Chapter 264: "Just Won't Believe It" (Part 2)
Night swallowed the sea.
The search operation had been ongoing for over an hour, yet still no results were found.
"Mr. Clark, it's too dark out here. Continuing like this isn't working. Maybe we should wait until dawn to see if we can find the body," one officer suggested.
Alison froze at the word. She lunged toward the officer, grabbed his collar, and growled, "No! It's impossible! Keep searching for him!"
The officer replied calmly, "Ma'am, a person can't survive in the water for one or two hours. Do you really think there's any chance he's still alive?"
His words struck her like a thunderclap and echoed in her mind.
"He was shot! I heard the gunshot! Go ask the people on that yacht—they must know!" Alison pleaded urgently.
Yet deep down, she knew the evidence had probably already been destroyed.
"Ma'am, we already searched that yacht and found nothing. The owner was hosting a party. If you don't believe us, I can take you up there now." An officer beside Clark glanced at Alison. "Maybe you misheard it."
"You... you're all in cahoots!" Alison shouted angrily.
"Miss, watch your language. Don't make verbal claims."
Officer Clark hushed, "Hold your tongue."
Then he turned to Alison. "We'll continue the search tomorrow. I hope everything was as you claim."
Then he strode toward the police car.
Alison burst into laughter, her anger boiling over at the police's lack of trust. She flung off her coat and strode toward the road.
The dim streetlight cast a pale glow on her face. She walked with purpose, her heavy footsteps echoing against the cold shoreline. "Stop!" Clark barked. "Don't go."
But Alison ignored him. She began to run desperately.
Footsteps echoed behind her as she sped up. She believed Jack was waiting for her to save him.
Just as the police were about to catch her, she leaped onto the gangway leading to the yacht.
Rows of men in sharp suits stood on either side of the gangway, resembling security guards.
She expected them to stop her, but they just let her rush aboard the yacht unimpeded.
"Jack..." she called out loudly.
"Miss, we're hosting a party. Please keep your voice down," said a waiter.
"I'm looking for Jack Winston. Could you help me?" She clung to a sliver of hope—perhaps Jack was still on the yacht.
"There's no Jack Winston on our yacht. Please leave now," the attendant urged.
"Impossible." Alison frantically scanned the area, her feet carrying her toward the railings where Jack might have fallen.
The deck was bustling with chatter. The young people were enjoying the party.
Suddenly, she thought of Jack's two assistants. Then, she pushed her way through the crowd, searching for Jack's assistants.
Her clothes were soaked, making her look disheveled. People kept their distance whenever they saw her.
Just then, the music began to drift across the deck.
Her feet moved instinctively toward the source of the music.
As she approached the piano, Alison froze.
It was Rock sitting at the piano. What shocked her even more was the girl standing beside him-- it was Emily.
She had never thought of encountering her in such circumstances.
Why were Rock and Emily together?
Alison halted, her fingers trembling.
Her teeth chattered. "You...you two..."
Ignoring her, Rock continued to play, occasionally glancing up to meet Emily's gaze.
