Chapter 129 129.
Chapter 129 129.
Kimberly’s POV
Everything happened so fast. One minute, I was trying to get London to be okay; the next minute, Sandy breezed in from nowhere and hit Julian really hard, and then London stopped groaning and was just lax. I knew he was breathing though.
Sandy took him away, and they left the scene probably to the health centre. I stared down at my hand, and I was shocked by the amount of blood that was on it.
“What was that?” I turned to him slowly and asked. What the hell was he trying to pull now? What could be going on through his head?
He stared blankly at me.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He said without any emotion in his voice and leaned against the wall behind him, folding his hands in front of him.
I wanted to pursue it, but I stopped since there was no reasonable explanation as to why he would cause the bleeding that just happened without actually touching him, as London had said earlier. But then, the feeling did not go away. Instead, it’s gotten a little stronger.
Something does not feel right. And I don’t even know what that is.
I decided to walk away from the scene. I did not take two steps away from him when his voice stopped me.
“Are you getting married to London?” He asked me. There was something about his tone that made me feel hurt. He sounded emotionless, like he did not care what happened. Or what I did. And I should do the same too. I don’t care about him. Well, not anymore. I don’t exactly give two fucks about what he thinks at the moment.
“And how is that your business?” I replied to him without turning to him. I was exhausted. Today has been a lot of things for me. And calm wasn’t part of it.
If I continued like this, I might actually snap, and I knew I would go off and it would be my fault.
“How did it happen? What could…” he started, and it felt like he was almost pained to say the words that were coming out of his mouth, and I laughed.
“We broke up, remember? I’m sure you remember the words you spoke to me in this same hallway a couple of days back. I mean, it’s been only over a week now, so it must still be with you.” I said to him with a sweet smile on my face.
His jaw clenched so hard, and if I did not know what I was saying, I would have said I saw hurt pass through his eyes. But then I knew that was not true. There was no way he would feel hurt from anything I said or what had happened. He does not care anyway.
“I’m not interested in this conversation, Julian. I’m tired. I have a lot of things on my mind. So, how about you stay away from me?” I asked him almost in a pleading tone. “I thought that for the one week that you did not come to school, when you came, I would say a lot of things to you since you decided to break up with me and then disappear again without a single word. But seeing you now, I feel like there is no point in doing so. I get it. I mean, what was I thinking in the first place that you would like me?” I laughed bitterly, not caring about the tears that were welling in my eyes.
I hated how emotional I’ve been since this happened. It was like my whole world was flipped upside down and he was the one in charge of the wheel thing. I felt like he pulled the shock from under my feet and made me feel like a piece of shit at the end of the day.
“I want to blame you so much.” I sniffled and used the back of my hand to clean the tears that dropped to my cheeks. He stepped closer to me tentatively, but I consciously took a step back to keep that distance between us. I don’t want him touching me. If he did, I might actually crumble, and I would not be able to pick myself up if I did. And it would be a really bad thing on my own part.
“I really want to lay the blame of everything going south on you because you started it. But then, I was the wrong one since I was all in my own head, feeling too good about what doesn’t belong to me in the first place. I hoped too much. And I coveted it. And you know the thing about coveting, you will get bitten in the ass so bad that you won’t even see it coming. Because that was what happened to me: I did not see it coming. I thought I could at least have something to myself. I thought if I had you, my life, well the rest of it, would not be as bad as I had imagined it to be. I thought if you were there, I could actually pull through and enjoy it with you.”
I sniffled again.
“Kim….”
“Don’t. Don’t call me that.” I whispered, my voice shaking miserably. I could not even look at him right now. And I knew that my voice was down. “Don’t use any familiarity we might have. It hurts, Julian,” I raised my head to look at him then. He had this unreadable expression on his face. But something was off too.
“Even if I get engaged to London or anyone else, I want you to know that you did a very bad thing to me. You caused me a pain that was so immense that I found it really hard to go through my daily life.” I told him plainly, in a clear voice now. I was thankful that my voice did not waver as I said this.
Then I left.
