Chapter 82: Take To The Skies
Chapter 82: Take To The Skies
Damian Black's POV:
To say I had a lot on my mind as the day pressed on wouldn't quite cover it. However, I made sure Nadine was right there in front of me as I closely followed her up the stairs to my private jet, so we could soon take to the skies. The last thing I wanted was for her to slip in her heels and take an unexpected tumble back down the stairs on the first day of her honeymoon.
Just as I was about halfway up the stairs, I took in a deep breath at that moment. At that time, I took a long look around at all my men bustling about. They were all doing their part. Some were loading luggage into the storage compartment beneath the plane, while others were gathering items to be carried into the fuselage. Then others were tending to other tasks for the return flight home.
Despite the fact that I was here in this moment, I couldn't shake one particular thought that kept pressing in on my mind. It was a rather serious situation I was going to have to deal with in one way or another. One that I wished I could deal with elsewhere entirely, but if I didn't give Nadine this trip, I knew her. She would not stop complaining about a ruined wedding night venture.
As I was about to reach the top step, I recalled the conversation inquiring about Dr. Guzmin's status from the issues that arose late last night. I knew he was doing his part by working for me, and by that, he was tending to the needs of the three foolish individuals whom I had brought to him last night. The next thing I would need to know is about Kelly Anne's status as well.
As I thought about that a bit further, I managed to reach the top step of the airstairs. Suddenly, there was a brisk wind gust that nearly made Nadine's shirt fly up and show everyone in the hangar a show of what she was wearing underneath her dress. I didn't believe my men would have stayed to look, but I wasn't taking the chance. I reached forward and grabbed her, yanking her body back into mine.
"Damian!" Nadine shouted as she thought she was going to fall.
"I have you," I spoke deep into her ear, and that caused her to slowly turn her head to the side so he could look up at me.
She was panting with a swift pace, trying to calm herself down. Now, I knew all of my men were looking this way, but I wouldn't give them the satisfaction of looking in their direction.
"Go ahead and get yourself settled inside. I take it there won't be any wind gusts inside the cabin," I told her when I finally relaxed my grip on her waist.
She was blushing, even under all her makeup, I could tell. It was her eye that gave it away.
"All right," she spoke as she took the few steps inside and out of sight. However, just as I was about to talk to the pilot, she poked her head back around the corner and asked, "Did you make sure to bring my carry-on?"
I was doing my best to keep my cool as I sighed that I couldn't get a moment's peace before the flight.
"I will have either Andrew or Mathis bring it to you shortly," I told her right as I turned back to face her when I added, "For now, I have a gift for you just inside there. Why don't you go ahead and check it out?"
"What?" She exclaimed, turning to look back inside as she had yet to let go of the side of the cabinet she was holding onto. Then, in an excited tone, she added. "You actually got me something? A gift?! What is it?"
Was it so hard to believe that I wanted to get my wife a gift? She was now my wife after all. She may have been my sister for a short time, but I never considered her as such, for I knew exactly what her father had in store for me when the time came.
"You just have to go inside and figure that out for yourself," I responded to her sudden and constant line of questions. "I'm not going to spoil the anticipation by giving it away."
"Okay then," Nadine said as she finally disappeared around the side of the cabinet and into the main cabin.
I took a deep breath inside a moment just as Andre was coming up the stairs. I turned to look at him for a moment as we both turned to look at the pilot.
"I wanted to bring a bit of news to you, Mr. Black," the pilot addressed me.
"Is this bit of news going to complicate the flight plan?" I asked him, as I wasn't exactly sure what a pilot would need to tell me before the trip other than that.
"There is a potential storm located just off the coast that we might encounter," the pilot responded in a low tone so as not to disturb Nadine, who I could hear was tearing the wrapping on the box just inside. "I wanted to inform you that we may need to deviate to avoid it. However, for the remainder of the flight, everything else appears to be proceeding according to the flight plan as you have instructed."
"Do as you must," I said as he nodded his head to me, before saluting me once more and then disappearing into the cockpit.
The copilot followed him, along with one of the flight attendants. She always made sure the pilots' needs were tended to, and I understood why. I made sure that my pilots and copilots who flew for me had an assortment of beverages or snacks at the ready for when they needed something.
"Boss," Andre finally spoke, and it was just the two of us sitting there close to the top of the stairs. He didn't say anything until I turned to face him. "We heard from Dr. Guzmin."
"Yes?" I asked with intensity as I furrowed my brows and crossed my arms in front of my chest. "What did you find out?"
I could tell he was a bit reluctant to want to bring me this bit of news. He immediately broke eye contact with me as he looked down at Matthew, who was standing at the base of the airstairs. What now?!
