Chapter 162: My Dear Wife (Part 2)
Jack gently stroked Alison’s short hair, tucking it behind her ear with tenderness. “I’ll stay with you for a little while. Once you’re asleep, I’ll leave.”
“Really?” she asked.
“Yes.” His voice brimmed with affection. These past days, he’d been uneasy, afraid she might disappear at any moment. Only holding her close in his arms could ease him.
“Then I’ll sleep,” she said, thinking he could leave sooner.
“Sleep well, honey,” he coaxed, gently patting her back.
Lately, he was troubled by Aimée. She stubbornly refused to break off the engagement, even threatening to jump from a building.
He didn’t know if she knew about Alison and him, afraid exposure would harm Alison.
That was why he’d always been so cautious whenever he visited. But secrets never stay hidden forever. He was not sure how long he could keep it from her.
Sometimes, he truly wanted to take Alison and flee far away. He was rich enough to provide them with a good life. Yet, Kelton Properties was the empire he had built himself — something he couldn’t give up easily.
His fingers slid across her cheek, pulling her closer, his arms tightening around her waist.
He pleaded silently, Alison, just give me a few more days, I will sort everything out.
He would cherish her; regaining this love was no easy feat.
Watching her eyelashes flutter lightly, he knew she hadn’t fallen asleep yet.
“Alison, let’s talk for a while.”
“If we talk, you won’t be able to leave.”
“Tonight, I won’t leave. Okay?”
“…” She blushed.
He smiled. That meant she agreed.
“Alison, let’s move in a few days.”
“Huh?” She was puzzled.
Hadn’t they agreed not to move into the apartment? She always felt uneasy about it — too many people knew the apartment.
He picked up his wallet from the bed, opened it, and found two keys. “Alison, these are for you.”
“What?”
“No one knows about that house. There’s even a gated kindergarten in the complex. It’d be perfect for you. Alison, let’s move in tomorrow.” Over the past few days, he’d already been handling the property transfer. Working in real estate, he had access to countless homes. All these years, he’d never considered moving to a new place, always staying in apartments, waiting for her.
“Jack, I’m perfectly fine living here.” She didn’t want to move. She still owed him twelve million dollars. She’d pay him back eventually.
She planned to open a chain of flower shops in City S. By then, with a bigger business, repaying the debt would be easier.
He smiled warmly. “Don’t worry about the rent. Just help me out with some work, and that’ll cover it. Alison, my stomach’s sensitive, I just love the meals you cook.”
Blushing, she quickly added, “But I like working.”
“Then keep working. Just cook occasionally.”
She took the keys from his hand, then pushed them back into his wallet. “Keep them for now. Let me think it over.”
“Fine, but don’t take too long. I’ll give you a week.”
The two chatted on; they seemed to have endless things to say.
