Chapter 244: “He’s So Handsome” (Part 1)
“Sophia, Ethan, go play over there. Mommy needs to talk to Daddy for a bit,” Alison said.
Ethan said, “Mommy, that’s not fair. Why are you only talking to Daddy?”
Alison smiled helplessly. “Because this is boring grown-up talk. You wouldn’t like it.”
“Really?” Ethan pressed.
Overwhelmed by the endless questions, Alison sighed. “Go now, or I’ll spank your little bottoms! Give Mommy and Daddy three minutes.”
She loved them dearly—but she couldn’t let them drag this out.
The two little ones reluctantly headed toward the climbing ladder.
Alison turned to Jack. “Did you ask about Aidan’s condition?”
“I called briefly,” Jack replied. “I’ll get more details upstairs in a bit.”
“Jack, please check with several hospitals. See if there’s any way to treat Aidan’s amnesia. It’s agonizing having to sneak around whenever I see the kids.”
“All right, I will,” Jack said.
“Jack, thank you,” Alison said softly.
Jack brushed a knuckle gently against her cheek. “Silly girl. We’re married—why keep your distance? Should I plan another romantic wedding just to remind you?”
Alison blushed and lowered her head.
He leaned closer, pressing a soft kiss to her cheek. “You’ve lost weight,” he murmured. “Take better care of yourself.”
“Well, I was worried Aidan wouldn’t wake up. Now that he’s awake, I feel much more at ease,” Alison replied.
Just then, Ethan ran over from a few steps away, grinning.
“Daddy, kiss Mommy more!”
Jack laughed. “Yes, sir!” he said, leaning in again—but Alison darted aside, laughing shyly.
Just then, the upstairs bodyguard called.
“Ma’am, Mr. Aidan is throwing a tantrum. He’s looking for you.”
After hanging up, Alison felt helpless.
She desperately wanted to stay with the children and Jack a little longer, but Aidan was urging her.
“Alison, go upstairs. Only when Aidan is okay can we truly be happy, right?” Jack comforted her.
Alison clasped his hand tightly.
Her heart brimmed with gratitude for his understanding.
“Sophia, Ethan, come here,” Jack called.
The two little ones ran to them.
“Daddy, are we going to see Godfather?”
Jack ruffled Ethan’s hair. “Ethan, you’re the big brother now—set a good example, okay? Godfather’s hurt and needs quiet, so we can’t disturb him.”
“But aren’t Sophia and I family?” Ethan asked, puzzled.
“Even so, it’s not possible. Godfather needs rest,” Jack coaxed.
“Next time we come, you can see your godfather.”
He added gently, “All right, go play. Don’t wander off. Daddy will talk to the doctor and be right back. Be good, okay?”
“Got it. Hurry back, Daddy. But remember to bring us to see Mommy tomorrow,” Sophia reminded him.
“Okay, deal.”
Then he handed them over to the assistant.
He took Alison’s hand and walked into the hospital.
Neither of them noticed the faint glint of a camera lens among the flower beds—a figure snapping photos in secret.
The moment they stepped out of the elevator, Alison released Jack’s hand, afraid it might alert Aidan.
“Alison, I’ll check on Aidan first, then go to the doctor’s office.”
Before they reached the door, a sharp crash echoed down the corridor—glass shattering somewhere inside.
“Jack, I’ll go check.”
“Aidan, what’s wrong?” Alison rushed inside, leaving Jack behind.
“A-Alison! Where did you go? I thought you’d disappeared. You scared me to death.”
Aidan exhaled deeply; his mood lifted the moment he saw her.
“I went for a walk. How did you wake up so quickly?” Alison asked.
“Aidan, I had a nightmare. In it, I couldn’t find you anywhere, and then I woke up,” Aidan explained.
“Stop overthinking it. That won’t happen. I’m always here. Look, who’s coming?” Alison shifted aside just as Jack pushed open the door.
Jack froze in the doorway, taking in the scene—Aidan’s gaze full of longing. So he really believes she’s his girlfriend…
Seeing Jack, Aidan froze for a moment before asking,
“Jack, why did you wait so long to come see me?”
“Oh, I did come. You were still unconscious then,” Jack replied, feigning nonchalance.
“I see. Sorry, Jack, how has my mom been these past few days?” Aidan asked.
