Chapter 85 A Truce.
I made dinner awkwardly, ignoring Camille's piercing stare that remained on me the entire time, like she was watching and waiting for me to do something stupid, like calling the police. But I was not going to do that because we had already made a deal.
After making dinner, I placed a plate across from her and sat down with my own plate.
Camille looked at the food in confusion. “Uh... I don't... I don't eat this.”
“Oh, well, can we just pretend you do? Because the fact that you're a vampire still makes me nervous.”
She blinked at my outburst but nodded in agreement anyway. I hastily took a spoonful of my dinner to stop myself from fidgeting. I've never been so nervous.
“So,” I began, “can you tell me everything about you? Don't leave out anything! I want the whole truth.”
She nodded with a sigh.
“Well, as I said before, my name is Camille Darkshadow, I'm the princess of the vampire nation.”
That didn't surprise me one bit.
Yeah, first of all, she's extraordinarily beautiful. Secondly, she knows nothing about house chores. No doubt about that—she's truly a princess.
“The reason I'm here in the human world is because I ran away from my own world. My father, the king, is forcing me to get married to a man I despise, and I had to run into the human world to hide. I know my father will definitely be searching for me. The human world is the only place safe enough for me to hide in.”
I licked my lips, surprised by the story. I can't believe she's being forced to marry a man she despises, and her father is currently searching for her?
If what she said is true, then there are more vampires out there that we humans don't know about. Have they been hiding all this time?
“Where is your world located?” I couldn't help asking. Maybe it was hidden on an island or in a country where the government chooses to keep strange things like this to themselves.
“It's not a place humans know about. In fact, the vampire world is a world completely different and hidden from the human world. The only way a human can come across the supernatural world is if a supernatural creature takes you there themselves.”
I raised a brow. “So that means the supernatural world is not reserved for vampires alone?”
She shook her head.
“There are werewolves, vampires, witches, dragons, elves, and a lot more creatures humans write fictions and fantasies about.”
“No way!” I exclaimed in disbelief. “Do all those creatures really exist?”
What if they have been living among us for a long time and we had no idea? Fuck, my neighbour could be a vampire and I won't even know.
I returned my attention back to Camille, only to find her staring at me and patiently waiting for me to ask more questions.
I cleared my throat and went on. “Anyway, if I may ask, why don't you want to marry the man your father picked for you, and why is he forcing you to despite your disapproval?”
Her eyes flashed an angry red, which terrified me for a second, but I relaxed when I saw that her anger wasn't directed at me.
“Giron is a monster. He's evil, and he's a very cruel vampire who treats humans as toys. Father wants me to get married to Giron and rule beside him, but I'll rather die than allow Giron to become the leader of the vampires. And the reason Father is forcing me is because I did something to Giron, and to redeem myself, I'll have to marry him.”
Woah! The story is even more complicated than I thought.
Not only is she being forced, but it seems like the man she's being forced to marry is dangerous. If that's the case, then I can't let her leave.
What if she's caught?
Wait a minute, why the fuck should I care?
She's a vampire, and I'm a human. Whatever goes on in the vampire world is the vampire's problem. I have my own fucking problems to worry about, and one of those problems is getting Camille the hell out of my house.
“Okay, Camille, I understand everything you just said, but I'm going to be honest with you. The mere fact that you're a vampire is disturbing, and I'll have no choice but to ask you to politely leave my house.”
Her shoulders slumped and she pouted in disappointment. It took everything in me not to change my mind.
“Mr. Josh, I know you're scared, but please believe me that I'm not going to hurt you. I'm really not a bad vampire. I'm only here because I have nowhere else to go. Please just trust me and give me a chance.”
The look in her eyes was a great temptation for me. Every bone in my body was aching for me to trust her, to give her a chance.
But she's a vampire—a creature we always believed were fictional—and now all of a sudden there is one right in front of me.
“How the fuck am I supposed to react? How am I sure that you didn't kill Ashley and take her place? How am I sure that the blood on your hands that night I saw you in the living room is not human blood?” I questioned with fear.
I can't just trust her no matter how innocent she looks. I shouldn't just believe the words she says and allow her to remain in my house.
With her eyes fixed on mine in a death stare, she swore, “I swear on my life, Josh. I have never hurt a human and I do not wish to. I promise I'll never hurt you or any other human. Please just give me a chance to prove myself.”
Something in her eyes convinced me that she was telling the truth.
I guess I just have to believe her and give her a chance to prove herself.
I let out a deep sigh. I don't know if I'm about to make the biggest mistake of my life, but I guess time will tell.
“Fine, I'll let you stay in my house.”
Her face brightened, and I ignored the way it made my heart flutter.
“But we'll have to make a truce.”
She tilted her head in a cute way. “A truce?”
I nodded, licking my lips nervously.
“Yeah, we need a truce. I'll let you live in my house, and in exchange, you won't eat me or any other human as long as you're here.”
She nodded rapidly. “Deal!”
I resisted a smile at how cute she was.
“Okay, so from now on, I'll call you by your real name, Camille. But you'll still be Ashley to everyone else. No one should know your true identity, okay?”
She nodded again.
“Okay, sir. I'll make sure I keep my identity a secret from anyone else.”
“Good,” I replied, satisfied with the meeting.
I just hope my instincts are right and Camille is a good vampire.
If not, I'm doomed.
