Chapter 27 Isabella
…
The son finally got to shine on the land of Greenwave. This rainy land was always wet and muddy.
Evan used one hand to hold her dress, preventing it from touching the ground. She was breathing heavily. It was now noon and she hadn't eaten anything. No food, no water. She was so thirsty. Her throat felt dry. Her heart pounding and her belly grumbling. She felt as if she would pass out at any moment.
There were only trees she could find and she didn't even know where she was at the moment. There were only trees and more trees looming in the distance.
She sighed awkwardly. She placed one of her hands on her waist. Her eyes were dull. Her lips were cracked, on the verge of bleeding.
“Oh, please,” she mumbled to herself. She could tell the sun would soon set. She needed to find a safe place to stay and she knew Ezekiel had already sent his men to look for her. She had no money with her, neither did she have food. She had been running for hours without stopping. Seeing that this place was scanty of people, she decided to walk. Fear stirred within her. She couldn't be found, else she would be executed. That was not how she wanted her life to end. She never wanted to die in embarrassment or shame.
She wanted to die as a hero, not as a villain. Like every woman, Evan wanted to love someone one day. She wanted to be happily married to a man who would respect her, not to die like a hen slaughtered in public.
She wanted to hold her child in her arms.Even if she was young, she had her dreams right in her heart.
After walking a couple of hours,it was almost dark. The sun was setting and the clouds were dull. The rain was about to pour again and thanks to her stubbornness, this was a suitable place where black witches could attack easily. She started hearing voices. A glimpse of hope arose within her. Her legs quickened their pace.
She knew she was almost there as the voices became more audible. Suddenly, they vanished into the clouds. It was as silent as a graveyard. Evan was mystified by that. She saw a U-branch leading to another part of the road. She immediately went that way and it seemed like people were actually living here. Houses loomed in the distance. If she wasn't wrong, this was actually a village.
She hurried deeper into the little village. This was her last hope of survival. The environment had houses but no people. The doors were locked with no one in sight.
“What?”She was slightly taken aback after running and hoping she would survive. And soon, a long rope was thrown from out of nowhere. It immediately hung around her neck, tightening its grip on her immediately. She fell to the ground, groaning.
“Agh!”Words could barely leave her lips. Her breath caught in her throat.
Four villagers came into view. One gripped her both hands while others lifted her body. Evan was too weak to fight back. They carried her into one of the houses. Placing her down, they tied her body from head to toe, binding it to a chair that seemed unbreakable. They poured a watery liquid on her body. The liquid carried a shocking scent. Evan didn't know what kind of water smelled that bad.
Her brain was too weak to process anything. She instantly passed out.
…
Evan woke up feeling a chilling pain all over her body. The pain couldn't be ignored. It was electrifying. She saw herself still bound to the chair. But there was something wrong. Both her legs had a big cut. It was as if someone had used a knife to slice her legs line by line.
The rope on her neck was loosened, but the pain in her legs was far worse than that of her neck. She coughed out pure blood.
“Please! Please,” she begged no one in particular. There was no one in the room apart from her. As time passed, the door swung open. A girl came in, opening the door wider for another person to enter.
“My queen, here she is. The black witch we caught,” the girl informed the queen who came into the room.
The queen had long silver hair, silver eyes, and she was also wearing a long silver dress. Her expression was calm. Everything about her looked shiny like silver. She looked more like a goddess.
The silver goddess was none other than Isabella.
“Evan,”she exclaimed with eyes open. “What are you doing here? And you, loose her quickly!” She instructed the girl beside her. The girl quickly obeyed her master's command and did as she was told. She took out a knife from her dress pocket and started cutting through the ropes Evan was bound to. As the ropes let loose, Evan's stomach growled loudly, screaming for food.
“Isabella,”she called out, her voice weak and low. Her eyes dull. Her lips cracked.
“Please help me,I need water and food,” Evan immediately said, making Isabella chuckle.
“Don't worry, you'll survive, dear. Rose, please get her water.” The girl poured water for Evan, who immediately accepted it.
She drank all the water from the glass cup and handed it back to the girl, who placed it on the wooden table.
Evan breathed gently.Isabella stretched out her hand and, without wasting much time, Evan took it. She helped the girl up, leading her to one of the chairs. Evan sat down slowly. Her legs were on fire, burning like volcanic lava.
“How do you feel?” came Isabella's question.
“I feel horrible.I am hungry,” she confessed. Evan never hides what's on her mind.
“Don't worry, dear. Food is on its way,” said Isabella, taking a seat on one of the chairs also.
“Rose, please go get some fruits,” she instructed. The girl bowed and left.
“What happened to you?Why are you like this?”
“I am running away from death.”
