Chapter 197: No Longer Connected (Part 1)
Jack didn’t say anything, moving as if he were a walking corpse, going through the motions of the wedding.
Aimée gave the officiant a subtle nod, and he approached her.
She commanded, “Turn off the power right now. Serve the meal first, then resume the ceremony later.”
The officiant nodded, turning the planned blackout into a special part of the wedding.
After signaling the lights to dim, he smiled and said, “Ladies and gentlemen, don’t you think it even romantic now?”
The crowd started cheering, saying, “Yes, romantic!”
“Excellent. Then next, let’s light candles on the tables and raise a toast to the bride and groom—wishing them happiness. Now, we’ll start the toast early to thank all our family and friends for joining us. Enjoy the beauty of love in this romantic candlelight.”
Aimée was thrilled and decided to reward this savior after the ceremony.
The ceremony suddenly stopped and transitioned into the toasting segment halfway through.
Aimée pulled Jack toward the steps. “Jack, let’s go toast first. We’ll return later to finish the ceremony.”
She walked quickly, guiding Jack toward Alison.
Jack was mine, Aimée thought.
Alison stopped when she saw Aimée coming, waiting for her to come close.
“Alison, you’re just in time. We’re about to start the toast. You and Daniel should join us.”
Daniel was Jack’s best man, and Aimée had carefully planned it.
Now Jack had agreed to marry her—a huge step forward. If everything went smoothly, she would finally become Jack’s wife.
Alison took a step forward and whispered to Aimée, “Where is Ethan? Did you take him away?”
Aimée froze. Noticing Ethan wasn’t here, she understood why Alison was so upset.
She smiled lightly and asked Alison, “Miss Fairchild, where is your son? Has he gone missing?”
“Yes, we have no idea where he went. We’ve looked everywhere but can’t find him,” Aidan said, sounding worried next to Alison.
Jack ignored it, still silent.
What did Ethan’s disappearance have to do with me? He’s Aidan’s son, not mine.
Aimée ordered, “Go find Ethan everywhere. Leave no corner untouched.”
The hotel staff started looking for Ethan right away.
Aimée turned to Alison and whispered, “I didn’t take Ethan. He probably wandered off while he was flying his kite. If you don’t believe me, just wait a little while. The hotel staff will find him soon. Before that happens, I expect you to do as I said. Otherwise, we both can’t afford to lose in this wedding.”
Alison became grave, understanding what Aimée meant.
She didn’t think Ethan’s disappearance was related to Aimée.
The waiter brought the drinks.
“Alison, if you can’t drink, don’t force yourself,” Aidan said, worried.
“Aidan, please help me entertain the guests properly. With so many people, I’m afraid I might miss someone,” Aimée said to Aidan with a smile.
“Okay,” Aidan agreed.
He moved away.
Seeing Alison following Aimée with a pale face, his heart ached.
As he passed Daniel, he patted his shoulder. “Look after Alison for me.”
“Of course. But I have one condition,” Daniel said, looking at Alison and then at Aidan.
“What condition?” Aidan asked.
“When are you two going to marry?”
“Ha, we haven’t picked a date yet. No rush.”
“How can you not be in a hurry? The child is already so big. You can’t let him be a jerk bastard forever.”
Aidan blushed. “Daniel, stop talking nonsense.”
“Haha! Fine, I’ll stop. But when you two get married, I’m your best man. Don’t worry about the wedding gift—I will give you blessings. They’re the most precious gift of all.”
Aidan hurriedly pushed Daniel away to help Alison, who had already left with Aimée. “You sly fox. Go on now.”
Jack had heard Aidan’s words – Sophia and Ethan were both Aidan’s kids.
