Chapter 100 Side Story. Chapter 7
"Is there something on your mind?" Dexter asked, breaking the silence.

Maya glanced at him before hurriedly shaking her head. "No, why?"

"You seem quiet today. That's unlike you." Dexter muttered and stiffened. Even though it's been a while since they've done this, Dexter still remembered how they used to be on walks. She let out a sigh at that.

"Let's have a seat." She suggested and they immediately found an empty bench where they sat, watching the sun go down in the horizon. Scooting closer to him, Maya placed her head on his shoulders and he soon began to caress it.

"What's going on?" He asked again and she but her lips, worried.

"Aren't you worried, Dexter?" She finally began and Dexter glanced at her, a brow raised.

"Worried about what?"

"That I'm yet to carry your child?" She inquired.

"And why would I be worried about that?" He asked.

"It's been a while since we married, I should be with your child by now."

"It's only been a year Maya. A year and a few months to be exact. Things like that take a while." He answered her.

"It's just... It's just I'm a little worried that I may not be able to carry one for you." She whispered, her voice shaking in the end.

"You will maya. I have absolute faith that you will." Dexter said, turning her so she could look at him. "Forget what happened in the past. We had no control over those events. Not anymore... I won't let those things occur anymore. You will carry my heir, Maya."

His reassurance made tears spring in her eyes and she chuckled, sniffing. Giving him a watery smile, she tried to blink it back.

"There, that smile is back." He muttered as she cleaned off a stray tear that ran down her cheeks.

"Why do you have to be so loveable?" She whispered and he smiled, his silver eyes twinkling.

"You're welcome." He muttered, kissing her.

By the gods, but she couldn't wait to carry a child for the this man. It would be the best day of her life.

She just knew it.

King Dexter noticed the subtle changes in his beloved Queen, Maya before she did. Her radiant smile seemed to hold an extra sparkle, and a certain glow enveloped her complexion. Deep down, Devon suspected what this meant, but he decided to wait for the right moment before confirming his suspicions.

One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of crimson and gold, Maya began to feel an unusual sick. Concern etched itself onto Devon's face as he watched her pale slightly. Without wasting another moment, he called for the royal doctor, his voice laced with urgency.

Within minutes, the royal physician arrived at their private chambers, carrying an air of calm expertise. His eyes, filled with wisdom and compassion, quickly assessed the Queen's condition. After a thorough examination, he nodded with certainty, his voice gentle yet brimming with joy as he delivered the long-awaited news.

"Your Majesty, congratulations are in order," the doctor announced, a warm smile gracing his lips. "You are with child."

Maya's breath hitched as the words settled into her heart, mingling with a profound sense of awe. Her eyes welled up with tears of joy, shimmering like precious gems in the soft candlelight. She instinctively turned towards Devon, who stood beside her, his face a reflection of uncontainable happiness.

"What did you say?" She repeated, her face shining with joy.

"You are pregnant, your majesty." The physician repeated, a small smile on his face.

Devon's heart soared as he witnessed the emotions washing over Maya. The love that bloomed within him since the day they first met now expanded, embracing the hope of new life. Gently cradling Maya's delicate face in his hands, he leaned in, their lips meeting in a tender, celebratory kiss. It was a testament to their love, a promise sealed by their shared joy.

Whispers of excitement soon danced through the palace, carried on the winds of eager tongues. News of Maya's pregnancy spread like wildfire, igniting a spark of elation within every servant, courtier, and member of the royal staff. Hushed conversations filled the corridors, and smiles blossomed on the faces of those fortunate enough to be part of this special moment.

As the palace embraced the impending arrival of the royal heir, Devon recognized the importance of safeguarding their child's future. Memories of the kingdom's recent ordeal, when they faced a relentless attack from their enemies, lingered like a shadow in his mind. He vowed to protect their family and ensure the safety of their child, sparing no effort in fortifying their defenses.

Taking Maya's hands in his, Devon drew her close, their eyes locked in an unspoken understanding. "My Queen," he began, his voice filled with both tenderness and determination, "we shall not allow the darkness of the past to overshadow the light that is our future. I will take every precaution necessary to safeguard our child, our kingdom, and our love."

Maya nodded, her eyes shining with unwavering trust in her husband. She knew that Devon's commitment to their family's well-being would be unwavering. It was a shared responsibility, a testament to their united front in the face of adversity.

That night, as the moon rose high above the palace, casting a silvery glow over the land, Devon found solace in the peaceful confines of Maya's chambers. The air was imbued with a sense of anticipation and an aura of profound love. With reverence, he rested his hand upon Maya's burgeoning belly, feeling the gentle movements within.

"Hey there, little one," Devon whispered, his voice laced with awe and adoration, " Thank you for coming into our lives. You are already so loved. We await your arrival with hearts brimming with hope and dreams. Know that you will be cherished beyond measure, and our kingdom will be your safe haven."

Maya listened, her heart swelling with an overwhelming mix of emotions. She marveled at the depth of Devon's love and the magnitude of the responsibility they now shared. Her hand gently caressed her belly, feeling the fluttering of life within. She imagined tiny fingers and tiny toes, innocent eyes that would one day gaze upon their world.

Tears of gratitude filled Maya's eyes as she turned to Devon. "My King, my love," she said softly, "Already bonding?" She asked playfully, even as tears filled her eyes.

Devon's eyes shimmered with unshed tears, his heart overflowing with tenderness. He cupped Maya's face in his hands, his gaze filled with unwavering devotion. "You are the embodiment of strength and grace, my Queen," he whispered. "I promise you, with every fiber of my being, that I will protect both you and our child with my life. No harm shall befall our family."
