Chapter 19 Wedding engagement
“What kind of question are you asking yourself? Of course you're a witch! Now get me out of this place. Do you know who I am?” the bunny scoffed. She paid little to no attention to what he was saying and just stared at her reflection. She sighed, trying to brush it off as nothing. She went to the servants' public bathroom to wash up. The day was sad and lonely. The duke wasn't even in the mansion and she missed him horribly. Never did she imagine missing this man. She usually thought about him, but she had never missed him this much. Maybe it was because of how long the two of them had spent time together.
Soon afternoon arrived. Evan's work was just watering the garden, as she was done with all her chores. She was less busy and had volunteered to do the work, making sure no grass grew among the angelic ones. She usually hummed a particular song while she spent her time taking care of this beauty, as if it was the only family she had left. Beautiful and divine. Evan was a lover of poetry, and over the years she had written poems about almost everything that caught her attention. An example was this beautiful rose that glowed under the sunlight. She loved dancing dramatically as well. That was why when Isabella was divinely dancing, it caught her attention immediately.
“Hmm, so divine,” she whispered into the flowers as she landed a kiss on one of them. They were her current family at the moment. She had no other. Looking at flowers gave her hope, hope that she wasn't going to drown in this wicked world. Looking at flowers enlightened and inspired her. When little Evan was a kid and she cried a lot, Mrs. Caviar usually took her to visit the garden. As soon as her hazel eyes collided with the brightness of the flowers, it formed a spark from within.
After watering and kissing a bunch of flowers, she sat down inside the garden on the only single rock that was inside the huge garden. She observed how everywhere was, so divine and beautiful, pure and kind.
If only the world was this way,it would've been a happy, safe place to live in. She was still in her imaginary world when she heard a carriage roll in from the gates. It was fancy and seemed to be owned by someone influential and rich. She looked through the flowers and saw the carriage pull up in front of Donovan's mansion.
Out of it came a beautiful lady. She was fully dressed in a ball gown colored yellow. She looked bright and shiny, as if she was some kind of magic produced by a magic source.
Her appearance was elegant and respectable. On the other end, Ezekiel came out and immediately took the girl's hand. He was dressed in a beautiful and expensive blue coat. Everything about the two of them screamed wealth. The wealth Evan will not, or isn't even permitted, to dream of.
They both walked into the mansion respectably and Evan envied them. She wished she was respected constantly. In this world, to live in wealth is to live in safety. Once you're in wealth, your safety is guaranteed.
Realizing that it was now time to go back to her room, Evan stood up, carrying the watering can with her. With two hours of dancing, her own imagination would never be real. As she was passing back to her room, she saw two maids gossiping about something again. Evan looked at them with wondering eyes as they approached her.
“What are you girls up to this time?Who are you gossiping about?” asked Evan. She knew these maids' attitudes could be very ugly most of the time.
“Evan, what concerns you? We aren't talking to you, and trust me, we're not of the same age, so when talking to me, talk to me with respect, dear,” one of them said, rolling her eyes, and they both walked away.
“Pfft, dramatic,” thought Evan. She walked to her room as if it was no big deal. She was used to it by now but always had something to say.
She got to her room, laying down in her little bed. She looked at the gray-white-blue sky through the window, a sky yet to pour down onto the earth.
Dozing off little by little, she began hearing music playing softly. She could hear that it was in the sitting room of the mansion.
As long as she could remember, there was no occasional event today. Thinking it was something casual, she brushed it off.
“Ahhhh!Help, help!!” It was the bunny rabbit, who had just awakened from his deep slumber.
He tried moving his bunny body but couldn't.He could only talk without his mouth moving.
“Do you know who I am?I am Brody! Let me out!” He vented his anger furiously. As usual, Evan ignored the bunny; after all, it was just a bunny.
“I wonder what party they're hosting today.Maybe it's an urgent tea party,” Evan said, her mind deeply absorbed with the thought.
“You idiot!Keep wondering! Come get me out of here!!! Don't you know it's a wedding engagement?” The rabbit sneered his last words, making Evan jump up. She sat straight up on the bed.
“What did you say? A wedding engagement?” she asked with wide eyes. “Who is getting married?”
“Pfft, how is that your business? You're 16 years old! Did you think the duke would glance one look at you?”
“The duke?He is getting engaged today!” The words came out of her mouth carrying a tune of pain and disappointment. Her eyes were mixed with regret, as if she had been fooled.
“Oh! I know that look, you love him! I knew it. Bahaha!” The bunny mocked as he watched tears roll down the girl's eyes. She was momentarily baffled and dumbstruck. Her eyes were bloodshot; her pink, full lips trembled. It was as if this was the last day on earth.
…
Back in the sitting room where the engagement party was being held, family and friends were invited. The maids did their respective activities. The party looked grand and beautiful. Ezekiel sat on one of the chairs, his lips set in a thin line. His cold gray eyes and unpredictable expression were bright, shining brighter than the sun.
The lady sat beside him as they stared at each other.
“You look beautiful,”Ezekiel complimented. The girl blushed. She smiled back at him.
“Thank you, milord,” she replied as she threw herself into his arms.
“Oh,my son. You two look good together,” his mother walked up to their seat. She handed a cup of bloodtea to the girl.
“Here, dear. It's our family's traditionally made bloodtea, haha. Zeke loves it.” The girl accepted it with both hands but didn't take a sip from it. She gracefully placed it on the table.
As soon as she did, she felt a pang of irritation in her throat. It was so itchy it couldn't be ignored. She placed her hand on her neck and began to scratch it. Her long vampiric nails came out, injuring her as she scratched harder.
“Are you okay?” Ezekiel and Mrs. Donovan were terrified. The next thing, her eyes grew red. Noticing what was going on, Ezekiel stood up, and soon everyone's attention was focused on her. She manifested and threw up black blood. She groaned. Ezekiel was left speechless. Looking around, he discovered that it was happening to everyone, including his mother, who stood in front of him, about to attack him.
