Chapter 27

Calen carried me all the way back to the room i was staying in whilst we were here, and although i had loads that i wanted to say, i remained quiet. i didnt know where to begin, or how to get my feelings across, besdies, it probably wasnt a good time to rant about how i was feeling when their was so much more going on, when their were probably familes that wouldnt be reunited again because of the attack.

what use was i when i couldnt use my power to protect those around me? yes, my bloodline was full of strong and powerful witches, and even stronger women; but that didnt mean i was one of them. it didnt mean that i would be anywhere close to the women they were. i was nothing. i had failed to protect everyone i cared about: Sarah would have been much better suited for this life, she would have known what to do. She would have been able to handle the pressure that came with all of this.

Maybe she woukd have even found a way out of the marriage and been able to stay away from the war that i knew was looming.

the vampire clans had been at war for so long that they probably didnt know any different, their children would just grow to hate the same people. just like i did.

i would have never expected vampires to even be able to have children, but it seems that they could with either witches or born vampires.

Calen placed me onto the floor when we got into the suite i had been staying in, His eyes hooded as he watched me. "do you have something on your mind little witch??" he asked, taking a seat on the single beds, it was occupying the left side of the room. "we shouldn't keep things from each other, especially when both our lives, hang in the balance."

The only other things in the room with a small wooden desk table Beside the bed, in the wardrobe to hold all of the clothes, I was given by members of the pack, it was simple, but it was all I needed, there was even an ensuite bathroom, so I didn't have to share with anyone else. Which came in quite handy when you weren't very good at communicating. Or making friends for that matter.

I go and sit next to him, leave enough room so that I have space to leave if I needed to, or if I just didn't want to talk anymore. "I don't really know what's on my mind." I said. "haven't really known, much Of what has been on my mind since I escaped.I guess I'm just going through the motions and seeing what happens. But the attack today didn't help, I guess I feel guilty that these people are getting hurt."

"James and his people chose to help you, They knew the risks and they did it anyway, They are good people, and yes, some of them will get hurt, and others will die. But that is their choice, You can't be responsible for the choice of others." Calen said softly, his voice gentle.

I sigh heavily, Knowing he was right about the pack members. "I don't understand why you're putting so much faith in me, or why you have agreed to the stupid betrothal."

"I don't think our Proposal of marriage is stupid, I think it is a very smart option, you need protection, And I need a life companion. I guess my mother and your great grandmother knew what they were doing." he shrugged. "do you really think that Beatrice would place us together if she thought it was a bad idea? Because I certainly don't, she wouldn't have allowed any of the family, let alone her daughters grandchildren suffer."

"but isn't there anyone else you can think of that you would want? Surely you've had partners before?" I question him. I doubt you have been single for all of his immortal life.

He laughed softly, is the my question was silly, or maybe it just wasn't what he had expected. "of course, I've had partners, at least that's what you mortals call it, but it was mostly all sexual, And everyone involved knew that it wouldn't go further, because I was already promised to you, I have been promised to you since I was 200 years old."

i gasped slightly, "Wait, you are an adult when you agreed to this marriage?l

"yes." he Says with a frown. "does that surprise you?"

"I mean yes, it does a little, I don't understand why vampire would want to be married to a mortal."

He turns his whole body towards me. "you keep saying marriage, but do you know what it means in our world?"

I shake my head, an answer honestly, "No, i dont."

He shakes his head. "I guess I shouldn't be surprised. it wasn't exactly like you have had anyone to teach you were all this was." He growls slightly clealy annoyed but i wasnt sure if it was at me. "we should have interferred sooner, i warned my mother that you would come to me unprepared. i dont want to scare you."

"Scare me?" i say, my voice shaking.. "what exactly is involved in a vampire marriage?"

"The cermemony would be silimar, except for the words, but once the ceremony was over ... you would be turned."

"You are going to turn me?"

"Yes, eventaully that is what will happen." He nods, conforming my worst fears.

"But ... But wont i lose my powers and be a slave to you?"

"No!" He shouts, appaled by my words. "Who on earth told you that?!"

"The fake king Theon."

"Of course that fool will tell you such nonsense. No, you will not lose your powers and the only thing that would bound you to me is the blood oath to be faithful to one another, but we can go into that later." He takes my hand in his, his voice gentle. "I swear to you that i will never do anything to harm you, and i will never allow anyone else to do so either.

A knock sounded at the door, Edward entering and looking dow at our entwinted hands. "we have to go, our spies tell us that Theon is sending more men, they know for certain she is here."

Calen stands, gently tugging me with him, "Come on little witch, we have over stayed our welcome."

Time to go.

I guess I had to face reality sooner or later, and we had ti get back on the road.
