Chapter 269 : You’re Too Cruel

Chapter 269 : You’re Too Cruel
Alison glared at the will in the lawyer’s hand and snatched it away. Before he could react, she tore it to pieces.
As Aidan and the lawyer stared at her in shock, the paper fragments drifted down onto the bed and scattered across the sheets.

The lawyer froze. He had never encountered a woman who reacted so violently to her husband’s will.

“Miss Fairchild, Mr. Jack Winston has already transferred all his assets into your name. You…”

Alison snapped her head up. “I don’t want his things—not a single penny. Please leave.”

“But—” The lawyer was incredulous.

“No buts. Please leave now!” Alison shouted.

The lawyer insisted, “Reading the will is my duty. You can’t deprive me of my professional rights. Whether you accept Mr. Jack’s inheritance is your decision.” He opened another folder and took two cautious steps back, wary of her.

He added, “That document was only a copy. This one here is Mr. Jack’s original will.”

“Wait—Jack is dead? Did you find his body?” Alison asked.

“Miss Fairchild, please stay calm. We obtained the autopsy report and the certificate of accidental death from the police. Mr. Jack Winston has indeed passed away.”

“When and where?” she pressed.

“Early yesterday morning. He was tragically killed in a car accident on his way home. If you don’t believe me, check the police records yourself. I’m simply fulfilling Mr. Jack’s final instructions.”

“A car accident?” Alison doubted it. The scene on the yacht yesterday was still vivid in her mind.

“Yes, a car accident. Miss Fairchild, you may request an autopsy or DNA test—scientific proof of Mr. Winston’s death.”

“Enough! Get out! Show him out, Aidan!”
She was convinced Rock and Emily had staged the whole thing.

“Alison, calm down. Let me figure out what’s going on before we decide anything. Lawyer, let me see those documents,” Aidan soothed her.

The news was still too shocking for him to process.

“Mr. Winston, please promise not to damage them.”

“Rest assured, I won’t.”

Aidan took the documents. They were detailed—autopsy report, vehicle data, and more.
Then he found Jack’s suicide note — the handwriting was unmistakably Jack’s.

After reviewing everything, he returned the papers to the lawyer and remarked, “You’re remarkably efficient. Settled everything in a day. It’s as if it had all been prepared long ago, just waiting to be delivered.”

The lawyer smiled faintly. “Mr. Aidan, you flatter me. I’m merely carrying out Mr. Jack’s final wishes. I’m deeply saddened as well. Please accept my condolences.”

Alison asked, “Why didn’t the transportation department or the police notify me first — why you instead?”

The lawyer explained, “Miss Fairchild, that too was among Mr. Jack’s final wishes. He requested that the funeral be handled discreetly, without your involvement—so you would be spared further grief and your life would not be disrupted.”

Upon hearing this, Alison said quietly, “Counselor, please read it.”
She realized she shouldn’t have snapped at him.

The lawyer solemnly read the will aloud.

Alison had expected Jack to leave everything to Sophia and Ethan. But to her surprise, aside from providing her mother with a home and ample living expenses, the entire estate was bequeathed to her.

The will specifically stated that the assets could not be transferred until the children turned nine. Should Alison meet with an accident, all property would be donated to charity.
