Chapter 309: I Will Definitely Agree (Part 2)
“Alright,” Alison said reluctantly. She didn’t want to see Isabella — the matter with Aimée was still a deep wound in her heart.
“Alison, Grandfather misses Ethan and Sophia. He’s mentioned it to me several times. You should bring the children back more often. Otherwise, he might consider keeping Sophia and Ethan at the ancestral home,” Aidan said, his tone carrying a hint of warning.
“All right,” she said, giving in.
“Then I’ll drive over to pick up the kids tonight, and we’ll go to the ancestral home together,” he offered firmly.
“Ok.” She had no choice but to agree; she couldn’t drive anyway.
“Aidan, I want to learn to drive,” she added suddenly.
The thought came without warning — sharp, liberating. Once she learned, she wouldn’t have to rely on others anymore. Thinking of Jack’s black Lamborghini gathering dust in the garage, she decided it was time to bring it back out.
“Why? I can drive you anywhere,” Aidan objected.
“But I really want to learn, Aidan. Please let me try,” she pleaded.
“All right, I’ll arrange it. But until you’re proficient, I’ll personally handle your commute,” he conceded.
“No, you’re so busy. I can just take taxis,” she said.
“Taking taxis isn’t as good as having a driver,” he insisted.
“No thanks. I don’t like that. Anyway, I have to go downstairs. Gabriel might already be here.” She refused.
“Go then.”
Hesitation tinged Aidan’s voice as he caught the light in her eyes — that unmistakable spark of longing.
If she really falls for Gabriel, then…
“Alison, wait.” He called out instinctively, wanting to give her a warning.
“Hmm?” Alison turned back and looked at Aidan with confusion. “What is it, Aidan?”
He said seriously, “Alison, you’d be better off keeping your distance. Gabriel has quite a history. He’s been in prison three times. After his last release, he joined the Polar Bear Alliance. I worry… you might get hurt.”
She smiled faintly and said, “It won’t happen. Gabriel isn’t a bad person. He probably had no choice back then.”
He urgently grabbed her hand. “Alison, come with me, you’ll understand then.”
Then he pulled her toward the stairs.
“Where are you taking me?” she asked, puzzled.
“To my office,” Aidan murmured.
His chest ached — she’d taken his heart and handed it, unknowingly, to another man right before his eyes.
“What for?” The tension in his tone made her pulse quicken uneasily.
“To show you something,” he replied.
Ever since that trip to Logan Mountain, he’d had Gabriel’s background checked.
He walked quickly, gripping her hand tightly as he dragged her into his office. Then, with a sharp shove, he slammed the office door shut, sealing them off from the outside world.
“Aidan, what are you doing?” Alison felt even more panicked.
His grip was so tight that it made her wrists ache unbearably.
Aidan pulled her toward the sofa and forced her to sit down. Then he strode to his desk, turned on the computer, and quickly printed out a document.
Moments later, he returned with a sheet of paper and handed it to her. “Read it yourself.”
Alison took the paper, puzzled. But when she saw the name Gabriel, she instantly understood.
The records showed: Gabriel, male, thirty-two years old, divorced. His criminal history was shocking — rape, robbery, and drug offenses, followed by a long list of prior convictions.
Good heavens! Is he truly a bad person?
Yet she refused to believe it was true.
“Aidan, didn’t you get the wrong guy?” she asked.
“There’s a link below with all his personal details. Check it, and you’ll know yes or no,” Aidan replied irritably.
Regret flickered across his face — he never should’ve let that man anywhere near her, let alone YD.
