Chapter 356: Truly Unbelieving (Part 1)
“Sure, it’s been ages since we’ve shared a drink,” Matthew said.
Instead of taking the glass Pierre offered him, he reached straight for the glass in front of Pierre instead.
“Cheers!” He raised it and downed it in one gulp.
An old fox indeed — still cautious as ever.
After emptying his glass, Pierre turned it upside down and said, “Dad, another round.”
Matthew chuckled inwardly, secretly wishing Pierre would drink more.
The drunker his son became, the safer this night would be.
As he drank, he watched Alison admiringly — Compared with Emily, Alison’s eyes were keener, her mind far steadier.
They were truly Daphne Green’s daughters — their resemblance so uncanny it unsettled him.
He clenched his fists instinctively.
Daphne Green… I will destroy your daughters’ lives, no matter what.
However, Pierre intended to use this opportunity to eliminate either Matthew or his trusted lieutenant, Gabriel.
He cast a casual glance at Alison’s slender waist — the very weakness that could break Gabriel.
Alison set down her knife and fork, feeling uneasy.
Gabriel must be arriving soon.
Glancing around, she saw that Matthew and Pierre remained locked in confrontation.
The glint of the pistols at their waists made the tension almost unbearable.
Finally, dinner ended.
Pierre pushed her toward the sofa.
The father and son conversed in apparent harmony, while Alison occasionally chimed in just to break the suffocating silence.
Finally, Pierre answered a call from his subordinate.
“Is he here yet?”
“All right, bring him in,” he instructed calmly.
The front door creaked open, and a cold breeze swept through, sending a chill up Alison’s spine.
Back to the door, Alison could sense Gabriel right behind her.
His familiar soapberry fragrance lingered, and she drew in a shaky breath.
“Sir.” His voice came from nearby.
“Gabriel, sit down,” Matthew said.
Gabriel had saved his life two months prior, shielding Matthew from a bullet.
“Sir, I heard you were here and rushed over,” Gabriel said.
Then he turned to Pierre. “Pierre, I apologize for the abrupt visit.”
“It’s fine. But what urgent matter brought you here so suddenly?” Pierre said, pretending innocence. “Dad, am I breaking your rules?”
“Haha, not at all. It’s no secret. I simply sent Gabriel to YD to investigate something. He might already have the results,” Matthew replied.
“Sir, I’ve identified who sent you that message,” Gabriel nodded, addressing Matthew.
“Go ahead. I never intended to keep this from Pierre anyway.”
“All right. It should be Manager Foster from YD’s HR department. I checked everyone who accessed the YD server room during that time.”
Gabriel spoke crisply, then moved to stand beside Matthew like his shadow.
Confused, yet somehow relieved, Alison exhaled quietly.
Manager Foster… wait… is she the one who tampered with me at Rebel?
She couldn’t figure out why Manager Foster would frame her.
When Gabriel revealed the answer, she and Matthew both refused to believe it.
“It really was her?” Matthew asked.
“Yes, she was the only one who entered the YD server room that day.”
Matthew frowned, clearly deep in thought.
After a moment, he pressed, “Do you have a photo of her?”
“Yes,” Gabriel said, opening his briefcase and pulling out a stack of pictures.
Alison caught a glimpse and froze — the top photo was her own face.
Her face flushed instantly. She hadn’t expected the photos to be developed.
Suddenly, Aidan’s warning screamed in her mind.
Panic seized her; she leaped up from her wheelchair and rushed straight toward Matthew.
Ignoring the injury on her legs, she reached out to grab the photos.
“Did you post these photos online?” she demanded.
