Chapter 84: So Many Questions
Chapter 84: So Many Questions
Damian Black's POV:
"Come on now," I spoke in an instructive manner to Andre as I turned to walk inside the plane. "We will discuss the rest of this while we are in flight."
"Yes, boss," Andre said as he followed me inside.
The flight attendant who was standing there just inside the entrance of the plane made sure to bow over in a submissive manner at my presence. I couldn't help it as a smirk appeared across my lips in a pleasing manner. I even looked back over my shoulder, noticing that she stayed that way till I passed her.
When I walked through the narrow hallway to where I knew Nadine was hopefully waiting patiently, a thought came to the forefront of my mind. I chuckled lightly to myself as I pondered this thought a bit. It had everything to do with my previous thought. Patience? I asked myself, as I stood there in the entryway for a moment, looking over at Nadine, who didn't see me just yet.
I don't think Nadine had a patient bone in her entire body. Even in her little finger. She never showed those kinds of signs when we grew up together. That was all due to how she was brought up. I'm most sure of it. I stood there a moment longer, continuing to let this thought linger.
Money came easy to families like ours. She always had stuff handed to her even in her younger years. Germaine saw to it that her needs were always met to one point or another. Granted, she didn't get everything that she wanted, with the majority of the stuff she had access to. Top-of-the-line name-brand things were at the top of that list.
However, as I made my way to my seat, another thought came to mind, as I would need to get back to the topic at hand. I knew I would need to get a chance to finish discussing business, and that by doing so, all without Nadine overhearing me. The question is how and when that would actually come about.
Anything I had to discuss, no matter the topic, the last thing I wanted was for her to overhear it and think she needed to chime in. Women always seem to have an opinion about something. It didn't matter what was being discussed. I thought a bit about this, and I knew that when it came to my matters dealing with business, I didn't care, nor did I want to have a woman's opinion about such things.
I was fully capable of developing my own thoughts about what was to come, and I most certainly didn't need Nadine's help in any area I considered one of my pristine areas of expertise. Running things is what I did best. I knew how to gather pertinent information and use it to achieve a positive outcome.
As I finally took my seat, I agreed with my thoughts. That's precisely what I did before I came back to the States. I ran things that helped the business that I was soon to take over. And the last thing I wanted Nadine to do was to start ranting and raving about things. One of which just so happened to be about her brother not showing up to the wedding.
"Damien," Nadine called out at that moment when I finally got situated in my seat. Andre took his seat right in front of me as he turned to face her, and I looked out the window to see we were just about ready to head out. That's when Nadine spoke again, saying something I didn't quite expect.
"Can you believe this?" She asked me in an awestruck tone.
I turned to the side and noticed that she was sitting there, still admiring the gift that she had opened a few moments before. She seemed to be pretty busy, rummaging through the bag with her hand, admiring exactly how many pockets were inside and how many nonsensical items she could carry in that thing.
I continued to sit there, and then turned my gaze back to the open cabin window, knowing with her initial comment that she most certainly wasn't done with what she had to say. So me speaking now wouldn't do me any good.
"It has so many pockets!" She added, still just as stunned at what she held in her hands. "I might even get my stuff lost in how deep this goes."
Upon hearing that precise comment, I couldn't help it as I glanced over at her out of the side of my eye and noticed that she spoke without even looking at me. Her arm was still elbow-deep inside the bag as she still felt around, trying to figure out exactly how deep that particular shoulder bag went.
"I know," I spoke as my voice was still set at the same unwavering tone, showing that I wasn't all that amused, but for her sake, I acknowledged her. Then I thought it was appropriate to add, "I was the one who got it for you."
"You what?" Nadine asked as she furrowed her brows and then looked up at me for a moment before pulling her arm out of her bag. She even changed the expression on her face as she gave me a questionable look when she asked, "You were?"
Was that actually shock I heard in the tone of her voice? Could she not believe that I would do such a thing? I was a bit irritated, so I turned to look back towards the open window.
"I 'were' what?" I asked, hoping that she would translate her thoughts into actual words.
When I spoke this time, I did so all without bothering to look over at her, as my gaze was solely set on what was going on outside my window. Andre, on the other hand, was leaning to one side as his chin was firmly resting on top of his fist. I could see out of the corner of my eye that his eyes were solely focused on Nadine.
I could definitely tell from his expression that he was baffled by her constant barrage of questions. It was at that point that I reached up and scratched the bridge of my nose.
"That you were the one who actually went out and picked out this designer shoulder bag for me?" She asked fully this time.
I couldn't believe her stupidity and arrogance. I could most definitely tell that she didn't seem very thankful that I could do such a thing.
