Chapter 24 A plan to escape 1
‘Huh? Execution?’ The words sent chills down her spine. There is a saying: dying is one thing, but knowing you're going to die at a specific time is another. The scariest part is knowing you will die like a toy in a play. Getting sick is one thing, while in the same vein, dying is the end of a man's life. There is no coming back. Evan strongly believed there was nothing like reincarnation. To her, it was all a story made up by someone insensible.
“Yes, Master Ezekiel,” the man agreed, nodding his head in acknowledgment. He got out of the cell, and Evan couldn't hear what they were saying. Little by little, they disappeared from view. She inhaled deeply. Looking at the bars, they were made of iron, dirty and bloodstained.
They looked so ugly.Anyone who dared or tried to escape would meet an immediate death. The bars of the cell were capable of ending a normal vampire's life, let alone a lowly human.
Evan told herself this place was well guarded.Security was tight. Only a skilled supernatural being could escape this death. In fact, even a Legend’s mind would never drift to the thought of escaping from this place. This was hell itself. But the moment Evan's eyes landed on the bar wires, her mind screamed at her: ‘Try escaping. There is nothing impossible.’ Over the years, she had learnt a lot from Mrs. Caviar, who was always telling her there is nothing impossible.
THE PAST
Little Evan stared at a book she was holding in her little hands. She smiled as she looked at the beautiful drawings in it.
“So beautiful.I wish I could read what is written,” she mumbled to herself. Her hair was elegantly let down, revealing her beautiful features. She was about nine or ten years old at that time.
“Dear, you can. Nothing is impossible. Some people think there isn't a way out, but trust me, there is always a way. Nothing is impossible. You never know until you try,” Mrs. Caviar explained as she smiled at little Evan.
“Hmm, what if you try and then fail? Isn't that embarrassing?” Evan threw out her second question. Mrs. Caviar smiled warmly at the curious child. She always had an answer for the girl's questions.
“Evan, dear, just because you messed up doesn't mean you've failed. You can always try again.” With that, she hugged Evan in her arms.
THE PRESENT
Remembering that wonderful past was more than enough to put a wide smile on her pretty face. She was overjoyed. Imagine escaping this place without being caught. She would be free. She knew they were going to come for her, but who cares? One thing was certain: if Evan left this place alive, there would be no way on earth that anyone was gonna find her.
Breathing slowly, she tried standing up only to notice an iron belt tied around her waist. It was massive and also connected to the iron bars of the cell.
The iron belt occupied almost the whole space from her belly all the way to her chest, nearly covering her breasts.
“Tsk,tsk!” she gritted her teeth, annoyed by this. She had to try escaping before morning. And it was still morning. ‘Wait? Will I be using a whole day to escape? It's worth it, though.’
The first thing was to figure out how she could get the iron belt off her body. Hopefully, her both hands were not bound together with the chains on her belly. This meant the heavens were still on her side. Her hands were bound behind her with a rope, and she could feel it was a pretty weak one she could get rid of effortlessly.
However, looking around, Evan found no sharp objects she could easily use to cut the weak rope. Her eyes darted around the cell. According to rumours, this place had invisible irons that could kill if caution was not highly taken, and Evan already knew safety first.
Her eyes suddenly brushed on something, but she immediately took her eyes off it. The object wasn't too visible as it was covered in dirt. The reason she took her eyes off it was because of a councilman who was headed in her direction. Evan pretended to focus all her attention on the man and was even forced to shed fake tears.
“You deserve death,”the man declared. He had worked for the council ever since his young days. One of Evan's envies was that she was with the duke, whom she had a crush on. But sadly, Ezekiel wasn't interested in men.
According to the report of Lord Raphael, he had never been seen with a woman and was 100% a virgin. Lord Raphael himself thought he might be gay until he saw his interest in the teenage girl.
Evan stared at the man,her eyes pleading and watery.
“I did nothing wrong,”the words came out of her mouth, and so did the tears, making the drama as real as the drama queen she was.
“We will actually confirm if you're a black witch once you're thrown into the fire.”
“Wouldn't I be dead by then? What's the point? It'll be too late. Help me out.” Her last words came out almost too pleading. A soft heart would believe that call. But councilmen were brought up with hardened hearts.
“Enjoy.Don't even think of escaping; you'll die before getting out. Have fun, and see you in hell.” With that, he turned and started walking away.
“I won't go to hell!I'm not a sinner, so you won't see me there!” She yelled her last words because he was almost out of sight.
As soon as he was gone, she smiled sarcastically. If only he knew she had ulterior motives. Back to work, she crawled slowly, taking the object from behind with her palms. It was a blade-like object and very perfect for the job. As soon as her hand got hold of it, she started slicing through the ropes from behind. Luckily, the blade was sharper than she had imagined, cutting deeply with ease. In no time, the ropes were off her hands. It was still daylight, and she wouldn't want to draw attention, so waiting for dark was best.
…
A few hours passed, and in no time, it was already dark. All Evan did was take a long nap. Thanks to the cell prison, she didn't have to sweep or mop or ask to cook. This place had its advantages. Day or night, it was always dark, so she knew her ways of telling if it was day or night, and her prediction told her this was the dark.
Guards here worked nonstop and were usually tired at night. The cell was built underground, distracting criminals from knowing or distinguishing day from night.
Seeing how quiet it was,Evan executed her plan with ease. She tried taking off that big, giant belt, but it was impossible. An idea suddenly popped into her head. The pendant. She immediately took it, placing it on the spot where the belt was.
Immediately as she did,the belt faded into dust, and only dust fell from her body.
“Whaa?”
