"I Dumped You Once—We're Even"

"I Dumped You Once—We're Even"
"Take me to the XXXX District." Alison decided to go home after all.
"OK, let's go there first, then drop me off at XXX," Caden said casually, leaning back comfortably in his seat with an easygoing air. His gaze fell on Alison's face. "Actually, I think you should go to the police station and ask around. Maybe everything will become clear. Why stay here, stewing in your frustration? Maybe he didn't do anything—maybe you're just overreacting."
"Hey, do you recognize that car behind us? It looks like it's following us," the driver said.
Alison jerked her head around and saw a royal blue Lamborghini tailing the taxi and honking its horn.
She leaned forward and asked the driver, "Sir, could you help me shake off that car?"
Jack actually had the nerve to come after her.
Just thinking about how he ditched her by the road to meet up with another woman made her furious.
Now that something had happened to Gwendolyn, had he suddenly remembered her again?
Alison suddenly felt that perhaps she was nothing more than a substitute for Gwendolyn.
"Ma'am, look at this car..." The driver shook his head.
His beat-up taxi was worth only a few thousand dollars, not even a fraction of the value of that Lamborghini.
Given the car's performance, there was no way he could shake it off.
"Red light up ahead. Move over—I'll take it." Caden suddenly perked up and shifted to the center of the backseat.
He settled in, his gaze fixed straight ahead as he waited for the driver to pull over so he could switch seats.
"I don't think that's a good idea. What if my car…"
"No matter how severe the damage is, I'll buy you a brand-new car," Caden said without hesitation.
Alison turned to him and wanted to ask why he was helping her so much.
But she held back.
The red light came on.
The two began switching seats.
The interior was low and cramped, making it difficult to move around.
Fortunately, by the time the sixty seconds were up, Caden was mostly settled in.
He slammed his foot on the gas pedal, and the taxi shot forward.
He was driving fast, and a Lamborghini was hot on his heels.
The two cars raced neck and neck.
As they continued driving and came to a stop at another red light, Caden's expression shifted. "His car's gone."
Alison glanced back and saw that the Lamborghini that had been right behind the taxi was nowhere to be seen.
Just as the three were all caught off guard, the Lamborghini in the farthest lane suddenly accelerated and shot out of the intersection.
The light turned green.
By the time Caden snapped out of his daze, the Lamborghini had cut diagonally in front of the taxi, coming to a smooth stop and blocking its path.
At that spacious intersection, Jack opened his car door.
His tall, slender figure slowly approached the taxi, exuding an air of nobility and aloofness with each step.
Reaching the car, he casually tapped her window with his fingertip and said, "Get out."
Although the car's soundproofing was excellent, his lip movements were clear enough to make it impossible to ignore him.
Seeing that he appeared to be in his usual state, Alison sighed in relief.
Then a wave of irritation welled up inside her.
She rolled down the window and sneered. "Mr. Winston, have you forgotten? You're the one who dumped me."
Traffic was flowing back and forth at the intersection, yet Jack's Lamborghini and the taxi were sitting in the middle of the road, ignoring the honking horns around them.
Just as she thought he would fly into a rage, he said softly, "Alison, don't be silly."
"Caden, back up." She didn't want to confront Jack here, nor did she want to prolong this—she just wanted to go home.
Caden rolled down his window and smiled. "Mr. Winston, I've heard a lot about you. I concede defeat on that last race. How about we switch to the same model car and race again?"
It was clearly a challenge.
Jack gave Caden a dismissive glance. "Executive Director of Maple Leaf Global Group and the illegitimate son of Whitaker's second son—Caden, are you that bored?"
Alison was taken aback.
She hadn't expected Jack to know so much about Caden's background.
Hearing the words "illegitimate son," Caden paused for a moment.
"Actually, I'm pretty free today," he replied.
"Free enough to try to seduce my wife?" Jack looked down at Caden from above; the two men's auras radiated an intense presence.
"So what if I am?" Caden smiled nonchalantly, looking as if he had really come to seduce Alison.
Alison was going crazy; her mind was in turmoil.
"Jack, you're turning the tables on me!" she said furiously.
She hadn't confronted him about Gwendolyn yet, and he'd already pinned the blame on her.
Clearly, Caden was no pushover either.
Ignoring her, Jack stared at Caden.
"Too bad you didn't succeed in seducing her. She just saw you as a driver, sending you to bring her here to see me. Mr. Whitaker, don't flatter yourself. Are you going to open the car door for my woman, or should I?"
Alison's gaze fell on Caden's face, who didn't show the slightest sign of nervousness.
He turned to the driver standing nearby and said, "I'll get you a new one to replace this, OK?"
The driver nodded. "Whatever you say, sir."
