Chapter 131 Who Was It Given To
Aimée broke the silence with a smile, giving Alison a chance to finally breathe. "Aidan, we've been here for a while. The guard said you weren't home, so we took a stroll in the garden. As soon as we heard your car, Jack and I came back to see you and Alison."
Alison glanced at Jack from the corner of her eye, relieved he wasn't looking at her. She wasn't sure if he noticed her glance, but his face remained dark, as if someone owed him a lot of money.
Well, she did owe him money—$1.2 million.
She sighed inwardly, feeling like she was in a hopeless situation.
Aidan, surprised, asked, "Why didn't you call first? I'm sorry you had to wait." He hadn't expected Jack and Aimée to show up.
Aimée explained, "We were going to your office, but we called Aunt Stephanie on the way. She said she had just been there and your secretary told her you were home. So, we decided to come here instead."
What a coincidence, Alison thought, feeling the awkwardness of the situation. She and Jack meeting again like this was the last thing she wanted.
Aidan had a hunch about what was going on but wanted to hear it from them. "Do you two have some big news for me? Jack never comes to see me on his own. Come on, don't keep me waiting."
Aimée tugged on Jack's sleeve affectionately. "Jack, you tell him." She opened her purse and quickly pulled out two red invitations with gold lettering.
No need to guess—they were wedding invitations. Even from a few steps away, Alison could see the large letters.
She lowered her head further, feeling as if a knife had been plunged into her heart. The pain was almost unbearable.
Aimée, smiling happily, handed the invitations to Jack. "Jack, here you go. You tell him." She wanted to show Alison how happy she was and wouldn't let Alison ruin her upcoming happiness.
Despite her deep hatred for Alison—hating her for taking her first time, and for having a face identical to Emily's—Aimée maintained her composure.
Jack took the invitations without expression, glanced at them briefly, and handed one to Aidan. "Bro, this is our wedding invitation. You have to come."
Aidan stood up, taking the invitation with one hand and giving Jack a hearty slap on the shoulder with the other. "You rascal, getting married before your older brother. You owe me three drinks at the wedding!"
"Aidan, don't blame Jack. It was my idea because..." Aimée touched her stomach, her face full of tenderness, as if she already loved her child dearly. "Aidan, why don't you find a suitable girl and get married with us?" She joked, trying to lighten the mood.
Aidan smiled and gave Alison a meaningful look. "I'd love to, but I need the right girl to say yes first."
Why did everyone put her in such difficult situations? She didn't want this at all.
Aidan didn't mention her name directly, and she didn't know how to respond. She sat quietly, hoping the conversation would end soon. The atmosphere felt suffocating, like a courtroom.
She sat there silently, like a puppet. Thankfully, Aidan thought she was unwell and didn't question her.
She heard Aidan's envious tone and his words of blessing, feeling a mix of emotions.
Jack was getting married.
Alison repeated the news in her mind. He was getting married, and the bride wasn't her—it was Aimée.
She forced a bitter smile. How could she and Jack ever be together? It was impossible.
She had no prestigious family background, and his mother didn't like her. Plus, she had a face identical to Emily's.
This face had caused her so much trouble.
Her dress hem was already wrinkled from her twisting it, but she kept twisting, trying to vent her frustration.
"Alison, are you feeling okay?"
Jack's sudden question caught her off guard. They had been discussing his wedding, and now he was asking about her.
Alison instinctively looked up, meeting his gaze again. She didn't want to avoid it; she had to face it. Besides, she had a clear conscience. The only "fault" was having a face identical to Emily's.
She responded softly, trying not to show her discomfort to Aidan and Aimée. "Oh, it's nothing. Just a little under the weather. A few days' rest should do."
"That's good. You should come to my wedding, Alison. Aimée, how about asking Alison to be your bridesmaid?" Jack suggested with a smile, turning to Aimée. "You don't have many close friends here."
Aimée hesitated briefly but quickly agreed. "Sure, but what about the best man? How about Aidan?"
"No way. He's my brother. He needs to help with the guests and keep things in order. If he's the best man, he'll just drink all night." Jack refused without hesitation, surprising Alison. Was he hinting that she shouldn't be with Aidan?
She bit her lip, saying nothing, just staring at Jack. She wasn't afraid of him because she had a clear conscience.
Aidan, focused on the invitation, didn't notice the tension between Jack and Alison. He said, "Jack, if you need help with the wedding preparations, just let me know. I can help out."
"Thanks, bro. I'll let you know." Jack glanced at Alison again, then stood up. "Aimée, we've delivered the invitations. Let's not bother Aidan and Alison anymore. You still need to pick out your dress."
Jack's abruptness made Aimée uncomfortable. "Jack, let's stay a bit longer."
"You stay. I'm leaving." Jack said, shaking off Aimée's arm and heading for the door.
"Jack..." Aimée called after him, then turned to Aidan with a forced smile. "Aidan, we'll be going now. You and Alison must come to the wedding."
"We will. Jack's just impatient. Be patient with him." Aidan reassured Aimée, though he didn't understand Jack's sudden mood swing.
"Okay, Aidan. Goodbye." Jack stormed out of the house. He didn't dislike the kids—they were his brother's, after all—but he suddenly didn't want to see them.
No wonder Alison wasn't a virgin that night. She had been with his brother all along.
And she had given him two children.
Anyone could see how much those kids resembled his brother.
Alison was a manipulator, playing both brothers. They must have had a fight recently, which was why his brother went to San Francisco. But she managed to win him back as soon as he returned.
And what about him?
How could she toy with both brothers like this?
Thinking about her body made him feel sick.
He wanted to tell his brother all this, but seeing his brother so happy, he couldn't bring himself to do it.
That $1.2 million wasn't for saving her child. Her child was fine.
So, who did she give it to?
