Chapter 18 A black witch in the mansion
The little bunny stood motionless. Evan didn't know where she had picked up the power or why she was able to turn a person into a rabbit. She had cast both his soul and body into the bunny. Evan was a little overwhelmed by all this and unsure what to do if someone in the mansion discovered the housekeeper was gone.
“Get me out of here immediately! Get me out of here now! Get me out!” The bunny struggled but couldn't even move. His body was trapped inside, so there was no way he would be able to move.
“Keep it down!” Evan rushed to close the door quickly. After she did, she picked up the yellow bunny and placed it on her bed.
“From now henceforth, I am your master and you are my pet!” she instructed.
“Ahh! What have you done to me? Why can't I move my hands? Why am I inside a rabbit?” the bunny asked all in one go.
“Blah, blah, blah! You're inside a rabbit because it suits you perfectly,” she responded. She wondered which expression she must be wearing by now.
“Get me out! Do you realize what you're doing? Do you have a death wish?” He vented his anger on her. “Do you think everyone won't know what you did? You're a black witch! Get me out of here, you wizard!”
Little by little, Evan started learning that the housekeeper was talkative. He talks a lot and makes a lot of noise, though the bunny’s mouth wasn't moving.
“This room is so boring and I needed company, so I think you're the best choice to keep me company! I'll be so grateful!” she said, rubbing both hands on her face in a cute gesture.
“No wonder you have no family! You're such a moron, a curse…” and before the bunny could finish its words, it was punched by Evan. Her effortless punch made the weightless bunny fly to the other corner of the room.
“Ahh!” She heard him scream in pain. The bunny’s butt was upwards while its head was touching the ground, serving as its legs.
“Aahh! Please help me, Evan,” he finally begged.
“You're better off in that place; it's punishment for insulting me!” She said as she got on her bed, using the blanket to cover her body.
“Bunny! Goodnight!” With her last words, she fell asleep.
…
The morning was fine with happiness and joy. All the maids slept to the fullest. No one disturbed them from waking up and doing duties. Their housekeeper, who was meant to do this, was currently inside a bunny. His head was used as legs for holding its tiny body.
He was in that position until the day broke into life.
Evan was still sleeping as well. Her mind never thought of helping the poor bunny who was struggling to breathe.
He tried moving but unfortunately, he couldn't.
Knock! Knock!
Someone knocked and the door flew open.
“Evan? You're still sleeping? Come on, get up immediately!” It was the assistant housekeeper, Olivia. The housekeeper once said he didn't need any assistant; he wanted everyone to be directly under his control.
Evan bounced her legs on the bed as if feeling too irritated. She wished that she could also turn Olivia into a cat or something.
“Give me some time!” she muttered.
“Evan? What time? I told you to get up. We are in trouble!”
Evan already guessed what it would be: the housekeeper is missing.
Thinking that it's really not a big deal, she got down from the bed drastically.
“What work are we going to do today?” Evan asked, a smile immediately appearing on her face.
“Evan, be fast! I'm leaving,” said Olivia as she walked out of the room.
Evan's face was slightly dull. She looked around the room, reaching for her little bunny. Still seeing it in the same position, she went on and kicked it, sending him to another direction with an entirely different position this time.
…
The scenario Evan met in the sitting room was quite unexpected and unannounced. All the maids sat on the floor while the rest of the Donovan mansion's residents were comfortably seated.
Evan quickly joined the maids who were seated on the floor.
When she was done, she spotted someone in the corner lying down lifeless. Her mind was now in full alertness. Oh!? It was Rose!
Life is short. This kind of incident was usually considered a myth to her, and now she was using her own eyes to see many things happening.
Harsh footsteps could be heard descending the stairs. When they finally reached their destination, their owner paused and looked at all the maids, scanning their faces, trying to predict their motives.
“Who did this?” Ezekiel's voice was as deep and melodic as an angel's, yet at the same time, it was scary.
No one answered. The sitting room was as quiet as a graveyard. No one dared to speak.
“I am asking a question and no one is answering? Are you guys deaf?” It seemed like this was a bad day for the duke. If anyone dared to do anything crazy, he wouldn't mind tearing them apart.
He went on, checking every maid's face. He knew that there had to be a black witch in this house, and he would dig to the ends of the earth to find who that person was.
“Someone died and the housekeeper is missing? Laughable. I must find the person who did this at any cost. If you know you're behind this, you better come and face death, because if I find you, you'll face something more horrible than death.” With that, he walked out of the mansion.
“You all can leave,” a middle-aged man said. He and Zeke are cousins.
The maids did as they were told. They weren't scared they were going to die because every servant was well aware that he or she was not responsible for the death of the maid.
Evan was an exception. She urgently wanted to tell the duke, but something within her, like a person speaking inwardly, told her not to breathe a word. She felt the only safe person to tell was Isabella. Unfortunately, she didn't know where to find the girl.
She thought about all the people who had actually shown her true love, from Mrs. Caviar to the duke, then to Isabella. Then she thought of how she was bullied that day; she was punched hard on the face.
‘Huh? The wound.’ She knew it; something was off all this while. The punch she had received the other day—the wound was no longer to be found on her face.
She rushed into her room, glancing at her face once more. Her face was angelic, smooth with sun-kissed skin.
“Oh no, oh no!! What is happening to me?” she burst into tears, and the bunny who was in the other corner just looked at the girl, looking hopeless and feeling regret.
“What is going on with you? Are you turning back into your form as a black witch?” the bunny asked, but she totally ignored him, looking at her reflection in the mirror intensely.
“Am I really a witch?”
