Chapter 268: The Original Form (Part 2)

Chapter 268: The Original Form (Part 2)
“Reincarnation,” Alison murmured with a faint smile.

Aidan was uneasy. He seized Alison’s wrist abruptly suddenly and said, “Alison, calm down. No matter what happened, don’t abandon your kids. Jack might have his reasons.”

“Aidan, what did you just say?”
Alison recalled Jack’s last words before leaving — Alison, be good. Wait for me. I’ll come back…

“He’ll come back…” she murmured.

Reason flickered through her turmoil. Alison looked up at Aidan, wanting to tell him that Jack had fallen into the sea, but she stopped herself. He’d never believe it.
After all, no one had believed her so far.

“Jack truly cares about you, Alison.”

“Aidan, call a nurse for me.”

“What’s wrong?” Aidan asked, pressing the nurse call button.

“Losing my baby wasn’t Jack’s fault, was it?” She clutched his hand, panic rising in her voice.
The image of the label on that IV bottle still lingered in her mind.

Hearing her words, Aidan hesitated, then said softly, “Is this why you’ve been cold to Jack these past two weeks?”

Alison nodded.

“Silly girl,” Aidan continued. “Jack didn’t tell you because he was afraid you’d worry or get upset. That day, a fake nurse tried to switch your IV. Jack caught her just in time, but the doctor still advised ending the pregnancy.”

“What? The doctor said that?” Alison asked in shock.

“Yes. Ask the doctors and nurses —everyone here knows.”

“Stop. Enough.” Alison’s tears spilled freely. She realized how deeply she’d wronged Jack.

“Aidan, go rest. I… I’m fine now.”

“Alison, I’m not tired, and my leg is much better. I’ll be discharged soon. Thanks to Jack, I haven’t had to worry about the company these past days.”

“Do you know where Jack is?”

The question stunned Aidan. He looked at Alison blankly. “Didn’t he disappear after arguing with you?”

“No, Aidan. He—he’s dead.”

Aidan grabbed Alison’s shoulders, shouting, “Alison, what did you say? Say it again!”

Alison smiled faintly. “Jack fell into the sea,” she said, her voice eerily calm. “The water took him.”

Aidan released her. He finally understood why Alison had become this way.

He lit a cigarette and turned to the window, trying to steady his thoughts.

Just then, there was a knock at the door.

“Come in,” Alison said.

The door opened, and a man stepped inside. He examined a photo, then looked up at Alison. “May I ask if you are Miss Alison Fairchild?”

“Yes.”

“Hello, I’m Jack’s personal lawyer. I’m here to read Mr. Winston’s last will and testament.”

The will… Jack, you really never stop surprising me.
