Morgan Harris was heaved with thought; suddenly his eyes became watery and red. He only could wonder how a boy he once hired as his delivery boy became so rich and powerful that Rio Hondo granted me the supreme power to free prisoners. He expected greatness from me but not this kind of power. He couldn’t believe it when the chief warden mentioned and about now he was yet to believe that his once ragged delivery boy had grown so rich and powerful that Mr. President granted me such power.
“Mike Don! Jupiter’s brain!” Morgan exclaimed in shock and stared in the space thoughtfully, “How did he become so powerful that Mr. President granted him the supreme power to free prisoners?” he queried through gritted teeth and clicked his fingers furiously before cupping his jaw.
Fanny hummed and folded his arms, “I am as confused as you, Morgan. I am hugely pained that this rich boy, this Croesus was once my son-in-law. Who would believe that the world richest man, Mike Don who is celebrated and loved all over the world was once my son-in-law, huh?” his face pulled with regret and shame.
Thomas Jackson sounded with a reserved grin on his face, “Sounds very ironical, gentle men. We have erred against Mike Don. We have divorced him, as son-in-law, rubbished and accused him of fraud as a boss, challenged him as a tycoon.” He shot a frown at them and fought back the urge to wail. We all have underrated Mike Don, and today he has the supreme power to free prisoners, I don’t think he is going to free us…”
Morgan interjected him with a sigh, “Oh come on, I know Mike Don very well. Don’t forget he was my delivery boy at the Morgan Group,” he squeezed into his orange jumpsuit and buttoned up, before adding, “I strongly believe Mike Don will set us free today. He has a heart of gold and forgives easily.”
Fanny hummed and lowered his gaze to ponder over Morgan’s notion. He tossed his head in disapproval, “I don’t think so, guys. Mike Don is not going to set us free, not with the horrendous things I did to him.” He heaved a deep breath, “I don’t think you both know what I did to Mike when he was my son-in law. The world richest man will never set me free even if he sets you both free…”
Morgan disapproved it with a nod and patted Fanny Luis on the shoulders, “Be of good cheer. Today we shall be free. I will dare to plead with Mike Don to set us free,” He breathed uneasily, “I am damn tired of this prison. i know we underrated him and did all sorts to him but to err is human and to forgive is divine…”
Thomas Jackson countered with a hiss, “No Morgan , I don’t think you can be able to meet with Mike Don. Do you know how powerful and wealthy Mike Don is today? We are talking about the world richest man and not a man like us. That mogul moves around with the best security and protocol officers. It is very much difficult to meet Mike Don now…”
Fanny was starved of words. He pulled back in the bed and watched them bicker over me.
Morgan stamped his feet on the floor in doubt, “No, I don’t believe you, Thomas. I know Mike Don is a big name all over the world today, yet I promise to penetrate his security and beg him to free us. You will see it happen. This is the only opportunity for us to be free and leave this prison. Did you hear the prison warden? Mike Don will be setting free five prisoners every month.
Fanny cut in, with his gaze still in the space, “That is really supreme power if you ask me.” he snorted, tiny frames of tears were beginning to leak into his eyes, “Why don’t we wait and see…”
He was yet speaking when a familiar voice sounded from outside their cell, “All inmates must assemble at the arena now. The world richest man is on his way to the prison!” That was the voice of one of the prison wardens.
“It is time, gentle men,” Morgan sounded through pounding heart and restless thought.
Fanny grinned.
Morgan shook his head in fear. There was something about his heartbeat and he wished he could waive the magic wand and stop this moment from coming into reality. Although he had agreed to beg me to free them yet he wondered what my reaction could be.
In a couple of minutes, the arena was filled with prisoners in their orange jumpsuit. With their gaze raised, they waved at me and chanted as my private jet hovered overhead.
Once we landed, my security hurriedly stood out and ensured the prisoners that wanted to touch me were restricted. The media and paparazzi shot flashes of camera light on me as I walked down the staircase of my jet.
I waved, all smiles and with fulfillment in my head. As this would be the first time, I would be addressing prisoners. I really waited for this day to come because I was once a prisoner, and setting them free was a dream come true.
“Ladies and gentle men, join me with a clapping ovation as we make welcome a rare mogul and the world richest man, in the person of Mike Don,” that was the sonorous voice of the Chief Warden.
I matched out with my well-suited security flanked behind me. I cleared my voice in the microphone, “Patiently I have waited for this day to come, a day when I will set free prisoners, hire them as my staff and add meaning to their lives. You may be surprised at my decision. But I would want you to know that I was once a prisoner…”
Once I said that, Morgan Harris lowered his gaze in shame and tossed his head in regret, because he knew I was going to mention his name, since he was the one that sent me to prison fifteen years ago…
