Chapter 84 A Deal.
It was difficult for me to open my eyes, but I pried them open anyway, blinking rapidly when the ceiling lights assaulted my eyes, forcing me to close them again. I sat up on the bed with a piercing headache, holding my head in my hands with my eyes closed.
“What happened?” I mumbled to no one in particular, but I heard Ashley—or rather, Camille’s—voice answer back.
“You fainted, sir. Are you okay?”
At the sound of her voice, my eyes flew open, and Camille’s worried face instantly came into view. Everything that had happened a while ago came back to me—how Camille went from being human to a vampire.
I screamed and flew off the bed. I ran out of my room to another room, screaming hysterically, and banged the door shut, making sure to lock it.
Even after locking it, I kept my back firmly pressed against the door to stop Camille from coming in.
Fuck, I can’t believe she’s an actual vampire. How the hell do vampires exist, and how the hell did I, of all people, end up having one in my house as my housemaid?
All my life, I’ve always minded my business and done my own things, so how the hell did I get myself into this situation?
A knock on the door almost caused my heart to explode in my chest.
“Please come out, sir. I swear I’m not going to hurt you.”
Hell, I’m not going to listen to anything she says or believe a word that comes out of her mouth. She’s been a vampire the whole time, and I allowed her into my house.
She’s a vampire, and the real Ashley Adams is dead. That explains a lot. She probably drank all the blood from her body and pretended to be her so she could drink mine too.
Fuck, I have to look for something that vampires hate the most. Holy water, a crucifix, or fucking garlic—just anything to get this blood-drinking monster away from me.
“Mr. Josh, please come out and hear me out,” she pleaded from the other side of the door as I leaned against it with all my strength.
“I’m not leaving this door because I know you’re going to eat me!”
I frantically patted my pockets in search of my phone, and I groaned in frustration when I couldn’t find it. I must have left it in my bedroom. How the hell am I going to call the police now?
The knock came again, and Camille’s angelic voice followed.
“I told you I don’t drink human blood. I would never hurt you or any other human. Please believe me, sir.”
Her tone was so sincere that I was almost fooled.
What if this is just a plan of hers to lure me out of here and drain me dry?
I won’t let that happen! I won’t let her take my blood! If I’m going to die in here, then so be it. But I will never listen to the words of a vampire only to fall to my death.
\---
It was nighttime, and I was starting to feel very hungry. I hadn’t eaten lunch or dinner today, and it was all thanks to Camille.
Why did she have to tell me that she’s a vampire? She could have lied and said she was in the mafia or something. But again, I was the one who demanded the truth from her.
I groaned in frustration, and my stomach followed the sound in unison.
Fuck! I’m so hungry!
The other side of the door had been quiet for a while now. Could it be that Camille is gone?
As if she read my mind, her voice came again.
“Sir, you have to come out. I can hear your stomach growling. Don’t starve yourself because of me, please.”
I was tempted to, but I pushed that temptation to the back of my mind. I’d rather die from hunger than be killed by a vampire.
“Think about it, sir. If I had truly wanted to hurt you, I would have done it a long time ago, and I wouldn’t have revealed what I truly was to you. I told you who I am because I didn’t want to lie to you, but seeing you so scared of me kind of hurts.”
I did as she said and really took a moment to think about what she said.
She is right in a way. If she really wanted to hurt me, she would have done so a long time ago.
We have been in this house together for more than a week, but apart from how strange she was, she hasn’t tried to hurt me.
Maybe she really isn’t a bad vampire after all. Maybe I should just give her the benefit of the doubt for now.
I’m going to go out there, but if she tries to suck my blood, I’ll fight her with all my might.
Slowly, I opened the door to find her bright face standing right in front of it, watching me happily.
I gulped and looked away from her face, wondering why a vampire could look so beautiful like a real human.
“I didn’t come out because I trust you. I’m still very scared of you. But if you want me not to be, you have to tell me everything about you and where you come from. Do we have a deal?!”
She nodded without hesitation.
“Yeah, we have a deal.”
