Chapter 86 Give Him a Fright (Part 2)
Aidan's words left Alison with no way out. He was dead set on having her go with him.
"Alright, fine." The thought of being alone with Aidan made Alison's mind race. She kept her head down, staring at Aidan's injured leg in the wheelchair. Could she really keep this relationship going?
But if she didn't, how would she explain what happened that night?
Just then, Jack piped up, "Hey bro, your leg's still messed up. How about Aimée and I tag along? She loves shopping and can help you pick out stuff."
Aidan's face lit up with a smile. Alison couldn't tell if he liked Jack's suggestion or not, but she heard him say, "That's a good idea. Go ahead and ask Aimée. We'll all leave from the hotel together."
Alison listened to the brothers' plan with a headache. There were still several days before they returned home. If they went out and came back together every day, it would be unbearable.
But Alison said nothing. She could only agree for now.
It was clear Jack was set on pairing her up with Aidan.
Every time she saw Jack now, she couldn't help but feel irritated. Aidan's leg wasn't fully healed yet. Fine, she'd just consider it taking care of a patient. But once they were back home, she planned to stay far away from Aidan, or she'd go crazy.
Feeling down, she walked back to her room. After a shower, she lazily lay on the bed watching TV.
But as she watched, she couldn't help but cry.
Do people in love have to go through hardships to be together?
If they were already together, why did they have to part in life and death?
Everyone dies eventually, but why did it have to be two people so deeply in love?
She silently cried, her tears blurring her vision until she couldn't even see the TV screen. But she couldn't stop, the tears kept flowing.
The end credits flashed by, and it was all over. She finally saw the ending, but felt an immense sense of loss and sadness.
She wiped her tears with her hand, crying her heart out.
Just then, the door quietly opened.
A figure leaned against the wall, silently watching her for a long time.
A light blue handkerchief suddenly appeared in front of Alison.
In her daze, it felt like a dream. Without thinking, Alison took the handkerchief, wiping her eyes while wondering if her heart could ever be as clear as a mirror.
If it was true love, she just wanted to stand hand in hand with her beloved, lean into his arms, and say, "I love you..."
She wiped her tears and nose, her mind filled with the images of the TV show's main characters. If there really was a heaven, she would wish them a long and happy life there.
She was still sobbing, but her face was a bit cleaner now. Just then, the handkerchief was suddenly pulled away.
Alison instinctively looked up and saw the bed dip slightly. A tall, familiar figure was sitting in front of her. "Do all girls get so wrapped up in those TV dramas?"
Oh no, she hadn't even noticed when Jack came in.
"So what if I do?" She knew the stories on TV and in books were fictional, not real, but she still liked watching them, even if they made her cry.
It was a feeling she couldn't explain. She often cried while reading books too. But it had been a long time since she felt this relaxed. For the past three years, her mind had been on her two kids. Only in the past couple of nights had she found time to watch a TV show.
"You're so silly. You know it's fake, but you still get so into it," Jack said.
"I want to," she retorted.
"But you look so ugly when you cry. I regret coming in," he teased.
"Give me the key card!" She reached out to him, annoyed. When had she invited him in? She had asked for the key card back so many times, but he just wouldn't return it.
"I'll give it back when we leave Paris," he said.
"And then I'll have to return it to the hotel? You're such a jerk." She swung her fists at him. She didn't understand what he was up to, but his sudden intrusion made her uneasy.
"Alison, I think you have a talent for acting. How about I recommend you become an actress? Other actors need chili water to cry, but you don't. You naturally love to cry," he said, dodging her punches and winking at her.
He was teasing her again. So annoying. But his face, and that unique scent of his, made her unable to resist. "I cry, so what? It's not like I'm bothering you. Why are you so annoying? And how did you sneak into my room again?"
"Sneak in? I walked in openly to check on your leg," he said. He didn't know why, but he couldn't sleep, tossing and turning in bed. Suddenly, he wanted to come chat with her. When he came in, he saw her crying her eyes out. "You look terrible."
"Terrible?" Her mind was still on the TV show's plot, and she didn't react immediately.
"Yeah, you look terrible right now."
"So what if I do? I'm not your girlfriend. As long as Aimée doesn't look terrible, it's fine," she snapped, feeling he was being a bit of a jerk for sneaking in.
"Me and Aimée aren't what you think," he said, looking into her eyes. It felt natural to speak his mind, almost like he wanted to confess something.
That intense gaze made Alison's heart skip a beat. "Jack, you... you don't have feelings for me, do you?" She asked, both to herself and to him. She really wanted to know the answer, so she could move on.
A hand touched Alison's forehead. "Hey, Alison, are you out of your mind? How could I be interested in my brother's girl? I don't lack women, and besides, you're too flat. Stop dreaming. I just couldn't sleep and wanted to chat. But I'm glad I came, or I wouldn't have seen your amazing crying scene."
