Chapter 187: We Won’t Divorce

Chapter 187: We Won’t Divorce

After I said all that, Jane's expression softened.

Her tears fell one by one, wetting her face. I reached out and gently wiped them away.

"Jane, I love you. We're not getting divorced."

"Please, give me some time. I'll explain everything I've done. Whatever the Gonzalez family owes you, whatever they owe Olivia, I'll make them pay it back."

"Can we just be together? Please?"

Jane didn't respond. She pushed me away, turned around without a word, and went to the bathroom.

That night, I stayed by Jane's side the whole time. When we went to bed, I held her tight.

I was scared—terrified of losing her.

For the next few days, Jane and I stayed at the Lopez Mansion. Since she had just had a miscarriage and lost the baby, I pushed aside all my work and stayed with her, taking care of her.

Clara was doing a lot better too.

To help Jane get back to her old self sooner, Clara, old as she was, stepped in to help me out.

Early one morning, she came to keep Jane company.

Clara held Jane's hand and spoke to her with warmth and kindness.

"Jane, I know Andrew has done some things wrong and hurt you. But no matter what you decide to do, I'll always be here for you. Even if I have to give up Andrew as my grandson, I'd still choose you."

"I'm getting old. I don't want you to leave my side."

Jane had barely spoken to me those past few days, but when she heard Clara say that, she actually smiled a little.

She nodded at Clara. "Okay, Grandma. I'll stay by your side too."

Seeing Jane say that, I felt a little more at ease.

Right at that moment, Ryan called me.

Seeing that Clara and Jane were deep in conversation, I stepped aside to take the call.

Ryan reported over the phone, "Mr. Lopez, I have something to tell you. We now have all the evidence of the Gonzalez family's crimes. Just as you suspected, the car accident that killed Olivia's parents, and Olivia's death — Thea was behind all of it."

"There's even evidence that Thea was involved in the assassination attempt on you back when you graduated from college."

Hearing that, I clenched my fist.

"Alright. Then let's hand all this evidence over to the police first."

I had plenty of ways to make Thea pay on my own terms, but that would be letting her off too easy. Thea had blood on her hands. She deserved to face the full weight of the law.

"But what about Melissa?" Ryan asked, sounding a little worried. "We still have to think about her, don't we?"

Melissa and Clara had been close friends for years. They had supported each other in business for a long time and had built a deep friendship.

Thea was the wife Melissa had chosen for Thomas. If I went after Thea without warning, I'd be making an enemy of Melissa.

Ryan was worried that this might upset Clara.

I thought about it for a moment, then said to Ryan, "Thea did wrong, and she has to pay for it. As for Melissa, whether she tries to protect Thea is up to her — if she has what it takes."

"Just do it. I'll talk to Grandma."

After I hung up with Ryan, I went back to Clara's side.

Clara and Jane were chatting happily. Whatever they were talking about, Jane was smiling more than she had in days.

I sat down next to Jane and rested my hand on her shoulder. I half expected her to pull away like she had been doing, but this time she didn't.

That gave me a little hope.

"Grandma, there's something I need to tell you."

I hesitated for a moment, but decided to bring it up in front of Jane.

When Jane heard I had something to tell Clara, she started to get up to leave, like she usually would. I put my arm around her and kept her close.

"You're my wife," I said. "That makes you part of the Lopez family. There's nothing about Lopez family business that needs to be kept from you. You can stay and listen."

Hearing that, Clara smiled even more. She gave me a satisfied nod.

Jane hesitated, then sat back down.

Clara smiled and asked, "Andrew, what is it?"

"Grandma, I've been looking into the Gonzalez family for a while now. All the evidence points to Thea being behind the car accident back then — she killed Olivia's parents."

"And that assassination attempt on me — the real target was Olivia. So Olivia's death is on Thea's hands too."

"I've already sent Ryan to the authorities. Thea is going to face a trial."

What I said made Clara's expression turn serious.

Bloody power struggles between wealthy families were nothing new. But Thea — a woman who seemed so calm and composed on the surface — no one could have imagined she had the blood of her own family on her hands.

Clara said coldly, "If she has family blood on her hands, she deserves to pay for it. Go ahead, Andrew."

Clara was behind me.

I voiced my concern. "But Grandma, what about Melissa? She's getting on in years. I'm worried that going after the Gonzalez family might damage your friendship with her."

Clara waved her hand, unbothered.

"If she wants to protect Thea, then our friendship ends there," she said.

"She may be willing to let Thea hurt her own children, grandchildren, and family. But I will never allow anyone to hurt mine."

"Jane's miscarriage was Thea's doing too. Even if Melissa wanted to shield Thea, that's just not going to happen."

"Andrew, go ahead. Do what you need to do."

Clara was getting on in years, but her eyes were steady and firm as she gave me her word.

That was all I needed to hear.

Thea would face the law, no question about it. But Nancy and Katherine — that was a different story.

I had my own way of making Nancy and Katherine pay for what they'd done.

That evening, Jane was heading back to her room to sleep. I grabbed her coat and said, "Come on. I'm taking you somewhere."

"Where?" Jane looked surprised.

I just smiled and said nothing, pulling her close. "To watch a little show."

With a puzzled look on her face, Jane let me take her to the same house where Katherine had held her captive.

The familiar place came into view, and Jane's body gave a small shudder.

She gripped my hand and asked, "Why did you bring me here?"
