Chapter 37 37

Chapter 37 37
Kimberly’s POV

After that day, both of us seemed to have fallen back to our old routine where we talk and chat as if nothing had happened. During school hours for the past two days, he would come to sit beside me and we would talk about the most random things.

I hated how giddy that gesture made me feel. It was like the most normal thing that could ever happen. I did not miss how people would look at us with surprise whenever they passed by. It was a lot to digest at the same time but I had to remind myself that I was the one who started this whole thing in the first place.

But deep down in my mind somewhere, I started to hope that maybe, just maybe he would be warming up to me. The guy was cold. Especially to other people, but it was obvious that he thought of me differently.

A random person would think that he gave me the time of the day which was funny because it was true.

I can’t seem to shake off the evil stares that are being sent my way by London though. He’s not had a chance to bully me for the past two days and that sure as hell has been messing with him which I really liked. I mean, who would want to sign up to be bullied every day by an arrogant jerk?

Somehow, we have not had a science practical class since the announcements had been made but I knew it was just a matter of time before it started. The woman came to class the other day to tell us that some of the chemicals we would be needing are not available yet but they would be soon. Was it bad that I did not want them to be available, or to even go ahead with the practical at all?

I wanted nothing at all to do with London. I tried as much as possible to avoid him like the plague.

And then, there was Sandy. Since the first and last encounter we had, she’s not been in my space again. In fact, she pretends that I do not exist and goes about her business

Which was creepy as hell. We had a couple of minuscule seconds where we would make eye contact and she would smile at me without the smile reaching her eyes. And that was concerning as hell. Because it was like she was telling me that she hoped that we were still on the same page about the conversation we had last.

I wanted to fire at her that it was not me and that she should meet up with her supposed crush and leave me out of their drama but there was this fear that was in me concerning her.

“What do you want?” The question jerked me out of my thoughts, and I discovered that I was already at the front of the line in the cafeteria to collect food. The woman who was standing in front of me had this nasty look on her face that kind of said that she’s been waiting for me to talk for a while now.

“S….sorry about that. I’ll go with an avocado sandwich. Thank you.” I told her flashing an apology smile at her but she did not budge, just started with the order which finished in less than two minutes.

“Thank you. Sorry again.” I said and walked to an empty table that was beside the glass windows and sat down. Thankfully, neither Julian nor London is nowhere to be seen. So I can have my time to myself today to think about what I want to do going forward regarding both of them.

“Why do I feel like you’re happy not having me around?”

I rolled my eyes and wanted to scream, which I did internally. So much for wanting to be alone. I wanted to squash the stupid butterflies that were flapping in my stomach at the sound of his voice.

He finally materialized in front of me and he was sitting there like he owned the place.

“What are you doing here?” I asked him dumbly.

“To eat of course.” He said with a smirk on his face.

“Don’t give me that. You rarely eat here. I must assume that the food they make here is not up to your standards right?”
I asked him and he nodded his head and I wanted to hit him over the head.

“You arrogant prick. I just knew it.” I laughed and I could not even stop myself.

“You hurt me. I wanted to stay with you. Remember, you’re my girlfriend.” He said.

“Why have you taken it upon yourself to remind me of that fact these days?” I asked. I needed to because I wanted to know what was going on in his head. He was like a brick wall, and one could not even tell what was going on in his head.

“Is it not true? I thought we had dropped the act already.” He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly, as if he did not just say that.

“W….” He cut me.

“Why is your heart beating very fast?” He asked me and looked at me, since I was avoiding looking directly at his eyes before now.

“How would you know that?” I asked him, giving myself away by putting my hands on my chest.

“Your pulse. It’s breathing on its own.” He said in a suddenly tight voice that made me feel on edge. His gaze was locked on my throat. I had removed my leather jacket from earlier and I was in a low-neck shirt.

“Okay. That’s weird.” I say, forcing out a laugh.

“Put me on. What’s weird?” My mood immediately changed from ten to zero.

London flopped onto the other chair that was around the table. His gaze flew from me to Julian. He had this blank playful look on his face and I knew what that meant. He’s here to look for trouble.

“What are you doing here?”
