Chapter 55 The killer
Evan's face flushed crimson. She lost interest in the book and looked at the man. His face screamed, “Serious!” Her jaw dropped open. She tried to find the correct word to say but found none.
“Wha…”she tried to speak. The words caught in her throat.
“You heard me right.I want to marry you,” he repeated.
This didn't even sound like a proposal. It was more like a command, not even asking for her consent.
Evan shook her head, making sure this wasn't a dream of the night.
“Are you sure?”Her voice was low and her voice grew weak. The great Duke of Greenwave Land nodded his head. What was more stunning was that he nodded with a bright smile on his face.
‘This is nothing like Ezekiel,’Evan thought. This was the moment her mind remembered the bunny.
‘How is he doing?I hope he is well,’ she thought.
Turning back to Ezekiel, she saw him still staring at her, smiling. A smile that didn't suit him at all.
“Hmm,” she hummed.
“Aren't you happy?”he asked her. She felt like laughing at his question. She wondered what kind of question that was. If she was happy? Of course not!!!! Why should she be happy when she was in disguise?
“I am not happy.”Of course, the usual Evan spoke her mind. Her words reminded Ezekiel about Evan. She was always speaking what was on her mind.
Ezekiel looked down, disappointed at her words. At this moment he didn't care. He wanted to do what was on his mind whether she was happy or not.
“From now on you're mine.Never leave this mansion without my permission. Understood?” Seeing the girl nod, he walked out of the study room, leaving Evan exploring her sweet book.
…
Evening arrived and Evan just lay in her room, lonely and sad. She wondered what had gotten into Ezekiel. She didn't pity herself; instead, she pitied him. If she wanted to escape, she would do it. It was a piece of cake for her.
She had gone to Ezekiel's room, but he wasn't in. It was already getting dark outside. Earlier she received a letter from someone. It was from one of the pureblooded vampire families, inviting Ezekiel for a tea party. Evan received it while he wasn't in and was hoping for him to come back so she could tell him.
Sadly,no updates so far. Ezekiel was nowhere to be found and it seemed like the clouds were angrier today.
She started getting worried. She tried to convince herself that he was okay and just went out, probably because he was angry at her words earlier.
Evan didn't sleep and decided to wait until midnight.Suddenly she started feeling an urge to go to the back of the mansion where she had buried the council man. Something told her he was no longer there. Unknowingly to her, they were busy calling her spirit. She tried to fight the urge. It was raining outside. The more time passed by, the more the urge grew stronger.
She heard the rain halting little by little,so she decided to go. Unknowingly to her, she had transformed into her true form. She didn't notice her long hair quickly.
Ella tried reaching out to her to inform her that the spell had already expired today. Sadly, Evan was no longer in her room.
She went downstairs, taking a candlelight along with her. The outside of the mansion was dimly lit.
After passing the second mansion, she felt the urge grow stronger. The pendant on her neck shook, trying to pull her back. She didn't listen to it and just went deeper.
Reaching where she buried the man,she saw that the hole was empty. Her mouth dropped open.
“Who are you?” she heard a voice behind her and a greater light formed, making her drop the candlelight. Stunning around, she saw Lord Raphael and then, looking up, she saw Ezekiel. Both his hands were raised and two balls of fire were on them. She was dumbfounded. Her eyes sunk in. Her heart beat fast. Ezekiel didn't know what was happening. He saw her coming. She was Anna first. How come she changed into Evan? He was now fully convinced this was a black witch fooling them.
It was so confusing. So much confusion. The body he buried was completely ruined. He couldn't even see the person's face properly. It was crushed and ruined.
Seeing Evan's face was…
A long tear rolled down from her eyes.Realizing what was happening—they were summoning her spirit here—she decided she should confess.
“I-I killed him.”
Ezekiel swallowed hard.Evan was a little surprised why they were all staring at her with that expression.
Putting her hand on her face as tears streamed down her cheeks, she realized something. Her hair. It was long. That spell could only last for a week. Her heart climbed up. She started rubbing her hair, touching it, seeing that it was long.
“Oh no!Oh no!” she said. The Duke and the Lord stared at her, thinking that she was a black witch who was deceiving them.
“Who are you?” Ezekiel's eyes carried no emotion.
“Who are you!”This time he yelled, making Evan shiver. The only reason why he wasn't striking yet was because her heart was still beating like a human's. But it could still be a black witch because most black witches could also disguise their heartbeat, though it was extremely rare.
“I…” she started.
“You're not Anna, are you?” Lord Raphael asked. Evan shook her head. Ezekiel's heart immediately shattered.
“So you're a black witch, huh?” Ezekiel asked, but no reply came from Evan.
“Who are you?” Lord Raphael asked. This time his face grew angrier.
“Start explaining yourself.I have no time to spend,” he added.
“I-I'm.Actually, that girl I call Ella…”
“What happened to her?”Ezekiel asked, losing his patience.
“She…she is the Witch Queen and placed me in disguise.”
“What Witch Queen?White or black?” Ezekiel asked.
“White,of course, white,” Evan replied as tears streamed down her cheeks.
“So the witch disguised you as Evan, huh?” Ezekiel shot his question, trying to get to the bottom of this.
“No,of course not. I, I am Evan. She disguised me as Anna. I don't know the other Evan that is dead that you speak of,” she said, defending herself.
