Chapter 258: How Is He Doing That?
Chapter 258: How Is He Doing That?
Kelly Anne's POV:
I continued to lie there across Jasper's lap as he held me against his stone-hard chest. I even tucked my toes under the edge of his covers that had been pulled back as I rolled onto my back slightly, pulling my head away from hearing Jasper's heartbeat. This entire time, Jasper still had his finger lightly pressed against the front of my lips so that I wouldn't say anything just yet. Instinctively, I pressed my lips into a fine line as Jasper managed to pull his finger away and turned his hand over when he grazed the back side of his fingers against the soft skin of my cheek.
"I want you to know,... that I know more about this than you might think," Jasper told me, still speaking in a soft-hearted tone.
"How can you know as much as you think?" I asked, as my tone suggested I was questioning his knowledge base of this, but I didn't care.
All I cared about was doing anything I could to better protect him and his men. As I looked up at him, I even took it a step further when I narrowed my eyebrows, hoping he would see the seriousness I was trying to display that I didn't think he would understand Shane from my point of view, whether he had the ability to read my thoughts or not. As far as I was concerned, you don't fully grasp the situation unless you've actually been there. Somebody explaining something doesn't quite cover the situation they are trying to describe.
"I know you don't like me to talk about my ex, but after what happened earlier on our way to dinner, I'm afraid he's going to do something drastic," I told Jasper in that instance, trying to drive my point home. "The last thing I want is for you or your men to be hurt on my account. Hell, you were already shot because of me!"
"I know you have been tormented throughout your life, Meine Liebe," Jasper said, his voice still just as soft as he continued to speak to me using that same reassuring tone. "Nothing I can do can change the past. All I can do is let you know that I will be here for the rest of your life, as long as you will have me."
"How can you think I don't want that?!" I asked without even thinking about it first, and my tone let it slip that he would even bring up such a thought. "Are you thinking that you don't want to be with me anymore?! Have I somehow done something that would make you say it like that?!"
I was letting my thoughts run wild, and at this point, I don't know if I could stop them. I knew that I took one thing that Jasper told me, and I let it get to me, somehow thinking that my thoughts were right this entire time, and that he didn't want to keep me around. The question is for how much longer. What was I going to do without Jasper? Shane would kill me if he had the chance. Hell, he shot Jasper no sooner than he called my name. When I looked back up at Jasper, all he did was smirk at me.
"You were waiting for such an opportunity like that, I know it," Jasper said, continuing to smirk in my direction as he even added a light chuckle this time.
"What do you mean by that exactly? What are you trying to say?" I asked as I attempted to cross my one arm in front of my chest, as my other arm was placed around the back of Jasper's lower back, and I even tightened my grip.
In a way, it's as if my grip tightened on him so that I wouldn't lose everything that I had to hold dear. Jasper meant everything to me. With him, as much as I knew, having the ability to read my thoughts and all, I would've hoped that he would've come to that conclusion by now. Why would he have said such a thing if he knew how I felt about him?
Then again, did something happen while I was out of it? Did his thoughts somehow change that I was unaware of? Honestly, it's not like I had the ability to read his thoughts. I don't know how much more of this I could take, somehow thinking that Jasper didn't want anything to do with me. I pray I am wrong!
"Are you insinuating that I was looking for an opportunity to say such a thing? Wait, I didn't say anything at all," I said out loud as I finally broke eye contact with Jasper and turned to look away from him as I looked around the room.
I was shocked to say the least. Everything just a moment ago, I thought within my head. I didn't say anything out loud, and Jasper's comment wouldn't have made sense unless he knew that. So, unless he actually read the thoughts that I thought the moment I thought them, this whole discussion wouldn't even be necessary.
How was he able to do that? I still had no idea how Jasper had the ability to read my thoughts. At times, it was great. I will give him that much credit where credit is due and when it is due. But in this particular instance, whenever he makes a statement like that, according to something that I thought previously, without even having to say anything, it was really starting to get on my nerves. And that was only cause I didn't exactly understand how he managed to even do that in the first place.
It's not like we were living in a fairytale. As if he somehow had a special ability that I had yet to be made aware of. Sure, that would be it. I even laughed to myself lightly as I glanced over at Jasper, seeing that he was still smirking at me, in the same sexy smirk that I loved so much about him.
I turned away again as I continued to ponder this particular thought at the moment. That would be the day. Jasper has some special and uncanny ability to be able to read my thoughts, but there's more to it than that. In this realization, the smile on my face died as I pressed my lips into a fine line. Then, I slowly turned back to look at Jasper, who was still smirking at me. Even his eyes were swirling around, letting me know that he was thinking nothing other than compassionate and loving thoughts about me. He was so mysterious, and I didn't understand how.
All Jasper did was chuckle at me as he continued to smirk in my general direction when I asked him, "Are you still reading my thoughts? How are you able to do that?"
"Shall we stay on topic?" Jasper asked, completely dismissing the fact that I had asked him a previous question. "To help put your mind at rest, I don't want to live without you, not now, not ever, alright?"
