Chapter 104 - Two Bullets In His Chest
Amber's mind was groggy as she struggled to come back to consciousness. The cold water shocked her awake, and she found herself lying on a damp, concrete floor in what seemed like a large storage room. Her heart raced as she took in her surroundings—bare walls, dim lighting, and the unmistakable scent of mold. The sight of the men standing before her made her blood run cold.
The men, now unmasked, stared at her with leering eyes. One of them, a burly man with a scar across his cheek, stepped forward and grinned.
"Well, well, look who's finally awake," he sneered, his voice dripping with malice.
Amber's voice trembled as she spoke, trying to maintain her composure. "Who are you? What do you want from me?"
The scarred man laughed, a chilling sound that echoed through the empty room. "Who we are isn't important. What we want, well, that's a different story."
Another thug, lean and with a menacing look in his eyes, approached her and knelt down, reaching out to touch her face. Amber jolted back instinctively, her skin crawling at his touch. The men laughed again, clearly enjoying her fear.
"Looks like we've got ourselves a feisty one," the lean man said, his fingers lingering on her cheek. "I like that."
Amber's heart pounded in her chest. She had to stay strong and had to think of a way out. "Please, just let me go. I haven't done anything to you."
The scarred man shook his head, a mock-pitying expression on his face.
"It's not about what you've done to us, sweetheart. It's about someone trying to take revenge."
One of the other men, a stocky figure with tattoos snaking up his arms, smirked. "Yeah, a nice girl like you; we're just waiting for the boss to give the green light."
Amber's breath hitched. "The boss? Who is your boss?"
The men exchanged amused glances but remained silent on that point. Instead, the scarred man grabbed a chair and placed it in front of Amber, sitting down with casual authority.
"You see," he began, "we've got our orders. And until we get further instructions, we're just supposed to keep an eye on you. But that doesn't mean we can't have a little fun, right?"
The lean man leaned in closer, his breath hot against her ear. "Yeah, we just need someone to say the word, and you're all ours."
Amber's stomach churned with fear and disgust. "Don't touch me," she spat, her voice wavering but defiant. What about her baby? She needs to protect her baby. She gently rubbed her belly.
The men laughed again, the scarred man standing up and towering over her. "Oh, we're gonna touch you, alright. But first, let's see how much you scream."
Just as the situation seemed unbearably dire, the door to the storage room creaked open. The men turned, their expressions shifting from amusement to something more subdued. Amber strained to see who had entered, her heart racing with hope and dread.
A new figure stepped into the dim light, commanding immediate respect from the thugs. He was tall, dressed in a sleek black suit, and his cold, calculating gaze sent shivers down Amber's spine.
"Enough," the man said, his voice calm but carrying an edge of authority. "She's not to be touched."
The scarred man looked displeased but nodded. "Boss's orders?"
The man in the suit nodded. "Exactly. And you know better than to disobey."
Relief washed over Amber, though it was tempered by the realization that she was still in danger. The suited man turned to her, his expression unreadable.
But later on, Amber's eyes widened in shock as Katrina stepped out from the shadows, a twisted smile on her face. The dim light of the storage facility cast eerie shadows on Katrina's face, making her look more sinister than ever.
"Katrina?" Amber's voice trembled. "You did this?"
Katrina laughed, a sound devoid of any warmth. "Yes, Amber. I planned all of this. I found a sugar daddy with connections to some gangsters. We orchestrated your kidnapping," she confessed.
Amber's mind raced. "Why, Katrina? Why would you do this?"
Katrina's expression darkened. "You have no idea how hard my life has been. After the Baldwin company was on the brink of collapse, you refused to help us. You turned your back on us, Amber. While you were living comfortably, we were struggling to survive."
"It wasn't my fault," Amber pleaded. "I had to take care of Chase. I didn't have the resources to help everyone."
Katrina's eyes blazed with fury. "Save your excuses. You could have done something, but you chose not to. Now, you'll pay for that decision. Let me have fun with you before I give you to our little armies first."
Katrina raised a whip and lashed out at Amber. The sharp pain tore through Amber's body, and she cried out, tears streaming down her face.
"Please, Katrina, stop!"
But Katrina's face was a mask of rage. "No one can hear you now, Amber. You're going to suffer just like we did."
Meanwhile, Stefan's heart pounded as he sped towards the storage facility. The image of Amber, scared and vulnerable, haunted him, driving him faster. He couldn't bear the thought of her in danger. As he neared the facility, his phone buzzed with updates from his security team. They had successfully surrounded the building, ready to intervene.
When Stefan arrived, he saw his men strategically positioned around the facility, their faces grim and focused. One of his top security officers, Marcus, a burly man, approached him. "Sir, we've secured the perimeter. The police are on their way. It's best if you wait—"
"No," Stefan cut him off, his voice steely with determination. "I'm going in now. I can't wait. I won't leave her there any longer than she has to be."
Marcus looked conflicted but nodded, knowing better than to argue. "At least take a vest, sir."
Stefan waved off the suggestion. "No time." He moved towards the entrance, his mind solely focused on Amber. He knew it was reckless but couldn't consider his safety. Amber needed him.
Inside the facility, the air was thick and musty. Stefan moved stealthily, his senses heightened. Every creak and distant voice sent his adrenaline surging. As he navigated the dark, cluttered corridors, he finally heard voices up ahead. He slowed, straining to listen.
As Katrina continued to whip Amber, her vision blurred with pain and fear. She tried to curl into a ball to protect herself, but the blows kept coming. When Katrina was about to give Amber to the nearby thugs, the back door burst open.
Gunshots echoed through the facility. Chaos erupted as Stefan and his security team stormed in, taking down the thugs with precision. Stefan's eyes locked onto Amber and Katrina, and he saw the gun in Katrina's hand.
"Amber!" Stefan shouted, rushing towards her.
Katrina turned, her eyes wild with panic, and fired the gun. Stefan didn't hesitate. He threw himself in front of Amber, taking two bullets in the chest. He fell to the ground, gasping for breath, as the police contained Katrina and her accomplices.
Amber, barely conscious of the pain and shock, watched in horror as Stefan lay on the floor, blood pooling around him. "Stefan... no..."
The world around her spun, and everything went black.
