Chapter 234: No More Holding Back
Alison decided to keep the secret — not out of fear, but to keep Aidan from being dragged into another storm.
She told Aimée coldly, “Leave. I will keep the secret. But remember, I’m not afraid of you, but for his sake. He is innocent. Stay away from Jack and me from now on. Otherwise, I won’t hold back.”
Aimée’s face turned ashen, her lips trembling before she turned sharply and fled down the corridor.
Isabella rushed forward, flustered, her voice rising.
Staring blankly, she shot Alison a fierce glare before striding after Aimée. “Aimée, what’s wrong with you? Don’t be afraid. I’ve got your back. I won’t let Alison bully my grandson!”
She blocked Aimée’s path.
Aimée shook off Isabella’s arm, her voice weary. “Isabella, I’m truly exhausted. Please let go. I cannot be the Winston family’s daughter-in-law. Only Alison is worthy. Haha! Hasn’t she already given you the grandchildren? Isn’t that what matters most to the Winstons?”
Then she walked away, her laughter echoing bitterly down the grand staircase.
“Alison, what on earth is going on? Why is Aimée giving up? Did you threaten her?” Isabella demanded.
“No comment. Please give me back Sophia and Ethan, Isabella,” Alison replied calmly.
“No, I won’t hand the children over until this is sorted out.” Isabella was furious and caught off guard by Aimée.
“This is illegal! You can’t just take my children!”
“Someone get this woman out of here. I never want to see her in the Winston family again,” Isabella ordered.
“No need. I’ll leave on my own. But next time, I will take Sophia and Ethan with me.”
When it came to her children, she would never compromise. Her heart pounded — had Aidan found the children yet?
As she descended the stairs, she found only Rock, sitting leisurely at the breakfast table, as if the chaos above didn’t exist.
“Rock, have you seen Aidan?” she asked.
“Yes, he went after Aunt Cassandra,” Rock replied.
“Where did Cassandra go?” Alison was puzzled.
“She broke free from her caregiver and ran off,” Rock said calmly, “Right as Aimée was leaving the hall.”
“Oh, thank you,” Alison said before rushing out. Her instincts screamed — this was connected to Aimée.
She ran swiftly, Please, don’t let anything happen…
When she reached the main gate, she asked the gatekeeper, “Have you seen Aidan or Cassandra?”
The gatekeeper pointed outside. “Look! That’s Mr. Aidan’s car. He went after Ms. Macdonald. As soon as Miss Rolland got out, she hailed a cab to chase after Miss Rolland.”
“Got it. Thank you,” Alison replied breathlessly.
She dashed out the front gate and hailed a cab.
Aimée’s car was leading the way, Cassandra’s cab sped behind it, with Aidan’s Volvo close on their tail.
Just as Aidan was about to catch up to Cassandra, he hit a red light.
Alison pulled a hundred-dollar bill from her pocket and said urgently, “Sir, please pull over. I have to get out.”
The driver hesitated. “Miss, this isn’t a good place to stop. Let me give you your change.”
Alison decided to dash to Aidan’s car during the red light, hoping to catch up to Cassandra. Ignoring the driver’s change, she quickly got out.
“Miss, your change!” the driver called from the cab.
“Keep it,” Alison called back without turning around. Her heels clacked against the pavement as she sprinted through the traffic. She strode straight to Aidan’s car, tapped on the window, and said, “Aidan, open the door!”
Aidan turned at the sound and was surprised. “Alison? Why are you here?”
“Someone said you came out to chase after Aunt Cassandra. I was worried, so I followed you.” She caught her breath as she slipped into the passenger seat beside him.
After the light turned green, Aidan started the car and said, “Alison, I’m sorry I haven’t found Sophia and Ethan yet. My mother…”
“Did Aunt Cassandra hear something?” Alison cut him off.
Aidan nodded. “Yes. She already knows the child in Aimée’s womb is mine. She’s obsessed with getting Aimée back. She wants a grandchild. But Aimée’s headed to City First Hospital now, and it looks like she’s going to… end the pregnancy.”
Traffic ahead blocked their path, preventing them from catching up to Cassandra’s taxi.
Aidan gripped the steering wheel hard, his knuckles whitening.
Please, Aimée, don’t do something you can’t undo…
