Chapter 147: Nothing Is Foolproof (Part 1)

Chapter 147 No Wall is Impervious to Wind (Part 1)

The two of them hugged tightly, completely ignoring the surprised looks from the people around them. They didn't care at all.

He had wanted to ask her why she had come into his life all those years ago, but every time he tried, she skillfully changed the subject, and soon enough, he would forget.

That question wasn't really important anyway.

What mattered was that they were together now.

It felt so good to be happy, to feel love. It was so much better than hate.

"Mom, how long are you gonna hug? We've been off the bumper cars for a while now. Ethan told me not to bother you, but I'm really hungry, Mom," Sophi said softly, standing in front of the two adults, a bit embarrassed to interrupt them.

"Oh..." Alison quickly stood up and looked at the sky, realizing it was already past lunchtime. She had been so overwhelmed with happiness that she forgot everything else.

"Sophi, why didn't you say something earlier?" she asked apologetically, feeling she had been neglectful.

"I did, but Ethan told me not to," Sophi replied.

Alison looked over at Ethan, who was watching her from a distance.

"Sophi, go get your brother. Let's all go eat."

"Is Dad coming too?" Sophi asked eagerly. Despite feeling a bit jealous that Dad was taking up Mom's attention, she was still very happy. Having Dad around felt great, and this time it was for real.

"Yes, we're all going together," Jack said as he stood up, brushing the dust off his clothes and smiling warmly at Sophi.

"Yay, Dad, you're the best!" Sophi hugged his leg, her little hands dirty as she tried to climb up. Alison thought Jack would be annoyed, but he wasn't. Instead, he enthusiastically picked Sophi up and said with a smile, "We need to wash our hands before eating, or we'll get a tummy ache."

"I know, Mom always makes us wash our hands before eating. Dad, let's go, I'm hungry," Sophi said, waving to Ethan. "Ethan, let's go eat!"

Ethan happily ran over and followed Jack to the parking lot.

Jack opened the door of his Lamborghini, letting Sophi climb in, and Ethan excitedly jumped into the car as well. "Dad, your car is so cool!"

"Well, you'll get to ride in it every day from now on," Jack said with a smile, not missing a beat.

"Really?" Sophi asked.

"Of course," he replied, still smiling.

Alison sat between the two kids, listening to their conversation, feeling particularly content. She never imagined Jack would get along so well with the kids; it was beyond her expectations.

"Dad, do you have a lot of girlfriends?" Sophi asked casually, leaning back in her seat.

"Why do you ask that?" Jack inquired.

"Because I saw the lady you said you were going to do a wedding photoshoot with the other day, and another pretty lady at the ice cream shop," Sophi explained.

"Before? You've seen me before?" Jack asked, driving and trying to recall, a bit incredulous.

"Yeah, once when we went to get ice cream..." Sophi began.

"Sophi, don't say that," Alison quickly interrupted, remembering the day Jack had scared her, still feeling a bit shaken.

"Alison, let Sophi speak. I want to know what else I don't know," Jack said.

Alison sighed, realizing there was no way to keep secrets forever. It was better to come clean herself. "That was a long time ago. I took them to get ice cream, and we ran into you with another... girl."

Thinking about it, she couldn't help but feel a bit resentful towards Jack. He was such a flirt.

It seemed so unfair. She looked at Jack's back and sighed inwardly. Maybe she should give him a taste of his own medicine for once, considering how he always tormented her.

Jack tried to recall, searching his memory for any possible encounters with Sophi, Ethan, and Alison. Suddenly, he remembered. It was Cassandra. But Cassandra had long since disappeared from his life, and he hadn't seen her in ages.

That time, he had a fleeting sense of familiarity when he saw Alison's back. But he never imagined she had already given birth to his two children.

As he drove, he looked for a suitable restaurant. This was his first time taking the kids out for a meal, and he wanted to make sure it was a good one.

"Ethan, Sophi, what do you want to eat?"

"Dad, Mom says picky eaters aren't good kids, so we're fine with anything," Sophi answered sweetly.

He chuckled. These two little ones were so well-taught by Alison, smart and adorable.

"Sophi, there are a lot of special foods around here. Dad can't decide. Should we have regular food or seafood?"

"Seafood! I want seafood!" Ethan immediately chimed in. He loved seafood, but Mom had only taken them once and only ordered a crab and some shrimp. He still felt unsatisfied.

"Alright, seafood it is. Alison, what do you think?"

She wanted to remind him not to spoil the kids, as they could easily get spoiled. But seeing their excited faces, she couldn't bring herself to say anything. She just smiled slightly. "Whatever, as long as I'm with you, it doesn't matter what we eat."

"Great, seafood it is!" The car sped towards their destination, with Sophi and Ethan happily chatting and looking out the window. Listening to their innocent chatter, Jack found it not only refreshing but also particularly amusing.

It seemed like this was the first time he truly felt what it was like to be a father, even though he was already the dad of two four-year-olds.

The car soon arrived at the most famous seafood restaurant in the city. Jack parked the car, holding Ethan's hand, while Alison held Sophi's. The four of them walked into the restaurant together. Inside, there were all kinds of fish and seafood. "Ethan, you can order."

"Okay!" The little guy wasn't scared at all, pointing at various seafood as they walked. Jack watched him with a wide smile, not stopping him, letting him order whatever he wanted. He was practically spoiling Ethan to the heavens.
