Chapter 54 Pushed.
We passed through the dark woods for what seems like hours. Domenic said nothing through our journey, and I all my effort to get some answers out of him was in vain.
For the fifth time since we started walking, I decided to ask him again. "Where are we going Domenic? Are you taking me back to the palace?"
He stopped in his tracks and I noticed how his fist clenched around the sword he was holding. Did he use that sword to save me? I found my heart growing warm at the thought.
Domenic turned to look at me. There was a look of worry on his face.
What is going on?
"Kitty, I'm not taking you back to the palace. In fact, I'm getting you out of this world, back to the human world where you belong. I had promised you remember? Now it's time for me to keep that promise."
My heart pounded as fear took over my body. I was afriad to ask the question I was about to ask, but I decided that it is necessary. I have to know.
I looked down at my feet and summon the courage to ask him. I did tell him that I loved him even though he didn't respond. He shouldn't be too shocked if I wanted him to come with me.
"Will you..." I hesitated and tried not to panic. "Will you come with me?"
He didn't reply immediately. That was enough to kill my courage and make me sad. What if I was completely wrong to think that he wants to be with me? He doesn't even love me. How sure am I thay he isn't happy to get rid of me?
"I can't." He confirmed my thoughts, and my heart broke in a million pieces.
I looked up at him with tear filled eyes. I didn't want to cry and look pathetic in front of him, but I couldn't help how my heart hurts so much at his blunt admission.
"Why not?"
The look in his eyes was a soft gaze that gave me hope that maybe he can change his mind, but deep down I knew he won't. He's prince of the Vampires. Would he abandon his world and people for a woman he doesn't even love? Was I being selfish in wanting him to choose me over his own people?
Domenic held both side of my face and stared deeply into my eyes. I felt like he could see through me. Like he could see the very depth of my soul and he knew my every thought.
In moment like this, I always feel like Domenic is the only one who really knows me. He's the only one who has ever been so willing to protect me, even though it started for the wrong reasons.
"I wish I could come with you Kate," he began with a sullen voice. "But I must remain here to protect you. Your life is in great danger. Right now not only Giron will be after you. The council will as well, and that's not safe for you."
I shook my head against his hands. "I don't want to go anywhere without you Domenic. Whatever you plan to face, let's face it together. You'll either come with me, or I'll stay with you."
Domenic sighed tiredly. "Don't be stubborn kitty. You have to leave this place. It's the best way I can protect you."
"No!" I snapped standing my ground. "I'm going nowhere if you're not coming with me!"
He smiled this time and pecked my lips lightly. "I knew you would be so against it. That's why you've always been my fierce little kitty." His smile fell again, "but my decision remains the same, you need to return to your world."
"But Domenic..."
His lips cut off my protest as he crashed it on mine and kissed me with a fierce passion like he feared I was about to disappear with the wind. I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him just as fiercely, enjoying the feel of his warm lips on mine.
His hands wrapped themselves around my waist and pulled me flushed against him. My body warmed up at the feel of his hard body pressed against my soft ones. I needed him so bad. It's been so long since I've been touched by him. That lonely cell at Giron's coven kept us apart for too long, but now I just can't seem to get enough of him.
We pulled away from each other, breathing deeply into each other's mouth. Our warm breaths warming our faces and tingling my skin.
Domenic kept his arms around my waist and his forehead pressed against mine. "I care about you Kitty. I care about you a lot." He whispered, "it would drive me insane if I ever made a mistake and end up losing you." He pulled his head away and looked at me with fondness, a look that made my heart warm up. "That's why I have to let you go."
I was about to protest again when I heard a weird sound behind me. I looked behind me and my eyes widen when I saw the ground opening as a hole began to form. There was a glow surrounding the hole and I knew instantly that Domenic was ready to carry on with what he had just said.
"Domenic no! I don't want to leave you! Come with me, please!" I begged with pleading eyes, tears rolling down my cheeks.
He smiled sadly and brushed the tears away from my cheek. "You told me you love me, I want to say it so bad too, but I don't understand what I feel for you yet kitty. All I know is that I must protect you. So please," he lifted up his head and looked at me as his hands went to my shoulder, "understand me."
Before I could grasp hold of what he meant, he had already pushed me into the hole.
I watched him with wide eyes as he stood there sadly while I fell deeper and deeper into the hole with my heart shattered into so many pieces.
