I could see them in the crowd of prisoners; Fanny Luis, Morgan Harris and Thomas Jackson.
I continued at a firm remarkable tone, “I was sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment after my boss, Morgan Harris accused me of siphoning fifteen billion dollars from Community Central Bank. At the time I never knew this day would come. But I had often told myself that once I become rich and powerful, I would ensure I free prisoners because no human being is supposed to remain in prison…”
Morgan Harris still had his gaze on the ground. Warm tears were already trickling down his cheeks and Fanny had noticed it.
Thomas swallowed hard and gazed upon Morgan, “You are all tears. Soon I will join you because this is a lost course. The person you intend to beg for our freedom is already recalling horrible memories. I don’t need to tell you Mike Don is going to cancel Christmas on our ass today.”
Morgan sniffed heavily while Fanny swallowed hard and stroked his hair.
My trumpeting voice continued to sound across the prison yard , “Ladies and gentle men, I have been granted the supreme power to set free at least, five prisoners every month.”
The crowd of prisoners booed and clapped in unimaginable way. The excitement was second to none and soon they started singing praise of me.
I raised my hands and gestured at them to calm down, “The inmates that shall be set free every month will be hired by my prestigious company, The Saint Don Group and paid the sum of fifty thousand dollars as salary per month…”
“Mike Don! Mike Don! Mike Don!” the entire prisoners opened a thunderous chant and in a jiffy, the whole prison yard was filled with boisterous clamor and shout of joy.
Their joy knew no bound and soon they turned to clapping and whistling.
I raised my hands firmly and urged them to quieten down and as soon as they obeyed I continued, “I am Mike Don the world richest man. Anything I promise must be fulfilled to the latter. Today I have come to bring my words to pass. We can’t continue to have congested prison yard. It is a sign of poverty and an opportunity for prisoners to go. Whether you are guilty of a crime or not, Mike Don has come to set you free…”
Once again the prisoners opened a sonorous, maddening chant of my name and praises, “Mike Don is the man of the moment! You belong to us! We need none other!
“What a man!” Thomas Jackson intoned and sighed, “I just wish the ground will open so I can fall into it and not behold this moment with my eyes. Mike Don is a perfect picture of all I have ever wished for myself. This is so much power for one man.”
Fanny Luis dabbed his eyes of the tears that surged, sniffed and sounded, “Vengeance clouds his eyes. The Mike Don I see doesn’t look like somebody that will forgive us and free us. Our horrible days just begun.”
“No,” Morgan doubted and snorted. “There is hope. Mike Don will listen to us, despites recalling horrible memories of what we did to him. This is the time we must be optimistic and embrace freedom.”
They listened on as I continued swiftly, “In my hands are compiled names and inmates number of the five prisoners that shall be set free today. They will return to the society with me and promptly they will be granted automatic job as security and protocol officers at the Saint Don Group.”
There was hush silence that hung over the crowd of prisoners as the waited with bated breath for the pronouncement of the chosen five prisoners.
I could see Fanny, Morgan and Thomas with a couple of other prisoners having their arms on their chest as I make my pronouncement, “The following prisoners with inmates number will be set free today” I sounded and lowered my gaze on the enlisted names, “Paul Stanley, inmate number 001233, John Mark with inmate number 001244, Shred Beevers with inmate number 001245, Carl Lee with inmate number 001266 and Lyon Havey with inmate number 001222.”
Already heavy clamor of joy had taken over the place; the inmates I just mentioned let loosed and shouted at the tops of their lungs, while other inmates celebrated them.
The moment was epic; a couple of other prisoners clamored to have a hand shake with me while others demanded for my autograph and selfie photo. And because these were my people, I dared to satisfy them as much as I could.
The moment I instructed my band of security to let them come to me, Morgan Harris , Fanny Luis and Thomas Jackson ran to my side, pulled done on their knees and molded their arms to plead.
“Oh Mike Don,” Morgan was the first to plead, “We have learnt our lessons. In our next lives, we would never look down on the poor and rubbish them because we feel they are vulnerable. Today you have the supreme power to set free prisoners, please may we find a favor of you…”
I snorted, settled my gaze on him and replied, “Mrogan Harris. You will never have a next life. Today is another day of reckoning. I have not come for any of you. You never knew this day would come; a day I would become so rich and powerful that the world would be in my pocket. I am sorry to disappoint your ass. The three of you will remain in prison and watch other prisoners being set free.”
I groaned and about stepping away, Fanny called, “My son-in-law, please Mike Don…” his lips trembled and his white knuckles reddened with scare.
“What did I just hear you call me? Me? Your son-in-law? Hell no! It would have been so but you ruined it, you never wanted me to be your son-in-law because I was ragged, poor and an ex convict. To you, I was a total nuisance. But today I tell you the entire world can’t spend all my money. You shall perish in prison, Fanny Luis!” I threatened and shot a furious gaze at Thomas, who kept shut the moment he caught my thunderous gaze.
Soon prison inmates flooded me, demanding for my autograph and photo shoot.
“We are ruined,” Morgan said to Fanny and Thomas.
More money and power loomed on…
