Chapter 198: No Longer Connected (Part 2)
Aimée nudged Jack. “Jack, go toast to my mom.”
“Okay,” he said, his mind blank – he clearly hadn’t recovered from Alison’s slap.
“Cheers,” he said flatly.
Just as Aimée’s mother was about to lose her temper, Aimée smiled and hugged her. “Mom, don’t blame Jack. He’s feeling unwell. Please don’t be upset with him.”
Aimée’s mother held her tongue and took the drink.
At that moment, a man next to her said, “No, you have to take a penalty drink. How can you be so impolite? Jack.”
“Absolutely! That’s right!” Then, someone gave Jack a big cup of wine.
Aimée took the cup, smiling. “A glass this big? Are you trying to get him drunk?”
“Haha, Aimée, are you worried he might be too drunk to spend the wedding night with you?”
“No, please stop saying that.” Aimée blushed.
“Well then, he’d better drink it! Hurry up!” The whole table started cheering.
Aimée held the glass, wanting Daniel to finish it, but he was gone. With no other choice, she gave the drink to Alison. “I can’t handle drinking now, how about my bridesmaid drink it for me?”
Alison grabbed the glass helplessly.
She watched the liquid inside, ripples spreading out like her own restless thoughts.
Do I need to drink it?
She really wanted to pour it out, but gazes held her back.
She hesitated; her fragility seemed to be ignored.
“Drink up! This is for the groom, Miss Fairchild! Drink it all!” Someone nearby teased her.
Alison trembled, afraid she might forget to find Sophia and Ethan after drinking. She looked up to meet Jack’s eyes.
He looked at her indifferently.
She lifted the glass, closed her eyes, and drank deep, letting the liquid slide into her stomach.
The burning feeling was strong – it was vodka.
Alison started to sway slightly.
The crowd began asking, “Alison, you won the bet, right? What exactly did you win?”
What bet? That was an excuse Aimée made up.
Aimée took charge. “Hey, why are you so interested in my bridesmaid? It was just a little bet—do you need to go to such extremes?”
“Yes, we need to know. What was the bet?”
“Don’t tell them, Alison. They’re just joking.” Aimée tried to make things better.
“No, we’re not joking. Is it that the winner gets to be the next bride?”
That was a good idea. Aimée quickly asked, “How did you know that?”
“I figured it out. It looks like I’m right.” The man smiled at Aimée, then turned to Alison. “Miss Fairchild, I think you owe us another round. Let’s celebrate you being the next bride early.”
“What about the next groom? Where is he?” Someone was searching for Aidan.
“Aidan’s entertaining my brother,” Aimée replied.
“Fine. Miss Fairchild must drink this second glass to celebrate.” The group’s attention turned to Alison.
Half the people there were Aimée’s loyal supporters. She just let them trick Alison, hoping Alison would get drunk after toasting everyone.
Another glass was placed in Alison’s hand.
Alison watched the liquid. She felt a chill run down her spine.
After just one glass, her body was already getting hot. She was afraid that another drink would make her pass out, so she looked to Aimée for help.
Aimée shrugged.
Alison had to endure it all.
No one cared how much she drank, including Jack.
