Chapter 85 Give Him a Fright (Part 1)
She sighed softly. He probably thought she cared a lot about Aidan.
Fine, let him think that. Even she couldn't explain it herself that night. "Alright, I'll go."
"Goodnight." He didn't say more. Tonight, he had done so much for her, more than he had ever done for any other woman, except for that woman—Emily, the one he both longed to remember and feared to recall.
"Goodnight." This time, he really left.
But as the door closed, she suddenly realized that the room key was still in his hand.
She'd have to get it back from him tomorrow, or she wouldn't feel safe in this room. She was really afraid that while she was sleeping soundly, he might suddenly come in, pull back her covers, and see the scar on her chest...
Stop thinking about it. The more she thought, the more worried she became.
She seemed to have gotten used to this feeling of going from heaven to hell and back again. That night, she slept deeply and soundly.
In her dream, he was gently tending to her wound.
She just hoped he wouldn't see her as a substitute for that woman; she hoped he could remember her goodness, not hate...
Her thoughts were a mess, tangled and confusing. She always found it hard to let go, hard to decide.
In the end, she went, simply because she couldn't let go. She didn't want to attract his attention, just wanted to quietly stay by his side and watch him, and that was enough.
Mr. Bates had an assistant; they were two people. But Jack was handling the main details of this business deal all by himself.
When Alison quietly walked over, everyone was engrossed in their conversation, and it seemed no one noticed her. She stood silently behind Jack, once again feeling his presence, her heart still fluttering.
Jack didn't turn around, didn't even glance to the side, but suddenly said to her, "Miss Fairchild, please go back to the hotel and get a document for me."
"Ah!" She was startled by his sudden voice. He hadn't turned around, so how did he know she was there?
Jack ignored her, pulled a key card from his briefcase, and handed it to her. "This is my room key. Go to the table by the TV, open the second drawer, and bring me the documents inside. I need them within half an hour."
"Oh, okay." Alison took the key card, feeling its weight as if it was pressing down on her hand. Going to his room felt a bit strange.
Mr. Bates kept smiling at her, a smile with an indescribable meaning, but she didn't have time to think about it because Jack added, "Hurry up, I need those documents in half an hour."
Half an hour? Oh my God, she'd have to run.
Her leg still hurt, but luckily it was just a surface wound. He had already treated it last night, and though it still hurt, it was much better.
She really started running, afraid she wouldn't make it back in time.
But as soon as she took a step, her arm was suddenly grabbed. "Alison, is your leg okay?"
Hey, he was just rushing her, and now he was pretending to care about her leg. Her leg was hurt because of him!
"It's fine, it's fine. I'll go get it."
As soon as he let go, she took the opportunity to break free, but he suddenly leaned in and whispered in her ear, "Don't rush, there's enough time. After you get off the elevator, go to the parking lot and take my car back. There's a driver, just tell him where to go."
He was so close that she could smell his cologne, and it made her head spin. She could only nod, unable to do anything else.
Alison didn't dare run anymore, afraid that Jack might get close to her again, a feeling that scared her.
Taking his car back to the hotel was much faster than hailing a cab. She bypassed her and Aidan's room and opened Jack's door. After a short hallway, she reached the bedroom. The room was filled with books and documents, neatly arranged in four large stacks.
Alison glanced around and finally understood why Jack was so composed during negotiations. He had done so much preparation.
Did he even sleep?
She opened the drawer and found a stack of budget documents for the project.
No wonder he didn't trust anyone else to hand them over to her. Was this a sign of his trust in her?
She couldn't figure out his mind, only knowing that he always wanted to push her towards Aidan.
Then why did he show her such tenderness last night, only to mess with her again?
She pulled herself together and hurried back to his Lamborghini. The short drive should be just enough time.
She handed the documents to Jack, who took them without even looking at her and continued discussing with Mr. Bates. Alison sat to the side, continuing her work from the previous day, recording their conversation.
For three days, it was the same routine. Aimée didn't show up, and Jack was polite, taking her out and bringing her back each day. She got used to saying goodnight to them every night.
She seemed to have gotten used to this strange triangle relationship.
But tomorrow, she and Jack would finally be free. Once Aidan signed the papers, it would all be over.
"Second brother, this is the agreement Mr. Bates and I drafted. Take a look. If everything's fine, we can sign it officially tomorrow afternoon."
"Jack, I've reviewed the negotiation details and Alison's notes. Everything seems thorough. I'll review the agreement tonight, and if there are any issues, we can make changes in the morning. You can inform Mr. Bates that we'll sign the agreement tomorrow afternoon. After that, we can all take a break, including myself. I've been cooped up in this room for too long. The day after tomorrow, I want to go shopping with Alison."
Aidan said it casually but subtly excluded Jack. He wanted to spend time alone with Alison, didn't he?
It was inevitable.
She really didn't want to go, especially not with Aidan. "Aidan, I just want to sleep in the day after tomorrow."
"Alison, if you're tired, you don't have to attend the signing ceremony tomorrow. Just rest in your room. The day after tomorrow, I want to buy some things for the chairman and my mom. My leg isn't convenient, so I need you to push me."
