Chapter 241: Not Your Preferred Exit Method...
Chapter 241: Not Your Preferred Exit Method...
Jasper's POV:
"Easy fellas, my shoulder may burn a bit, but that doesn't mean I'm hit, does it?" I asked them as I turned to look down at my right shoulder.
We continued our conversations in German. I was shocked, to say the least, by all this. Did I really get shot and somehow not even realize it? I've heard of being caught up in the heat of a battle scene before and not having any idea that you were even remotely injured until the adrenaline rush wears off, so it was quite possible. I turned back around to see the concerned looks on my men's faces. My one backup guard, stationed behind me, reached forward with a handkerchief and began pressing it to the back side of my shoulder, trying to assess the seriousness of the injury.
"How bad is your pain?" Miles called out to me this time when I turned back to look at him, knowing he was probably worse off than I was. "Does it hurt more, or would you consider it to be nothing other than a dull pain?"
"Well, it's rather mild considering the circumstances of me bleeding from the back side of my shoulder," I told him as I turned back to look at him and then over to his wound, which cut clean through both his suit jacket and the sleeve of his shirt. "You seemed to take the worst of it and all, as the glass cut all the way through the layers of your clothing down to your skin. I would say you should be hurting worse than I am at the moment."
"You don't usually get injured, though. That is our job, Boss," Stefan added his comment right then.
"True. However, according to our current predicament, I will let this one injury slide, all right? So, you are off the hook for this one. " I spoke up this time when I turned back to look at him, before turning back to look out the front window, knowing we were nearing The Hochburg now. I then turned to the side so I could get a look at the front of my shoulder when I added, "I don't think any of us saw him till it was too late. Now, just to make sure, let me maneuver her just a bit so I can get a better look."
The more I looked at it, the more I started to notice something was a bit off. If I were indeed injured, I knew I would need to move Kelly Anne off my shoulder so I could get a better look at the front side of my shoulder. She was still out of it for the most part, as she still didn't wake up at all during all of this. Before, she would have woken up by now and asked what it was that we were saying. She always made an account to say something when we were talking in German around her.
However, this entire time, she still had yet to wake up, and that was starting to concern me even more. I narrowed my brows as I thought more about this. All she did was lie there with her head resting on the front side of my shoulder. For the most part, her breathing seemed to be somewhat normal, but considering the situation we had just left, I would chalk it up to that for now. The first thing I needed to do was pull my arm out from under her. I moved her head slightly so she could rest her head on the side of the window seal. That way, I could move her into a better position.
It was at that exact moment that my eyes widened when I saw something I didn't expect. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. When she rolled her head back, it revealed the side of her face, which had been resting on my shoulder. You could clearly see that half of her face was partially covered in blood from the front of my shoulder.
"Fuck!..." I called out as I started to scan her with my eyes, noticing all the blood from my apparent wound had soaked into the top she was wearing.
No sooner than I said my one-word shocked statement, Stefan was leaning his head between the two seats and looking at the front side of my shoulder as my arms were still supporting her. "Does that mean it was a through and through then?" Stefan asked me as he was quite concerned.
I looked down at her and carefully pulled my arm out from beneath Kelly Anne's left arm, aiming to better support her when I placed my arm under her neck instead. This allowed me to lie back slightly, giving Stefan easier access to my shoulder while I was in a more reclined position, as my other guard reached around to the side of my chair and reclined my seat just a bit. However, given her current position, this forced her lower limbs down into the floor more than I would have preferred. I didn't want her to be too uncomfortable as Stefan needed to check my shoulder.
"Where's the blood coming from?" Stefan asked when he pulled out to grab the edge of my suit jacket.
"I'm not entirely sure," I said as I leaned my head back, allowing Stefan to reach under the front edge of my suit jacket as he was checking for the source.
He quickly felt around on the front side of my shoulder, and at one point, I winced when he found my unknown and hidden injury. I turned to look up at him in shock when he noticed that I had jumped. He leaned around me even more and started to examine my suit jacket to see if there was an exit point in the suit jacket material itself. During this entire time, I couldn't believe she was still unconscious. On the other hand, as I looked her over, I couldn't believe that she had as much of my blood on her, especially on the side of her cheek, as to where she had been lying on my shoulder.
"Just rip it," I told Stefan this time as he proceeded to start to unbutton my shirt. "I don't care about the material. It's not like I'm going to save this one. I can always get more. For now, just figure out where the blood is coming from first."
I turned my head to the side as he grabbed a fistful of my shirt on either side of the buttons and jerked them apart. You could hear buttons ricocheting off the hard plastic of the interior, including the windshield. He ended up pulling my shirt apart all the way down to my pants as he leaned over me and began to examine the front side of my shoulder.
"Sure enough, it looks like an exit wound to me, Boss," Stefan said as the guard who was stationed behind me reached up with another handkerchief and placed it on the front side of my shoulder. "This is not your preferred exit method."
