Chapter 4: What To Say?
**Kelly Anne's POV:**
There was so much going on in my mind, I didn't know what to say, or do, for that fact. Should I just go along with all this?! Here I was, rescued by some random stranger, not at all sure what to do with myself. What am I supposed to say in a moment like this? Do moments like this actually happen in real life? Like, are you ever placed on the verge of a life or death situation, where lo and behold, here comes your Knight in Shining Armor?! What reality am I living in? Some kind of fairy tale!?! Is that even a possibility? I mean, could that be what this guy is considered?
I could not make out much of anything with a clear view as I looked around me. Everything was still extremely blurry. Hell, at that time, I could still barely even open my eyes as my head felt like it was going to explode. I wished I could see what he looked like, as his face was right above mine, but I couldn't see his face. All I saw was a tan blur with dark or black-colored hair. A question I cannot help but ask myself was whether his face would be as sexy as the sound of his voice.
He held me in his arms and was delicate about how he did it as he walked back to his vehicle. I was so close to his chest that I could hear the beating of his heart. Or, was that my own heart beating uncontrollably?! Get a grip girl, I tried to tell myself. This is just a side effect of the morphine. I must have been hallucinating right now.
He took a step up before he sat down on the seat and scooted over, still delicately holding me in his arms. I was embarrassed right then as I knew the truth about something. I am not what you would consider to be a skinny thing. I had some insulation on me, or, at least, that's what I consider it to be called. I did not like to use the word overweight. Shane would call me that all the time. Whenever he thought of insulting me, which was practically every day. I could even be eating a salad, and he would still use that particular word in a condescending phrase.
"Let's go," said the husky voice as I heard the door close.
I heard another door open and close before the vehicle took off down the road. As we bounced along, I got the urge to adjust my position. Somehow, I didn't think he was all that comfortable with my crushing his lap. Why was I concerned about how he was feeling? I was the one in pain here, hurting all over. When I thought about it, how was I going to manage to move freely as he was holding me tightly against his stone-hard chest?
I was even afraid to lie my head against his shoulder. Despite that, I tried to keep my right arm pinned to my midsection as the strap was digging into my neck when they were not traveling at relaxed speeds. Hitting one such bump jolted me a bit and I winced silently with the pain.
Where were they taking me? When I looked around, I noticed a darker interior with seriously tinted windows. Why are the windows that dark? Were they somehow afraid of the light? He's not a vampire, is he?! How? He got out to carry me to the vehicle so that wouldn't make sense, right?
I needed a distraction. He smelled so good, and I was *so close* to him that I tried not to make it obvious as I took in a slow and deep breath. All of a sudden, the bones in my chest screamed out in pain at how deep I took in that breath. I immediately started to cough, as my sternum felt like it was going to split in two with the force I used.
He leaned forward, gently pressing his lips against the edge of my ear as he whispered in his deep husky voice again, "Gentle now, gentle. We will be there shortly."
I'm not exactly sure what happened, but it's like my coughing just instantly stopped at the sound of his voice. There was this sort of deep ring that went along with it. I felt it in my side as I was pressed up against him, the echoing as he spoke resonating through me. What is going on with me? Why did my body just react to his, his voice the way it did!? Or, was it the fact that he was right outside my ear? I could feel his breath on the side of my head, but why is my body reacting in a manner I have never felt before?
I know I was formerly in an arranged marriage. I didn't like the guy from the start, but I did the best I could for my mother. She has since passed away, but before that, she married another man, one who I couldn't stand to be around. I'm not exactly sure why, but the guy gave me the creeps anytime I was around him. It was like he was wicked or something. I don't know, but I've learned to trust my gut.
"We are almost there," he said softly, whispering next to my ear again.
I'm not exactly sure, but once we pulled in past a large set of gates, we weren't going nearly as fast. Does that mean we're safe now?!
"Why am I here?" I whispered, hoping it would not cause me to cough again.
"Do you not remember?" He inquired promptly. I could tell by the sound of his words that he was looking down at me. I only wished I could see his face more clearly. "You fell outside the hospital we were driving past. You were almost run over by my vehicle. To be honest, you seem as if you need a good, steady, strong, and supportive hand to help you. Your wounds look like they need mending as you have some unattended scrapes from your fall as well."
Is it me or did this guy talk like he was from another time? At that point, I could feel my cheeks flushing bright red. I immediately looked away from his powerful gaze, which I knew was still on me. I'm not sure how, but I felt a sudden rush, deep in my chest. It seemed to draw me closer to him, or at least, I thought it wanted to. I didn't understand why.
Here I was, trying to get divorced from my asshole of an ex-husband, and I was lying in the arms of another man. What would Shane say if she saw me now? At that thought, I got a sudden chill that ran down my spine and I shivered as a result.
"Gentle now," he said as the door next to him opened abruptly.
"Boss, is everything alright?" I heard a different, deep accented voice ask him.
"We had a little, delay," Jasper said to this new voice as he turned his body to face him.
"It looks like she's been through Hell," said the same voice.
"That's what I'm about to change," Jasper responded, but this time when he spoke, he used a deeper, more harsh-sounding tone. Now, why would he change the sound of his voice, almost vengeful? It's almost as if he was angered at the mere sight of me.
"Did I somehow do something wrong?" I whispered, frightened at his sudden change in mood.
"Not at all, love. It's the one who did this to you that has another thing coming."
