Chapter 31 Dylan Finally Found Out What I Was Hiding
"I completely agree; that's a great idea." Mary agreed with what I said.
"That way I'll also have to study martial arts even harder. I think my baby understands too and is ready to practice again." I put my sandwich back on the plate. While clapping my hands to get rid of any food crumbs, I stood up and started stretching.
"I didn't expect you to be even more enthusiastic, madam." Mary smiled; she took a sip of juice and put away all her food.
"You can start practicing; I'll clean everything up." Anne picked up the leftover food to put it back in the plastic bag.
"My love, you have to come and practice with me." My words surprised Anne; she looked up at me as if asking me to repeat what I said.
"Yes, wake up." I asked Anne to wake up and be conscious. I was really serious when I invited her to learn martial arts with me, but again, Anne seemed hesitant.
"To be by my side, to be a part of me, you must also have a background in self-defense." This time, my words successfully made Anne get up.
"Madam is right; you must be strong enough. If you can't protect your ma'am, then you must be able to protect yourself." Mary seemed to agree. She guided Anne to join us and receive training.
"Don't worry, I'll pay for Mary's services. You just need to attend the training." I patted Anne on the shoulder.
"Actually, I'm not sure I can or should do this. But I'm happy, because I'm actually interested in martial arts; it just feels impossible to ask someone to teach me with the limitations I have." Anne scratched her head, still looking hesitant and shy.
"Then don't waste the opportunity. Let's be great together." I smiled, held Anne's hand to dispel her doubts, and we learned together.

After the martial arts training was over, I went back to my room. I figured yesterday was just a warm-up, so my baby was surprised by the sudden movements Mother made. Now my body feels much lighter, and there's no stomach cramping like yesterday. And Mary also helped me, providing gentle movement with full supervision.
I think both my baby and I will get used to this training later. With a happy feeling, the first thing I did when I got to my room was take out my phone to call my mother again.
"Hello Lily, could you connect my call to my mother again? I want to apologize to her." I begged Lily.
"Daniella, you know I'm working right now?" That's why I pleaded with her; I knew the considerable distance between work and home would make Lily hesitate to agree to my request.
"But I really can't wait for you to come home from work. I keep thinking about my mother and wanting to apologize because I couldn't accept the reality of my father's past and instead yelled at her. I want to apologize right away; only then will I be relieved." I pleaded with Lily again, and then I heard her rough sigh.
"Come on, Lily. You're the only one who can help me. Besides, you are the owner of your workplace; you are free to come and go."
"But that doesn't mean I can be careless in my work. I don't want my employees to take after their incompetent and lazy superiors. But alright, I'll go for a bit to see my mother. I'll call you again later, okay?" I'm grateful that Lily is willing to help me; I don't know how many times this is.
The phone call was cut off, so I put my phone on the bed while I went to the bathroom to clean up after practicing earlier.
After I finished showering, Lily still hadn't called me. Even though I was afraid Dylan would suddenly come home and snatch the phone, I was desperately hiding so I could stay connected with people at home.
I paced back and forth, waiting for my phone to ring. And a few moments later, my phone did ring. My mother's voice sounded again, and I knew she would cry again with her trembling voice.
"Mom, I want to apologize. Everyone has a past, and I should have known that Dad must have had a reason for his choices back then." I remained silent, waiting for my mother's response.
"Your father will always forgive you; he started working as a mafia member because he was adopted by a pair of mafia bosses. Dad had no choice but to continue the business. Only after meeting me and my pregnant daughter did he feel afraid and ashamed if his daughter asked what her father did for a living. And Dad gave up everything for the title of a good and perfect father." Mother explained at length.
"I should be grateful. Dad really got a good image in front of his daughter, just as he hoped," I said.
"Mom is grateful that you're willing to open your heart and accept your father's old job. Because most of what you've achieved is also the result of your father's work back then. Mom can't lie; some of Dad's company was bought and started being funded while Dad was still a mafia boss." Mother spoke honestly, but now I'm much more open to accepting everything.
"I believe my father is a good person. His intention to quit is for good reason, and all his work is certainly done with good intentions. Thank you for telling me everything, Mom."
"You're welcome, my dear Daniella. Mom always worries if you know your father's job, if your friends know your father's job, so we keep it as a memory of your father's mischievousness when he was a teenager." I can't help but smile; the most important thing is my father's change now.
"But Mom, is there anything left of all Dad's data from when he was in the mafia?" I asked.
"Oh, I didn't know. Do you need it?"
"Yes, this is it. I'm planning something big. I hope you will trust me too. If I become an evil woman, I just want my mother to know that her daughter only wants to seek justice for her deceased father." I warned my mother and told her the core and purpose of my being here.
"Mom will always be at the forefront to support you." I almost cried. It turns out life is too heavy for our family, and this vicious cycle can't be broken so easily just because Dad wants a perfect image in his daughter's eyes.
While I was engrossed in a conversation with my mother, I suddenly heard the door open. "Madam! Madam!" It was Anne's voice. I didn't mind if Anne saw me using my phone, so I didn't rush to end the call with my mother.
"If that's the case, I should hang up the phone. I hope you are always healthy." I'm hanging up the phone now, and as I turn around, I see Anne with someone who surprises me.
"You've been caught, darling." Dylan snatched my phone and slammed it on the floor.
