it felt so close, and then something came into her mind. She looked around them. First was Lord Raphael, then Ezekiel, but they seemed perfectly fine.
Then she shifted her gaze to Simon.
‘Hmph… he is quite quiet. For a psycho like him who never gets angry, how can he possibly get angry all of a sudden?’ she wondered in her thoughts.
“Isabella, I found it but I’m not sure. For the main time, be careful and cautious of Simon. You need to control your heartbeat because that’s the first step,” Evan warned, still talking through inner thoughts with Isabella.
“Controlling heartbeat is much harder than facial expression. To be honest, I’m sick of it. Meanwhile, I can control it all with power.” Saying this, she closed her eyes and chanted something without opening her mouth.
“Isabella, what did you do?” Evan asked.
“Nothing, dear… from now onwards, no vampire will be able to tell our heartbeats. The only thing they’ll know is that it’s beating at one pace.”
“Truly a genius… I’m truly blessed to have you, Your Majesty.”
“Crazy, crazy Evan.”
Soon they arrived at their destination. Lord Raphael stuck to Zeke while he told Simon to watch Isabella and Evan for him.
“Where are you guys going? It’s pretty lonely out here,” Evan complained. Glancing at the wild, she saw an apple tree, but its fruit seemed shriveled as if it was highly forbidden. She ran right to it and grabbed a fruit.
“Evan, that’s not eatable,” Zeke warned.
“Pfft, come on. You guys go ahead. I’ll stay here obediently with Isabella, right?” She turned to Isabella, who immediately nodded with a smile.
“By the way, Simon, aren’t you going with Lord Raphael and Zeke?” the blabbering Evan asked.
“We are on a private mission, and I need to keep an eye on you,” Simon said firmly.
His tone was kind of off today, making Evan 100% certain that he wanted to kill them.
‘But why? Why would he want that?’
After Zeke and Lord Raphael left to take care of some stuff, Isabella and Evan told Simon that they wanted to go out and search for something—and as expected, he never let them leave.
“Simon, are you crazy? Don’t you know that without us you can’t find how the poisonous potion is made?” Evan snapped. She really wanted to grab his neck and strangle him at the moment.
‘Looks like he really doesn’t know who I am!’
Seeing her anger, Simon bared his fangs and his eyes glowed red. His nails elongated.
“Poisonous potion? What poisonous potion? I don’t care about that. At least ask your friend why she killed one of my people!” Simon roared. Looking at him, Evan knew he wasn’t easy. She could already see through him and knew he possessed powerful abilities and was well skilled. After all, this was Zeke’s friend.
Isabella immediately hid behind Evan.
“What are you talking about?” she asked, puzzled.
“Evan, I have no intentions of hurting you. All I’m asking is that you let me kill her in peace.”
“Never!! She’s my queen, my friend, my family. Better give up the idea of killing her because, unfortunately, it won’t happen.”
