Chapter 39 The ‘Biological Parents’ Come Knocking

Chapter 39 The ‘Biological Parents’ Come Knocking

Mary had just received a call from the unscrupulous doctor at the research institute, who had given her a severe scolding.

The unscrupulous doctor kept emphasizing that Olivia was someone they couldn't afford to mess with.

Originally, Mary hadn't been too worried about it.

After all, she had personally pulled Olivia back from the brink of death. She had given Olivia a second life—she was practically like a parent to her!

No matter what, Olivia couldn't possibly hurt her.

But right after hanging up the phone, as Mary was bending down to pick up the child who was pretending to be sick, Olivia's shadow fell over her.

When she turned and saw the determination in Olivia's eyes, Mary finally panicked.

"Wait! You can't hurt me. I saved you. I gave you a second chance at life! You can't..."

Mary wanted to keep talking, but Olivia cut her off.

"You picked me out of the trash can and called a doctor that same night.

I wasn't unconscious at the time. I clearly heard you agree to meet again in half a month.

You probably wanted to wait until I was dying and then sell me, right?"

Olivia had pieced everything together over the past few days.

What kindness in saving her—it was all just to make money off her.

If it weren't for Olivia's incredible ability to recover—being able to get out of bed in three days, with all physical abnormalities gone in a week, even playing around foolishly with the other kids at the orphanage—she probably wouldn't have lived this long.

Seeing that Olivia had guessed everything exactly right, Mary looked even more frightened.

Olivia didn't give her any chance to make excuses. With one slap, she killed her and buried her in the garden as fertilizer.

Using such an evil person as fertilizer should count as doing good, right? She was still too kind.

Olivia had thought the media would leave her alone after she applied to college, but she didn't expect that because of her high popularity and becoming a topic of casual conversation for many people, the media paid even more attention to her.

After all, traffic is king.

Some media outlets portrayed her as a genius who could solve calculus problems at age three.

Others kept taking secret photos of her, even claiming that because Olivia was too smart and cautious, these photos were all taken remotely from a neighboring city using high-tech equipment.

Still other media outlets portrayed her as the second coming of the grassroots success story from "Homeless to Harvard."

City A.

Inside a slum in the western part of the city.

Robert Williams and Doris Williams sat on the edge of their bed, chewing on cold, hard bread while watching an old TV with poor signal reception that they had just retrieved from a trash can.

Then, they noticed Olivia's image on the screen.

Early morning.

Olivia spent a large sum of money to completely renovate the orphanage.

Looking at the ordinary-looking new building with fully equipped facilities inside, Olivia smiled faintly.

Just as she was about to go in, a man and a woman suddenly appeared beside her, nearly throwing themselves at her.

Olivia frowned and dodged.

But the two stumbled and lunged at her again, crying out as they did:

"My poor daughter, your mom and dad made you suffer. We've finally found you."

Not only that, but the media that had previously disappeared from around Olivia swarmed back, with camera flashes going off constantly.

Olivia frowned, looking extremely impatient.

This man and woman were Robert and Doris.

Seeing Olivia's impatient expression, the two immediately acted like children who had done something wrong, frantically explaining to her:

"We lost you right after you were born. We've been looking for you all these years. We've spent all our savings on it."

"But don't worry, we absolutely won't be a burden to you.

We know you applied to college. If you get in, we'll sell everything we have to support your education."

The couple played off each other, speaking so movingly that it would make anyone who heard it sad and anyone who saw it cry.

Even many reporters were quietly wiping away tears.

Only the person in question, Olivia, remained expressionless throughout.

"Do you have any proof?"

When Olivia escaped from Organization X, she had destroyed all her files.

At that time, she had specifically read through all the materials.

She had indeed been sent to Organization X right after birth.

As for whether it was her biological parents who sent her or someone else, that was unknown.

This couple had indeed gotten some facts right, but when Olivia observed their micro-expressions, she discovered they were lying.

This was very interesting.

Seeing Olivia questioning their identity, the two hurried to explain, pulling out baby clothes and describing how well-behaved Olivia was as a newborn. The surrounding reporters were somewhat moved.

But Olivia's expression remained indifferent.

The couple exchanged glances and immediately changed tactics.

Doris cried heartbreakingly, her whole body shaking, nearly passing out.

"Child, I know you've suffered all these years. It's only right that you blame us."

Robert's tears flowed freely:

"Your mother and I just miss you so much. We just want to hug you and hold you."

Seeing that Olivia still wasn't moved, Doris gritted her teeth and swore to the heavens:

"Your father and I aren't doing well right now, but we're absolutely not here to ask for your help.

We really just hope you're doing well. I swear!"

The reporters who had been recording the whole time all noticed something was off about Olivia's reaction.

Shouldn't a normal orphan who finds their parents cry tears of joy and have a heartwarming family reunion?

Why did Olivia have such an indifferent attitude?

The reporters began to voice their doubts one after another.

"Olivia, your parents have said all this, and you won't even give them a hug?"

"Colleges don't just look at grades. Aren't you afraid we'll expose how you treat your parents?"

Olivia frowned and looked at the indignant reporter:

"If I randomly found two people on the street and said they were your parents, told you to accept them, and threatened to expose you if you didn't, would you accept them?"

That reporter became even more angry:

"You're twisting the argument! Look how much you resemble them!"

How did they resemble each other?

Because they all had two eyes and one nose?

Olivia couldn't help but roll her eyes. She didn't bother with him anymore and instead asked the couple again for proof.

Doris exchanged a glance with her husband, bit her lip, and said seriously:

"We really aren't trying to trick you. How about this—let's go do a paternity test right now, okay?"

That would be perfect. Olivia also wanted to know what this couple was hiding.
