Chapter 246: Will I Ever Be Free?

Chapter 246: Will I Ever Be Free?
Kelly Anne's POV:

Why did his voice sound distant? That didn't make any sense. Why did Shane's voice, coming from the back of my mind, somehow seem as if the sound were distant this time? Did that mean that he would finally be leaving me alone? No, how could I even remotely think that something like that would even be possible? I guess a better question would be, is this? Will I ever be free of him? That is a very good question.

How could I ever have thought that after leaving my marriage, somehow it would work out in my favor? I mean, could it actually work? Or was it just a fool's attempt to be free? Hell, anyone, for that fact, who has tried to leave any sort of abusive situation, will they ever be truly free of their abuser in total reality? I really don't know if that's possible, though, if I think it through fully. Every time I think of how things were, even when Shane wasn't even home.

The memories,... I know the memories can have an uncanny ability to stir up feelings deep within me. Feelings that are buried deep within my mind, taunting me. Even without my control, these particular feelings seem to take hold and run my body, making me think thoughts I never wish I could. In the distance, as I was still surrounded by this black shrouded cloud, I could hear Shane laughing.

"I will forever be here, you belong to me!" I could hear Shane taunting me in the distance.

Why did the sound of his voice sound so far away? Usually, he would be right up close whenever he continued to taunt me. What changed? It was at that exact moment I knew. I knew I would never fully be rid of him. Is this something that I needed to accept? Would that ever change? The last thing I wanted to do was think about something and have Shane read my mind, knowing my thoughts. I didn't want him to know where I had been. I wanted to do anything to protect those who have cared for me. I just wanted to be rid of him, once and for all!

There, as I floated in the black shrouded cloud, I closed my eyes once more, trying to block Shane out completely. I bet the attempt would be futile, but I attempted it nonetheless. Shane was nothing but vile and wicked. Everything that was wrong with the world, Shane thrived on. Why did you have to be so mean? What is wrong with you to want to hurt people all the time? It's like Shane got off on putting others down in an attempt to make himself feel better. What was the point? Were you just that heartless? I knew Shane was. There was no doubt in my mind.

Just then, something changed. It was strange, really. All of a sudden, it felt like I was surrounded by a warm blanket. But this blanket flowed like an invisible aura of power. It almost seemed as if I was surrounded by it. How could that be? It didn't make sense. What exactly could it be? It appeared as if it started to move like waves, flowing all on its own, but it didn't fully envelop me as it moved around me. It reached all the way up to my neck and stopped just below my ears. It was a calming, yet warming sensation.

This was different. I didn't want to end, but let's be real here. That's not the way my life worked. Just because I thought something was good for me didn't mean it would take hold completely in my life. That alone brought to mind a thought right then. Why was it that whenever I would be surrounded by this black shrouded cloud, I would feel things or have the ability to say things towards Shane and have absolutely no idea where exactly it came from.

There was so much about this black shrouded cloud that I didn't understand. When I did look around, there was nothing around me. The only thing that I could see was me. Hell, I could feel Shane on occasion, whenever he would reach out and grab me or push me as he has done on numerous occasions. One such time was when he shoved me. I even felt it when he was somehow able to hurt my shoulder in such a way that I felt pain originating there. That was new, as he, even when I was stuck here, was never able to hurt me in that way before.

At first, in the back of my mind, I thought it might be a heart attack or something. He did say to my last dying breath. Shane wasn't one to throw out empty threats. He always had the notion to back them up, one way or another. But then, the more I thought about it, I wasn't exhibiting the usual or normal signs of having a heart attack.

I didn't have shortness of breath as far as I could tell. And I was still fully conscious of everything that was going on. Yes, the pain was rather intense for a short moment, but even then, I knew it wasn't that. How did I know? What part of me knew that I wasn't having a heart attack, considering it was on my left side? Well, more or less, my left shoulder.

Just then, the warming sensation that had previously surrounded me was gone all of a sudden. How could that be? Where did it go? What was happening to my actual body if I was somehow stuck in the deepest part of my mind? Who had me? What were they doing to me if that was the case?

Is that what happened when people were unconscious? That they would somehow be trapped within the deepest part of their mind and were unable to find their way out? Well, if that was the case, I certainly didn't want to be here anymore. Nothing good came from being trapped in this black, shrouded cloud. Especially where Shane came from. He was the only thing I seemed to find in this black, shrouded cloud.

Suddenly, I thought I heard something. Wait, is someone calling me? Someone was calling my name right now, even as I made sure my eyes were still closed. I had to listen, intently listen. I needed to figure out exactly who it was that was calling my name. No, wait, they're not saying my actual name. What is it that they were saying? I knew I had heard that phrase before, but I didn't know who spoke it to me. How could I forget?!

I can't believe that I was so lost in the deepest part of my mind that I was having a hard time finding my way out. I didn't want this to be the end. I didn't want it to be over. Who rescued me from the time I tried to get away before? Who was it? I can't possibly forget... him, can I?

"Meine Liebe, can you hear me?"
