Chapter 75 - The Unforgiving Luna

Hazel's Pov.

I let out a shaky breath, my eyes taking in the bloody sight and my brain processing it, realizing what I had just done.

"I-Is he dead...?" Ryan asked, peering down at him.

I shifted back to my human form, my hands shaking and lips trembling as I thought about what to do from here.

Ryan turned away from me when I shifted and I hastily removed the maid's cloth for myself.

"Let's leave here before the others comes back"

I was done and we were about to leave when I remembered something.

"The key. We need the key" I quickly went back to search Grayson while trying to avoid the ugly sight of him laying like that, almost seeming lifeless.

Thankfully, I found it without much stress and I stood up to leave but someone grabbed my arms at that moment.

It was Grayson.

His eyes opened sharply as he held on tight to me while I struggled to get him off me.

I could hear sizzling sounds that was the sign of his chest wound getting healed.

He wasn't dead?

"Let go of me!!!" I screamed and Ryan hurried over, hitting him hard on the face until he released me.

I stood up again, ready to run out but Ryan didn't seem to be done. He grabbed a knife again and approached Grayson who was still healing himself at a rapid speed.

"I thought of how unfair it was for you to die this way. You deserve the most horrible death one has ever seen. You deserve to suffer!!!" Ryan charged towards him and I just watched.

I could feel his rage, the pain and emotions he had bottled in all this years. His desire for revenge. To kill this man but I wasn't about to let my little brother have blood on his hands.

It could hunt him forever.

At the last moment, I stepped in front of Ryan in time for him to stop.

"What the hell are you doing? I could've stabbed you just now!" His brows furrowed in a deep frown "He killed our family, Freya. Why are you stopping me? You know he deserves this"

"He deserves even more but we need to leave first. The others might be here just..."

We heard a commotion just then and then Grayson's laughter, making us both freeze.

"He called them" I breathed, realizing we had no time to waste. I grabbed Ryan's hands, going out of the Kitchen and hiding behind a pillar just in time as several men passed by.

This time, it was not the maids.

The moment they all entered the room, I ran for it, closing and locking the door just before they realized I wasn't in there. At least that would buy us time.

"The entrance" Ryan said, looking around.

"Don't worry, I already memorized the layout of this place"

He gave me a nod, following behind me while ignoring the banging on the door.

They'll break it in no time and Grayson would be up too. Shit!

I led him through a few halls until we finally got to the entrance.

I tried to unlock the door with the key but I fumbled with it as my hands were still shaking from the rush of adrenaline just now.

"I'll do it" Ryan took it from me and In no time, he got the door to open.

At first, I hadn't plan on stealing the key. Grayson coming back here was not a part of my plan so I had just figured something out to help us jump out of the window safely.

It would've been dangerous no matter how well I thought about it but it's good that we got the keys Instead.

The moment the door opened, we stepped out together and started to run.

At first I hadn't cared about my surroundings since there was no time to but the more we ran, I discovered that the area was familiar.

Deserted unlike how lively it was in the past but yeah, it was very familiar.

Ryan also noticed this too and he stopped.

"It's our house" he whispered.

"No, it's not" I said. Technically, it was just the surroundings. The house had changed completely. Both the interior and exterior.

Even if it had, seeing just the surroundings brought back memories. Maybe it was meant to distract us but I was glad I was able to snap out of it quickly.

"They'll catch up soon" I stared at the door we had just came out from, knowing it would burst open in the next second.

And it did.

We continued to run. And I noticed how Ryan stayed behind me when he could run faster.

"What are you doing?" I called out over the wind.

"I'm going to protect you from now, Freya. I haven't had the chance"

I looked away from him, not knowing whether to laugh or maybe cry "This is not the time to say that"

"Grab a stone" Ryan suddenly said.

"Huh?"

"Grab a stone now"

I did as he said and we continued to run.

"Throw it if they ever come near enough"

The cold night air whipped against my skin as I sprinted through the darkened forest along with Ryan, passing trees at lightening speed, blindly, without a sense of direction but that wasn't something we could worry about as of this moment.

All we were focused on was losing the group of men chasing us.

Fear and adrenaline coursed through my veins whenever I would think about what would happen if we don't make it tonight. If we we taken back to Grayson then it was as good as a death sentence.

He will definitely make us pay.

The thought kept me going, pushing me forward, away from the danger that lurked behind. I rushed a glance over my shoulder, catching glimpses of the menacing figures chasing after me. Their coordinated yet relaxed footsteps sent shivers down my spine.

How could they be so calm when they were catching up quickly?

How was it possible for them?

My mind raced, desperately trying to think of an escape route. We needed to find a place to hide.

A place where they wouldn't find us. I will never let them take us back. They can have me but there's no way I'll let them have Ryan a second time.

He was the close related family I had now. I wasn't so lonely afterall.

My eyes glowed with excitement when I noticed we were about to leave the forest and go into the main road.

I exchanged glances with Ryan and he knew what that meant.

Our pursuers were close enough when I looked again but Grayson was nowhere in sight. I guess he hadn't completely healed yet.

It was time to throw our stones and we did at once without warning.

I threw two stones and it landed on the head of the tragets perfectly.

This would distract them for a bit and we used that to our advantage, doubling our speed and getting into the main road.

It was dark and no cars around but we didn't mind that.

As long as there would be a place to hide for the rest of the night.
