Chapter 14 He found her
Evan's expression darkened and a deep frown formed on her face. She knew nothing about her family, and Mrs. Caviar had told her she wasn't her mother two years ago. Now some information was just popping up and saying there was information about her family? It was ridiculous. She wasn't even interested in hearing the info.
Isabella set her lips in a straight line, wondering if she should proceed. Evan looked lost, and it was understandable. She had no one to love her from the start. So how come they were now showing up? What was she supposed to do? She was momentarily baffled by this information. She wished in her heart that it was just a bad dream and there was no family.
“Evan, should I continue?” Isabella’s voice was incredibly low. Her eyes that were shining were totally dimmed, as if their light had been stolen.
“If you don't want me to talk about it,we can leave it be, it's okay.” She wanted to say to Isabella, ‘Leave it be, I don't need them,’ but she was also curious what kind of information Isabella had brought to her.
After some moments of silence,Evan spoke with a weak tone.
“Speak,”came out of her lips dully. All the bones in her body had been weakened by now, and she was unsure if her brain was still functioning properly.
“Come sit.” Isabella took Evan by the hand, leading her to a bench made of wood. They both sat on it.
“Evan, you need to calm down,” Isabella started.
“Firstly, where are your parents?” Evan suddenly asked, unexpectedly out of the blue.
“They died saving me while I was a baby,”Isabella replied. It was true. Her parents died saving her. They said she was dangerous and some crazy stuff like that. Just like that, their little village was attacked by Black Witches; even rogue vampires attacked as well. Everyone was killed, and Isabella’s parents put her into a wooden basket and placed it on the river.
“I am sorry,”Evan muttered; her apology was clearly written on her face and in her voice.
“Evan, you didn't kill them. Don't be sorry.” Isabella was now consoling her as if she was hurt or something.
“Tell me about my parents.” Calling the word ‘parents’ was weird to her. She had never said that word in reference to herself.
“Unfortunately,it isn't about your parents. It's about one of your relatives. The way the situation is, I think he is your sibling,” Isabella explained carefully and warmly. Evan listened as if her life depended on what Isabella was saying.
“Hmm,”Evan gave a slight hum. She had a sibling? Impossible!
“For now, that's what I can say. The information is unclear, so I can't fully guarantee you if he is truly your family. But I am still investigating, and I promise to tell you anything I find.”
“Thanks for telling me;you're so nice,” Evan responded with a bright smile painted on her face.
A while ago,she was running, thinking that she was going to be used to make potions.
Thank the Lord of the heavens that Isabella was a very nice and genuine person. She wished to keep being friends with her forever. After all, she had never had any friends before.
Growing up in that mansion, she was never allowed to have friends, nor was she allowed to leave. She was just locked in there like in a prison cell. She sighed.
“I feel sleepy,”Evan said as a yawn left her lips.
“Hahaha,of course. Don't be hard on yourself. He might be your family or he might not,” said Isabella. “I am also feeling sleepy as well. Come on, since you no longer see me as a masquerade, let's lie on the same bed then, haha.”
“Sure!Let's rest. At least a break from that annoying duke,” said Evan, seeing his terrifying face. He was never smiling, and he did that only when he wanted to mock her. He was just playing the scary bad guy in a movie. Evan loved chill people, not stiff-hearted ones.
They both went to the bed Evan had been sleeping on a while ago. Laying down, the both girls drifted to sleep.
Truth to be told, the main reason why Isabella wasn't telling Evan any further information was that the person she found was actually a vampire male, whereas Evan is a human girl. It was quite confusing.
She planned on digging in further. When Isabella was put into the lake and found by a white witch, she was taught lots of things. She even grew up in a church, being a reverend sister.
Witches were the secret leaders of churches, but only white witches. They disguised themselves and acted as a pastor or reverend or any other leadership position in the church. Some said they were weak and usually used the power of God to fight. But the truth was, they were only a small population of white witches, and witches nowadays were rare. They were continuously being wiped out and killed by Black Witches, and black witches were slowly taking the population of witches, leaving white witches few.
They both slept for about two hours before waking up.Isabella was the first to get off from bed. A few minutes later, Evan woke up.
“Ah, we must've slept for hours,” she mumbled, stretching her hands. Her bare foot stepped on the stony, cold ground, and as soon as it did, something trembled like an earthquake, as if a giant creature had stepped on the ground outside. It shook again with force. Some things in the room even started falling, shaking due to the motion radiating from outside.
“What the hell is that?”Evan asked; fear gripped her heart, and goosebumps could be found all over her skin.
Isabella’s eyes were as wide as if they could pop out from their sockets at any moment.
“I think they found you!”Isabella blurted out. “Please, you need to go before he destroys my home,” she pleaded, holding Evan's hand in a begging gesture. Evan was utterly shocked by the act.
“Huh? Go where? You want them to kill me?” she asked, frightened by the trembling of the soil.
“Evan, you've stayed here for too long, and I bet the duke is angry.”
“Huh?But I barely stayed here for 10 hours.”
“Evan, you might not have known, but you and I slept for one month.”
“Whaa?”It was true. They both had slept for a month without Evan noticing. The cave was a magical one, and anyone who entered there to rest found peace in his or her soul, thus they slept for years or months. The only person who could control this was Isabella herself.
She immediately chanted a spell under her breath.A portal formed on the wall of the room, and before Evan could say a word, she was pushed in by Isabella.
…
Evan appeared in front of a huge river. It seemed like it was an island. No one seemed to be here. She wondered why Isabella had sent her here. If Ezekiel was attacking in front of the home, why didn't she just send her there? Why take her too far?
What Evan didn't know was that the commotion that was happening was a reflection of what Ezekiel was doing in another faraway place.
She stood there for minutes, trying to spot something, anything. But so far, there was only the huge water in front of her. She was a bit disappointed. Still wearing the dress from the other night she and the duke had spent together the day before she was taken away by Isabella.
Suddenly, she spotted something from afar, a person rather. It was a man, tall and huge. He wasn't putting on clothes, only trousers, exposing his upper muscular body. The way he walked, one could tell he was hopeless and disappointed. Evan watched him from a distance, and the more he came closer, the more he looked familiar to her.
“Huh?Duke Ezekiel?” She was utterly speechless. Questions stirred up in her little mind, like what had happened to him? How did he end up here? Why was he walking as if all hope in life was lost?
“Milord! Milord!” she waved her hand, indicating her presence. The moment Ezekiel’s eyes landed on her, he used his vampiric speed like a flash and reached where she was standing. Before Evan could react to that, he pulled her into a tight hug, leaving the girl mystified. They hugged for more than five minutes. It was so surprising to Evan.
She wanted to compliment him;he is really fast. But she wasn't given an opportunity for that.
His body was warm despite the weather being cold.
“Milord, are you okay?” she asked. The only time she saw him was when he appeared. She remembered that day he looked deadly scary.
Slowly, he pulled away and stared into her eyes. She held his gaze with the same intensity. “I miss you, my pet.”
