Chapter 235: Old Habits Die Hard
Aimée’s car pulled into the hospital driveway, followed by Cassandra’s taxi.
After Aimée parked, Cassandra rushed over, and the two began a heated conversation.
Meanwhile, Aidan was looking for a parking spot.
“Aidan, just park the car. I’ll go check on your mom, and you can look for a spot,” Alison urged.
“Okay,” Aidan replied.
Alison got out and ran toward the commotion, she found them locked in a tense tug-of-war.
“Let go! It’s none of your business!” Aimée shouted.
“Aimée, don’t abort the baby!” Cassandra pleaded.
“Haha! Aidan sure knows how to make a scene. He’s already told the whole world. Fine — I’ll just end everything right here, right now,” Aimée declared.
“Aimée, no! That’s my grandchild!” Cassandra cried out.
Aimée shook off her arm and strode toward the hospital lobby.
“Calm down, Aunt Cassandra. Aidan’s coming soon,” Alison said.
“Alison, don’t let Aimée go! Save my grandchild!” Cassandra pleaded.
“Aimée used my child to blackmail Jack. She wouldn’t keep the baby. Mom, wake up! If you want a grandchild, I’ll propose to Liana in a few days, okay?” Aidan pleaded.
Hearing his words, Cassandra calmed down, though her hands trembled.
“Aidan, let’s go inside and see what Aimée is up to,” she said.
“All right, let’s go inside.” He followed, uneasy; if Aimée truly meant to end the pregnancy, someone had to stop her.
Aidan supported his mother as they took the elevator to the obstetrics and gynecology department.
In the doctor’s office, the physician informed Aimée, “Miss Rolland, the operating rooms are fully booked today. Come on Friday.”
“No, I need it done now,” Aimée declared.
“Miss Rolland, please go to other hospitals,” the doctor replied.
“You…” Aimée started, but held back.
“I’m sorry. Next one,” the doctor cut her off coldly.
Cassandra approached Aimée and urged, “Friday is okay, Aimée. Come back well-rested, and it’ll be better for your health.”
“Get away!” Aimée pushed past Cassandra and Aidan, stopping in front of Alison. She glared at her.
“It’s all your fault. I hate you, Alison. I’ll make your life a living hell.”
Then she turned and walked away.
Alison shook her head.
She, Aidan, and Cassandra trailed behind—not out of pity, but because of the innocent life she carried.
“Aidan, take Mom home. Don’t let her run out again,” Alison said.
“What about you, Alison?” Aidan asked.
“Just leave me alone. I’ll call Jack later to pick me up.” Her voice was calm but forced, Alison deliberately mentioned Jack, hoping to dispel Aidan’s lingering feelings for her.
She wandered the streets, her mind in turmoil.
She picked up her phone and called Jack, but he didn’t answer.
Just then, a red convertible approached the crosswalk near her, then suddenly accelerated and barreled toward her.
“Ah…” Her breath caught; the world tilted.
Across the lane, Aidan’s car screeched to a stop the moment he saw the red blur.
When he looked back, he saw that the car had stopped.
Thankfully, the barrier between the road and the crosswalk prevented the red car from mounting the sidewalk.
A cold dread gripped him. What the hell is Aimée doing?
He jumped out of the car and ran toward her, shouting, “Alison, watch out! Get out of the way!”
However, his shouts were drowned out by the din of the traffic.
Aimée slammed her foot on the gas pedal. The car surged forward, hurtling straight toward Alison.
Casually leaning against a tree by the roadside, Alison could hear the ringing in her ears.
She silently pleaded, Jack, please pick up.
“Alison!” a voice cried out. “Get out of the way!”
She instinctively turned her head and saw Aimée’s red convertible hurtling toward her.
People scattered in all directions.
Amid the chaos, Alison realized that Aimée’s car was heading straight for her.
“Ah!” she screamed, trying to step back, but a tree blocked her path.
The red car kept charging forward.
The terror of that moment nearly suffocated her.
I don’t want to die. Jack and the children are waiting for me.
“Alison!”
Suddenly, a figure shot forward and shoved her aside.
Alison crashed heavily onto the crosswalk, and a deafening crash echoed behind her.
