Chapter 208: Be Good from Now On
“How did you know? Who told you? Aimée?” Jack didn’t expect Alison to know all along.
“I went to the hospital,” Alison replied.
“But losing you would also tear me apart, Alison.”
“There’s only one mother.” She envied him for having a mother while she didn’t even know who hers was.
He gently tapped her nose, his tone tinged with reproach. “You silly girl. She is my biological mother. If I persist, she will stand by me. Next time, don’t leave without saying anything, okay?”
“Jack, I left you a note. Didn’t you see it?” She recalled the note she’d placed on top of the chicken soup thermos.
He shook his head. “No. Where did you put it?”
“Right on top of the thermos with the chicken soup.”
“Oh, you made the chicken soup for my mom that day?” He finally understood why the soup had tasted so good.
“Yeah, I made it.”
Jack clenched his fists, frustrated by Aimée’s lying. “Alison, I’m sorry I didn’t notice.”
If he had seen it, they wouldn’t have missed each other.
“You really didn’t see it?” she asked with a smile.
“Yes. Alison, why didn’t you tell me about Sophia’s disappearance? Why didn’t you call the police?” He felt a surge of anger, thinking she had been reckless.
“Jack, I was afraid the kidnappers would kill her. I needed to protect her.” She had thought it was a trap set by Aimée. Once she married Jack, everything would fall into place.
“Alison, if something like this happens again, tell me first. We should face it together.”
“But Jack, what about your mother?”
“I told you, I’ll handle Mom myself. Don’t ever use that as an excuse to leave me again. If you do, I’ll take Sophia and Ethan with me.”
“No, Jack, you wouldn’t do that, right?” The thought of him taking the children away sent her into a panic.
“Not sure, just listen to me.” He leaned down and kissed her. “You’ve been making me furious lately.” His expression hardened as he prepared to give her a stern lecture — to make her listen to him from now on.
“You look ugly now.”
“Why?”
“Like a bug.”
“Hey, I think I should teach you a lesson…” He raised his hand, wanting to tickle her.
“Fine, I’m wrong. Sorry, Jack.”
“Okay, you have to make it up to me. Look what you’ve done to me.” As he said this, he guided her hand toward his lower body.
She blushed. “Do you want to take me right here?”
He reached out, pulled her back from the edge of the bed, and held her tight.
He lifted her hands above her head, replying, “Yes, right now.”
She laughed helplessly.
He pinned her legs down. While she was unable to resist, his lips pressed against hers.
“Mmm… Wait…” She tried to speak, but her lips were claimed by his.
“Later,” he murmured, deepening the kiss until his words became slurred.
“Jack, back then…” She persisted.
Could the mastermind behind all this be connected to Jack’s father? She wanted to tell Jack they should uncover the truth together.
“Be good…” He was consumed by desire.
To dodge his kiss, she bit his lips.
Though not hard, it stung enough for him to pull away. “You’re playing with fire,” he murmured. “Bite me later. What did you want to say?”
His arched brow made her lower her head.
“Jack, when I went to the apartment back then, it was because of unavoidable circumstances.”
“I know.” He had long suspected the truth but had never asked out of respect. “And now, you decide to tell me?”
Alison nodded. “Yes, I’m going to tell you everything.”
His bright eyes fixed on her. He was determined to uncover the truth about that year, and her story was a crucial clue.
Instead of pressing her, he just pulled her close, smoothing her hair. “Alison, if it’s too hard to talk about, just keep it inside. It’s okay.”
His words made her panic, and she blurted out, “Jack, that time, I was drugged. The photos were taken without my knowledge. To stop them from being leaked, I agreed to go to your apartment with that person.”
Then, she buried her face in his chest.
“Who was that person?” He asked, though a tight smile tugged at his lips.
Her head remained buried in his embrace as she shook it. “He contacted me via email. He sent me the photos and orders.”
